Simrad SL35 Searchlight sonar for purse seiners and trawlers
The Simrad SL35 Hull Sonar series is a short range mechanical scanning sonar designed for small and medium sized purse seiners and trawlers. The system provides real time images from the
sonar dome to the bridge, thus maximizing the best possible presentation on a high-resolution color monitor. The SL35 Sonar allows the operator to monitor
the complete operation, by displaying individual fish school target locations in the horizontal plane. In addition the SL35 Sonar provides a Vertical Fan mode, specially made for trawling, where
a complete overview of the horizontal and verticalplane is presented. The sonar beam can be horizontally trained 360
degrees or 180 degrees in the vertical plane. The automatic search features with full -90° tilt
capability ensures maximum control during the towand/or pursing. The active motion compensation for pitch and roll and the audio speaker are optional. The SL35 Sonar is a modular system. It is ope-
rated with ease through a direct access control panel with an integrated roller ball.
The SL35 sonar dome
The SL35 can operate in the horizontal mode and quickly be retrained in the vertical mode with a single button press.
A flexible choice for a large range ofuser applications, with 6 different displaymodes and 4 customized user modes, providing the operator with the bestoverview for the type of fishing.
When the optional beam stabilizer is activated, both the horizontal and vertical beamswill be electronically stabilized for roll and pitch movements up to ±20°. The full circle beamwill then stay on the target inde-pendent of the vessel movement. This secures opti-mal contact with the target even in rough seas.
The horizontal beam covers360° around the vessel andcan be tilted from +10° up to -90° down. When tilting, the total beam picture can be compared with folding anumbrella, which means thatall beams in 360° around the vessel have the same tilt angle.
The vertical beam covers a 180° vertical slice underthe vessel. This is useful for visualizing the verticaldistribution of the school offish. The vertical beam canbe trained to any bearingaround the vessel.
The horizontal and verticalbeams gives an optimal visua-lizing of the catch situation. This is because the school offish can be seen from aboveand from the side. In thatway, it is not necessary to go over the target to see thevertical distribution on theechosounder.
The SL30 catch sonar dome The advantage of the SL30 for purse
seining is that the dome does not need to be retracted during the catch phase. This provides a complete picture of the net and catch during this critical phase. The high frequency sonar signal gives an accurate picture of the purse seine.
The SL30 sonardome protrudes only 15 cm from the ship´s hull.
The hull unit sonardome is lowered 250 mm or 400mm below the ship´shull and is availablein two frequencies,90kHz and 160kHz.

Options:• Roll & Pitch stabilization• Audio speaker
Vital information is displayed in the lower part of the menu, shut as: Lat, Lon,Heading and the Vessel speed. When the stabilization is activated, the pitch and Roll ia also displayed. (See front page image).
The lower and raise buttons controlsthe angle of the transducer.
Power on/off buttons.
Automatic and manual search buttons.
Display mode buttons are used to set the format of the display.
Event and lat/long. allowsyou to mark the target.
Cursor buttons.
Roller ball for easyand fast positioning.
The sector train control buttons are used to control the direction andwidth of the sector.
By positioning the mouse cursor on the selected “+” or“-” buttons, the operator canselect the mode of operation.
In addition to the main“Operating, Setup and UserPanel, the operator with a single click of the mouseselect the “Display” panel.
The sonar image displayed in the “Strata” mode, providein real time the horizontalsonar image and in the lower window, the depth and position of the targetwithin the water column.
