About Stainless Steel

The corrosion resistance of Dolphin

stainless steel (type 304) washroom

dispensers stems from an extremely thin but

tenacious and self-repairing passive film,

which forms on the surface of the stainless

steel. This imparts the properties of stain

resistance, nontainting of food, hygiene

cleanability and aesthetic appearance which

makes stainless steel the ideal choice for

many high-class articles, including Dolphin

Dispensers in washroom environments.

Further, it does not chip, flake, craze, crack

or break.

Stainless steel will be unaffected by normal

conditions of everyday use. Routine simple

gentle cleaning will reward the owner with a

product, which retains its properties and

appearance throughout years of constant

daily usage. All grades of stainless steel will

stain and discolour due to surface deposits,

therefore they will never be completely

maintenance free.

Because of stainless steel’s reputation for

durability, Dolphin washroom dispensers are

sometimes assumed to be indestructible,

and therefore subjected to misuse or even

abuse. Care should be taken to avoid such

‘abnormal’ use.

A frequent cause of staining and micro

pitting of stainless steel is splashing with

undiluted bleach solutions and mortar

cleaners.

Initial Cleaning

• Initial cleaning after installation should be

done as soon as possible to remove any

dust, dirt and grime that may have settled

on the surface of the stainless steel during

installation or by other surrounding

building works.

• The plastic covering on any new stainless

steel surface will prevent natural self

passivation. This will only commence once

the plastic is removed. Any adhesive

residues and substances present in the

environment (e.g. glue, grime or salts)

which settle on the surface, will impede

and impair the self-passivation.

• Clean the surface to remove any adhesive

residues using Inox Clean (see cleaning

procedure below).

• Frequently clean the surface during the

initial weeks of exposure to keep it free of

settled substances. This also stimulates the

formation of the passive film.

CARE MAINTENANCE AND CLEANING

OF DOLPHIN AND DOLPHIN PRESTIGE

STAINLESS STEEL WASHROOM PRODUCTS

1. Filling the Dispenser

• This dispenser is only designed for PH

neutral liquid soaps.

Avoid filling very thick liquids.

Use of any other type of soap or liquid is

not covered by our warranty.

• When filling with liquid soap, be sure to

wipe off liquid spilled on to the container.

Never overfill.

2. Cleaning & Maintaining the Dispenser

• If the dispenser is not used for a long

period of time and becomes clogged, pour

ONLY warm water into the dispenser and

gently pump it to clear the blockage.

NEVER try inserting a sharp object e.g. pin

into the soap nozzle, which could

irreparably damage the pump and void

the warranty.

• ONLY clean inside the dispenser with

warm water, NEVER use solvents or

aggressive household cleaners like bleach,

acids (e.g. descalers) or ammoniabased

bathroom cleaner.

• To clean the outside of the dispenser, use

warm soapy water or approved stainless

steel cleaners (see Dolphin Dispensers –

Cleaning and Maintenance of Stainless

• Should brown deposits, that appear to be

rust or corrosion, appear around the lid or

pump, remove them with a brush or pan

cleaning pad and soapy water (never use

an abrasive cleaner with a polished finish

and only in the direction of the ‘grain’ with

a brushed finish) - see above link for

further information.

• IT SHOULD BE NOTED that whilst the

aforementioned deposit may appear like

rust or corrosion this is very rarely the

case; a good clean will usually reveal an

un-corroded dispenser. The brown is

usually a result of soap left on the stainless

steel surface too long although changing

to a milder liquid soap with a neutral PH

can reduce the affects.

FILLING, CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE

OF STAINLESS STEEL SOAP DISPENSERS

Introduction

Dolphin Powder Coatings are organic

coatings which need to be cleaned and

maintained regularly to ensure that the

decorative and protective properties of the

coating are retained.

Method

Usual maintenance of powder coating

products can be done with an appropriate

cleaning product, followed by clear water

rinsing and wiping using a soft cloth.

All surfaces should be cleaned using a soft

cloth or sponge, using nothing harsher than

natural bristle brushes.

If the project is subject to any hazardous

unusual environmental factors, or is close to

salt water, an estuary or marine

environments then Dolphin must be

consulted on an individual project basis.

If the coating is very heavily soiled (i.e. due

to lack of maintenance), then the

recommendation is to consult a specialised

company.

Cleaning Products

Before cleaning the cleaning agent’s

datasheet must be consulted.

Usual maintenance can be done using water

with mild detergent (pH 5 to 8).

If the atmospheric pollution has resulted in

heavy soiling of the coating, some stains or

marks may require stronger domestic

products such as products based of alcohol,

petroleum spirits, white spirit, or bleach

(diluted to 5%). In this case, it is necessary

to rinse the coating immediately after the

cleaning product has been used.

In no circumstance should any abrasive

cleaner or polish, or any cleaner containing

ketones or esters be used.

Frequency

The frequency of cleaning depends in part

on the standard of appearance that is

required and also the requirements to

remove deposits, which could, during

prolonged contact with either the powder

film or the metal substrate, (if exposed)

cause damage.
