Skype started off as "Sky peer-to-peer“, was then shortened
to Skyper, and then finally to Skype when the domain name
for Skyper was already taken
The founders sold Skype to eBay in 2005 for $3.1 billion
In the fourth quarter of 2005 Skype had 74.7 million users, in the third quarter of 2009 that number increased to 521 million users
