WelcomeWelcome to the introductory module options for the Skills for Success Programme.

Forth Valley College and Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise are working in partnership to secure funding in order that future courses can be delivered free of charge or at minimum cost. The January to March introductory modules can either be covered in full using Individual Learning Accounts or by accessing 50% match funding via Flexible Training Opportunities.

These options provide Leadership, Enterprise and Competency based training. The courses provide training opportunities for both paid staff and volunteers. For an excellent learner experience places are limited, so it is strongly recommended you complete and return your booking form as soon as possible.

Third sector organisations want toprovide high quality, accessible andappropriate services to their clientsand communities. The skills of theirworkforce – both paid staff andvolunteers, are a critical componentof ensuring success; so, access toappropriate development opportunitiesneeds to be a priority.

We hope that the Skills for SuccessProgramme will help organisations:

y Develop Leaders for success in Stirling’s Third Sector

y Build new skills and competencies to improve organisational performance

y Ensure greater financial security by building independent income

y Transform existing services to meet new opportunities in the third sector

y Increase effective partnership working and consortium building

This programme has been developedthrough a collaboration of partnershipworking by Stirling Community PlanningPartnership, Stirlingshire VoluntaryEnterprise, Social Enterprise Academyand Forth Valley College.

How will I learn?

Fundamental to the success of the Skillsfor Success Programme, is ensuringthe training will be tailored to suit the working environment of differentorganisations. The proposed trainingplan will have different modes of delivery,both classroom and online, with differentdates and times to suit. Training will betailor-made for Stirling’s Third Sectorand delivered by different trainingproviders such as Forth Valley College (FVC), Social Enterprise Academy (SEA), Community Enterprise in Scotland (CEIS), and Stirling University with many of the courses co-delivered by staff fromStirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise (SVE).

Support, Advice & Information

The Skills for Success in the Third Sector Team are available to provide on-going guidance on course options and progression routes. Stirlingshire Voluntary Enterprise work alongside the team to offer specialist support, advice and information on matters relating to the development of Stirlingshire’s Third Sector.

Flexible Training Opportunities

Flexible Training Opportunities gives:

y Scottish businesses with up to 150 employees the opportunity to apply for up to £5,000 towards employee training costs.

y Enhancing employees’ skills will bring real benefits to your business including improved productivity and a stronger more confident workforce.

y Funding is available for up to 10 employees per business and the money is not a loan so there’s no need to pay it back. SDS will refund up to 50% of each episode of employee training up to a maximum of £500 for each employee.

y ILA 200 If you are 16 or over and earn £22,000 a year or less, you can apply for an individual learning account that will give you £200 a year towards a wide range of courses. Finance for non Finance managers

Finance for Non Finance Managers will help staff understand finance and key finance based concepts, how operationalmatters and everyday decisions have an impact on finances and vice versa. This course will demystify how transactions and activities are reported in financial statements and accounts for non-finance people.

This will be most beneficial for those with little or no previous financial experience who need to understand and interpret financial information in Third Sector organisations.

This course aims to provide you with an introduction to the concepts of a systematic approach to training. Organisations will benefit by having trainers who can effectively deliver and evaluate training.

This is an intensive course ideal for individuals who train volunteers and employees

First Aid Appointed person

This is the minimum level of first aid training for the workplace, appropriate for low risk environments or for those acting in the absence of a fully qualified first aider.

progression:The certificate awarded will be valid for three years, after which candidates may renew their qualification by undertaking the two day ‘First Aid at Work Refresher’ course.

Flexible & On-line learning Options

Flexible and online learning is all about studying at your own pace and at a time and location which suits your needs. Forth Valley College Learning Centres at the Stirling, Alloa and Falkirk Campus offer state of the art learning facilities.

The centres are well equipped with computers but learning can be undertaken from home, work or in many flexible ways, by using videos and workbooks as well as computers.

Flexible & Online learning Support

If you are new to the flexible and online learning experience and find yourself studying on your own, then you may need particular help and advice both before and during your course. There are therefore a number of individuals available who can provide you with comprehensive guidance and support. Using online learner support software they will be able to create a learning plan appropriate to your needs and monitor your progress on courses you have enrolled on.

This course is aimed at staff and volunteers and provides you with an introduction to the concepts of equality and diversity and explains the relevance and benefits of this. Equality and Diversity are put into context through an exploration of the legislation. There are good guidelines on behaviour and breaking down barriers. A quiz at the end tests your knowledge and understanding and you will receive a course completion certificate.
