Skill Development and MSME’s
To promote skill development in MSME, the office of DC (MSME) conducts a large number
of vocational and entrepreneurship development programmes. The Entrepreneurship
Development Programmes (EDPs) are conducted through MSME-DIs, with focus on
entrepreneurial skills development coupled with specific skills relating to trades like
electronics, electrical, food processing, etc, which enables the trainees to start their own
ventures. The programme includes the following:-
1. Entrepreneurship Development Programme:
These programmes are organized regularly with the objective of nurturing the talent of youth
while introducing them to various aspects of industrial activity required for setting up
MSME’s. These training programmes are usually conducted by ITIs or other technical
institutions. They coach the participants on following matters:
Information on product and process design;
Manufacturing practices;
Testing and Quality Control;
Selection and usage of appropriate machinery;
Project profile preparation;
Marketing avenues;
Service Pricing;
Export opportunities;
Available Infrastructure facilities;
Financial facilities and financial institutes etc.

2. Entrepreneurial Skill Development Programme:
This programme is comprehensive training programmes which are organized specifically
with the objective of upgrading the skills of prospective entrepreneurs, existing workforce.
This also aims to improvise the technical skills of workers and technicians of MSME’s by
organizing various technical cum skill development training programmes. This training
programme aims as follows:
To provide training for skill up-gradation;
To equip them with better and improved technological skills of production;
To specifically tailor programmes for the skill development of socially disadvantaged
groups like OBC, SC, ST, Minorities and Women.
3. Management Development Programmes
Management Development programmes (MDPs) are conducted with the objective of
imparting training on the management practice system. This aims at improving the decision
making capabilities of existing and potential entrepreneurs resulting in higher productivity
and profitability. Highlights of the training are as follows:
They are short duration program;
Designed on the rule of need;
They can be easily customized.
4. Industrial Motivation Campaigns
Industrial Motivation Campaigns usually of 1 or 2 days are organized to identify and
motivate traditional as well as non-traditional entrepreneurs having potential for setting up
MSME’s. This specifies the object of creating self-employment.
5. Vocational and Educational Training
The Ministry conducts the session of these training as to filed specifics and industry specific
through Regional Testing Centers, Field Testing Stations and Autonomous bodies like Tool
Rooms and Technology Development Center.
