Class timetables, along with many other resources, are posted on the school website at https://daysland.brsd.ab.ca/. As you know, we held our last student/parent/teacher conferences early in October. This was a great opportunity to develop relationships and allowed us to develop strategies that we could implement early in the school year. We have scheduled our second set of student/parent/teacher conferences for March 4, 2020 from 4:00pm to 9:00. Student led conferences will guide the conversations in ECS through Grade 6 where your child will be leading the work in showing you what they know. Conversations in Grades 7-12 will focus on strategies and next steps learning. Of course, we strongly encourage your child to accompany you as his or her voice is important and valued in the conversation. Maplewood is a great place to access learning evidence and can guide some really good conversations with your child. It also supports intentional and positive conversations with teachers. If you need Maplewood support or contact information for teachers please call the main office. As always, be in touch if you have any questions. The squads will be racing against each other on the early dismissal day in March. c) Hot Lunch (Pauline Hudson): all is going well

d) Room Reps: Kindergarten (Teena Kasha): Mrs. Teigen - Kindergarten has now finished all of the sounds in our Jolly Phonics program. Now that we know them all we are really diving into reading and writing consonant-vowel-consonant words. We had our Man in your Life Night this week and it was well attended. Kindergartners had fun showing their guests our classroom and some of the fun centres. We built catapults and marshmallow structures, played floor hockey, ate ice cream sundaes and fit 15 dads and grandpas on an upside down table supported only by balloons! Grade 1 (Laura Zwack): Ms. Mowat - Something that the students have been really excited about is that we have started “Friend of the Week’ in our classroom. So just as a reminder, each week a student is chosen to be the ‘friend’ who can bring in photos to share and something different for show and tell each day. Throughout the week all of the other students write a letter to the friend and I then make them a booklet as a keepsake! I remember doing something similar to this as a kid and I still have the booklet of letters from my classmates which is very entertaining to read. Grade 2/3 (Wendy Weiss): Mrs. Schlaut - Grade 2/3s are busy working hard and are enjoying the snow and warm temperatures outside this week. Grade 3s went to the Bull Congress yesterday and had a really great time learning where our food comes from. It was a fun day! We are working hard on learning different mental math strategies to add numbers to 10 and 100 in Math. In Language Arts, we are working on making predictions while we are reading and we will begin writing Acrostic poems soon. Everyone is working hard and having fun.

They created illustrations in Google Draw and recorded their voices narrating their version of the story. We put them together into a movie making app called WeVideo. They are almost ready for presenting to the younger grades. We will also share them with our parents through email. We are also working on multiplying and division facts in math. We had just completed a Book Club. In math, we are using our multiplication facts to do 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication. Once students have finished with insulators and conductors, they will be using that information to create their own switches, then their own burglar alarms as well as a matching game for our Kinder pals! Grade 6 (Adrian Ketchmark): Mrs. McKay- The grade six room has been busy trying to stay warm. We had a great Christmas concert for our last year, full of laughs!!! A huge thank- you to the volunteers who put on our Christmas buffet!! Back to school after the holidays has been fun as we are all making sleds in squads made up of all the grades!!!! Our trip to the legislature was postponed due to the cold snap we had, we will be going on January 23rd. Grade 7 (Jeanni Hoermann): Mr. Brandt - In Health 7, the students have planned activities for grade 1s to participate in. The grade 7s realized that planning for 5 year olds is not that easy.
