Setting Up Your Telescope:•Carefullyremovethecomponentsfromthebox. Attaching Tripod Legs To Mount:•Twisteachtripodlegintocorrespondingholesinmount. Donotovertighten.•Rotaterubberfeetsothattheflatportionisflushtothetable.
Attaching Telescope To Mount:•Removealtitudelockknob.•Aligntopholeinmountwithscrewholeinmountingbracket.Make
sure eyepiece is pointing upward.•Insertaltitudelockknobthroughtopholeinmountandscrewintoholeinmountingbracketuntilsecure.Donotovertighten.

Attaching Eyepieces:•Loosenthumbscrewinfocuser.•Selectaneyepieceandinsertintofocuser.•Tightenthumbscrewtosecureeyepieceinplace.Donotovertighten
as it may damage eyepiece.•Makesuretoloosenthumbscrewbeforeremovingeyepiecesfromfocuser.
Onceyouhaveproperlyassembledyourtelescopeyouarereadytostartusingit.Pleaserefertothevisualkeydiagramwhilereadingtheseinstructions.
First,placeyourtelescopeonastablesurface.Makesureallrubberfeetontripodarerotatedsotheflatsectionisflushtothesurface.
•Removetherubberdustcoverfromtheprimarymirrorandsetaside.•Insertthedesiredeyepiece.Itisbesttousethelowestpowereye-piece(theKellner25mmeyepiece)atfirst.Thisallowsforawiderfieldofviewmakingiteasiertolocateobjects.Oncetheviewingobjectisvisible,focusedandcenteredinthefieldofviewyoucanswitchtheeyepiecetothehighermagnification.•Tolocateanobjectusingthetelescope,firstloosenthealtitudelockknoballowingthetelescopetorotatefreelyalongbothaxes.

USING THE TELESCOPE
•Aimthetubelessopticalassemblyatyourdesiredtargetbyrotatingtheazimuthpositionleftorright.Lookthroughtheeyepieceatthedesiredtarget,andmakealtitudeadjustmentsbymovingthetube-lessopticalassemblyverticallybyhand.Whenthealtitudedirection isaligned,youmayretightenthealtitudelockknob.•Oncetheobjectiscenteredinthefieldofview,turnthefocuseruntiltheimageisclearandsharp.•Forbestresults,positionyoureyeascloseaspossibletotheeyepiecelens.Thisisespeciallyimportantwhenusingthehigherpower10mmeyepiece.•Replacedustcoveronprimarymirrorwhennotinuse.
Therearemanyconditionsthatmayaffectyourabilitytofocusor observecelestialobjectsclearly.
•Brightlylitareas(lightpollution)willmakeitdifficulttoseefaintobjectsinthesky.Itwillalsomakeitdifficultforyoureyestoadjusttothedark.Youshouldtryandfindadarkareaandallowyoureyestoadjusttothedarkbeforemakingobservations.Usingaredfilteredflashlighttoviewchartsandyourtelescopecomponentsisrecom-mendedtopreserveyournightsight.Thebestviewingconditionsarewhentheskyisinkyblack.•Hazyskies,pollution,cloudsandmoisturecanallaffecttheclarityofyourviewingimage.•Duetothetubelessconstructionofthistelescope,theprimaryandsecondarymirrorsareexposedtopossibledust,debrisandfinger-prints.Becarefultoavoidtouchingthesemirrorsandexposingthemtoexcessivedebris.RefertotheCareandMaintenancesectionofthismanualforinstructionsonhowtocleanyourtelescope.Alwaysreplacethedustcoveroverprimarymirrorwhennotinuse.•Avoidtouchingtheeyepieceoropticalassemblywhilelookingthroughthetelescope.Thevibrationscausedbythiscontactwillcausetheobjectyouarelookingattomove.Youshouldalsomakesurethatthesurfaceyouplaceyourtelescopeondoesnotvibrateormoveasthiswillalsocauseyourviewingobjecttomove.•Youshouldavoidsettingupyourtelescopeinsidearoomlookingthroughanopenwindow.Thedifferenceinairtemperaturesmayresult in a blurry image.

•Viewingthroughaclosedwindowmightalsoresultinadistorted imageduetothevaryingdensitiesofwindowglass.•Avoidviewingobjectsthatarelowonthehorizon.Objectsthatarehigherupintheskywillappearmuchsharper.stothenewtempera-turebeforeusingit.•Suddenchangesintemperaturemaycausecondensationtoappearontheopticalcomponentsofthetelescope.Itisbesttosetupyourtelescopeaheadoftimeandthenwaitwhilethetelescopeadjuststothenewtemperaturebeforeusingit.

Themagnificationofatelescopedependsonboththefocallength ofyourtelescopeaswellastheeyepieceyouuse.Thereisasimple formulayoucanusetodeterminethemagnificationyouareusingatanygiventime.Simplydividethefocallengthofthetelescopebythefocallengthoftheeyepiece.Therearetwopossiblemagnification settingsforyourSK-100telescope: Power=360mm/25mm=14.4xPower=360mm/10mm=36x

•Theprimarymirrorandsecondarymirrormustremainpreciselyalignedinorderforthistelescopetoworkproperly.Avoiddroppingorjarringthetelescope,ormovingthemirrorsbyhand.•Alwaysreplacedustcoversandlenscapsandstoreinboxwhennotinuse.Thiswillminimizetheamountofdustanddebristhatgetsinto your telescope.•Cleaningshouldbeperformedonlyifabsolutelynecessary.Becarefultoavoidtouchingtheinternalmirrorsandexposingthemtoexcessivedebris.Intheeventthatthesemirrorsbecomedirty,firstusecompressedairtoremovedustanddebris.Ifanydebrisorfin-gerprintsremain,useasoftlensclothorcottonballswithverylightpressureandwarmwatertoremovethem.Amixtureofwateranddishsoapmaybeusedtoremoveanystubborndebris.Becarefulnottoscrubthesurfaceofthemirrororuseanyabrasivematerial,harshchemicalsorsolventasthismaydamagethesurfaceofthemirror.•Ifdewcollectsontheopticsofyourtelescopeormoisturecondensesontheoptics,removeallaccessoriesandplacethetelescopeinadry,dustfreeenvironmentandpointthetelescopedownward.Thisshouldhelpeliminatethemoisture.•Donotattempttotakeapartyourtelescopetocleanit.
