Vertical Mixed FlowPumpsThe vertical mixed ow pump wasinitially developed for agriculturalpumping. Continuous improve-ments, special designs and newmaterials have made it ideal formunicipal water supply, drain-age, ood control, power plantintake and industrial uses of alltypes. There is an ever increas-ing demand for the efcientmanagement of the worlds waterresources. A better understand-ing of water application problems,increased production demandsand sophisticated facility andequipment design have createdthe need for superior high capacity

medium head pumping capabili-ties.

Advantages Minimal use of oor space. The NPSH available can be the

lowest level to satisfy the NPSHrequirements of the pump.

No priming required, the pumpbowl assembly is submerged inthe uid being pumped.

SJM Design Features and Benets

HeadshaftPrecision machined and sizedper power input application.Drive couplings connect head-

shaft with a vertical solid shaftmotor.

Shaft SealA packed stufng box is providedfor reliable sealing and simplemaintenance. Optional mechani-cal seal available.

PumpshaftThe shaft is tailor-made tothe service needs and sizedindividually for each installation;sized for max. torque. Steppedshaft with sleeves can be sup-plied.

Bowl BearingsBowls are tted with dual metaland rubber bearings.

ImpellerImpeller is semi-open design,cast from various materials ofchoice for versatility, balancedto assure vibration free opera-tions and polished to optimizeperformance. Impeller is securedto shaft by a key and split thrustring.

Discharge HeadAbove ground discharge head isstandard. The integral driver standallows easy access to removable

packing/seal box and coupling.Each standardized discharge headcomes with a segmented bend/mo-tor stool and utilizes a stufng boxdesigned to accommodate variousmechanical seals.

Column AssemblyColumn pipes are anged. Line shaftsare connected by split ring, key andsleeve couplings. Line shaft bearingsare replaceable.Column assemblies have an integralspider for column diameters above13.5.

BowlsThe SJM bowl design combines theenergy conversion and diffusion ofthe intermediate bowl and dischargecase in one single casing. This re-duces the required components andallows for a direct connection to thecolumn pipe. Bowls are standard castiron material and are available with areplaceable bowl liner.

Suction BellEach suction bell size includes antivortex ribs and tail bearing bushings.The suction bells are standard castiron material and are available witha replaceable bowl liner. An optionalstrainer restricts entry of any foreignobject during pump operation.

Thrust Bearing AssemblyThe thrust bearing assemblies are available when required by application.They are built to handle all of the down thrust produced by the pump andas much momentary up thrust that may occur. The exible coupling with

spacer allows servicing the thrust bearing and mechanical seal as needed.A one-piece fabricated motor stand housing is bolted down over the dis-charge to protect the bearing and support the motor.

Optional features include sandstorm protection, special means for coolingand a constant level oil lubricator.

Discharge HeadBelow ground discharge head is available. Each comes with a seg-mented elbow designed to optimize pump efciency. The elbows arefabricated in various materials to meet many required applications.The discharge nozzle can be either plain-end or anged. The mo-tor stand is mounted above ground and is designed to support theweight and provide the maximum clearance for multiple stufng boxoptions. The stufng box options include gland packing, shaft tubeand mechanical seal.

Two Stage ConstructionA two stage design of the SJM isavailable for increased head require-ments.

This two stage construction is appli-cable for the models LS, MS and PS.
