SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FEBRUARY 11, 2018

FROM THE PASTOR

My Dear Parishioners,

Praised be Jesus Christ! On this weekend aer such an historic week for Philadelphia, it may be tough to look ahead at a new week especially if you’re an Eagles’ fan. You may find yourself sll looking up at those birds flying high with the Lombardi trophy in hand! Way to go Eagles! Thank you for a great season and for giving such a beauful witness of

Chrisan Faith through it all. Well Done!

With that said, the Eagles have landed back in Philadelphia and now the post-season begins. But for us this week, it’s not a post-season but the Pre-Season Season that begins. The Season of Lent! This week, we begin that Season which prepares us for the most Sacred Time of the Chrisan Year: Holy Week and Easter. With all that in mind, a few notes about Lent:

Lent is not primarily about what we do, it’s a me to recall what Jesus does. In Lent, we recall Jesus’ 40 Days in the Desert prior to His public ministry. Those were days that prepared Him for His mission. And so, the Season of Lent is a me that can prepare us for our Mission as we call to mind and embrace what He did.

2) What is that Mission? The Mission is being one with Jesus Christ so as to be Him for our needy world. That union with Christ happens not by going off to a desert but by being filled with His Holy Spirit, being more intenonal about our lives and embracing every opportunity live a more authenc life.

3) Resources that can help us with that Union are numerous but they always involve personal, communal and familial aspects. For each of those, consider the following resources:

Personal: In Lent, receive daily emails via Dynamic Catholic: Best Lent Ever;

Or Bishop Robert Barron. Or check out the Laudate App

Communally: Take advantage of our parish offerings: Our Sunday Lenten Speaker Series, Monday Adoraon and Friday Staons of the Cross

Familial: Don’t neglect or overlook the family. Make me for your children and your spouse. Pray

together, make me together, be together.

Let us live Lent well so as to be the people God is calling us to be!

Peace,

Fr. Rogers

OUR PARISH SURVEY HAS BEGUN!

Please take me this week to visit our parish website and do the Discipleship Maker Index Parish Survey. If you do not have a computer or prefer not to do the survey on line, hard copy surveys will be available in the back of the Church, and in the Parish Office. Or take the survey aer any Saturday or Sunday Mass and enjoy a cup of coffee from our new coffee machines in our Church basement! It takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete and will provide a great benefit to both our parish and to you, person-ally. All responses are confidenal and the parish will receive informaon about us and our community as a whole. This will help us move forward in our parish planning and will help us to be what God is calling us to be for Him and for others.

Staons of the Cross starng Friday, Feb-ruary 16 at 7:00PM through Lent. NOT

on Good Friday.

Each Sunday of Lent, join

us for these special

events. The three talks

will be held in the Church

Basement after the 12:00

Mass from 1:15-2:30PM.

February 25: Denise McKenzie: The Power of Prayer

On March 25, 1992, Denise’s 14 year old daughter ex-

perienced a life changing event when her debilitating

illness of almost 3 years suddenly and miraculously

disappeared on the 4th day of a novena being said for

her cure by a little known French nun, Mother Francis

de Sales Aviat. This miracle led to the canonization of

Mother Aviat, now known as St. Leonie Aviat.

March 4: Robert Gutherman: The Gift of Hearing

In 1974, Robert Gutherman experienced a serious ear

infection which led him to Children’s Hospital of Phil-

adelphia. It was there that he experienced a miracle of

profound sorts. A miracle attested to by doctors, a mir-

acle that led to the canonization of St. Katherine in

2000.

March 11: Fr. Connolly: The Passion Narrative of St. Mark

St. Mark’s Gospel has been referred to as a long Pas-

sion account. As we get ready for Holy Week, come

and learn what makes his Gospel so unique and how to

make ready for a special Holy Week.

Look into the Future

Moms and dads always try to

give their children good ad-

vice. Do you remember

when you were young and

your mom or dad would say “Your actions speak

louder than words?” Have you ever considered ac-

tively being involved in your church community? If

so, consider volunteering not as a coach on your

child’s sports team this year but why not volunteer

to be on Christ’s team. Show your children and the

children of the parish Christ’s love through your

actions. Show who you are and what you believe as

a Catholic parent. We invite you to come join the

many volunteers who teach our children about the

love of God. Call the Office of Religious Education

at 610-444-2214 to inquire about further details.

It is that time of year when

the St. Patrick family cele-

brates St. Patrick’s Holiday at

the Mendenhall Inn. The Ga-

la will be celebrated Sunday, March 18 from 2-6PM.

Tickets will be available beginning early February

from the Knights of Columbus after each mass or

through the Parish Office. Great music and a super

selection of delicious cuisine all served in the beautiful

Grand Ballroom.

Our children’s choir, under Laura Feininger, plus the

gifted award winning Irish Dancers will make this an

entertaining and memorable afternoon.

The SILENT AUCTION will be extraordinary. Sever-

al generous parishioners have donated a variety of

brand new exciting gifts. Also donated are several

important works of art together with very collectable

posters and beautiful pottery. Other donations, gift

certificates, products or services are gratefully appreci-

ated.

Good company, good food, delightful entertainment,

an outstanding silent auction-plus the chance for the

baskets of cheer, make a terrific afternoon.

See you at Mendenhall. Tickets are $35.00 for adults.

Event: “Anthem Live”

Hosted by: The Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry

“There’s a lot demanding our aenon. The best thing to cut through the noise? Space to hear God speak. You don’t need a crowd of people or a big cathedral to have a conversaon with God, but there’s undeniable power in experiencing prayer together under one roof-especially when there’s a powerhouse of young adults from Philadel-phia. Join us for a night of worship and adoraon led by Sean Forrest and John Niven.”
