News In Brief

We Will Remember Them

On Monday 11th November a special assembly was held for Years 11 to 13, marking 101 years since the

end of First World War. Three of our Sixth Form students contributed to a moving Remembrance

celebration, not only paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the Great War but also reminding us of

the importance of remembering the few who have given their lives to protect the many in conflicts up until

the present day. Thanks go to Chesna Mitra, Niamh Teather and Sophie Rodhouse for committing their

time to such an important assembly, and also to Emily Evetts for her beautiful repertoire of songs which

set the scene perfectly as students entered the hall.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: age shall not weary them, nor the years

condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them."

Laurence Binyon, For the Fallen

A Taste of Wexham

On Thursday 7th November, Frimley Health NHS

Trust hosted its annual 'A Taste of Wexham'

event which provided an overview of a career in

medicine. Several of our Sixth Form students

attended the event where they enjoyed tours of

various departments and talks from a number of

healthcare professionals.

"The event was extremely insightful and enabled us to see a typical day as a doctor, nurse or

pharmacist. We listened to talks by specialists and got involved with surgical techniques by

practising with a simulation doll. We were also very lucky to meet ‘Tom and Jerry’, the two robots

who work in the Pharmacy!"

Stephanie Stuij, Year 12

The Lumière Film Society

This week's presentation celebrated J K Rowling’s slightly darker fantasy adventure, 'Fantastic Beasts

And Where To Find Them’, which is yet to be published as a book. The film opens in 1926 as Newt

Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical

creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident were it

not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some

of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds. The

screening attracted a record number of students who all thoroughly enjoyed the film.

Be Kind

Wednesday 13th November was World Kindness Day which

served as a reminder that we should strive to be kind every

day. Remember, you never know what someone is going

through, so always be kind! Here are some tips to help you

along the way:

Compliment someone in a meaningful way: it is so

simple but think of the times you have felt down and a

random compliment has picked you back up!

Hold the door open: the essence of politeness. This

quick act is an easy way to make someone feel

honoured.

Donate your time: there are many charities or causes

that need help and time is invaluable.

Smile more often: smiling really is infectious and is

one of the quickest ways to light up someone else.

Say “thank you”: be grateful, especially for the small

things. People will appreciate it.

Listen: take time to simply listen during a conversation

with a friend or family member from beginning to end.

Listening shows such kindness.

Social media kindness: social media has the power to

hurt and help. When using social media, put thought

into your content; this can truly make a difference in

someone’s life.
