Entries from Carey's trail journal are presented here. You can also follow his journey on Facebook. June 15, 2015: Hogwallow Flats to US522, Front Royal, 10.1 miles, 8am to 12:30pm. Awesome sleep last night, warm as it was. Broke camp without coffee or breakfast. Bounded over Compton Peak and descended to Tom Floyd Wayside, a trail side shelter. Left Shenandoah National Park just prior. Snacked up at the shelter, then continued to the road. One more grunt of a hill and then down I was. Crossed the highway and followed the trail as it paralleled US522 for about a half-mile. Where it bore sharply left I went out to the road and followed it 100 yards to the glorious Mountain Home Cabbin and BB. Sweet little brick house wit h 6 beds. I settled In upstairs, had a fabulous shower, then several glasses of cold lemonade from the fridge. Life us good. Owners Scott and Lisa will shuttle us into Front Royal later for groceries, laundry and a meal. Yeah! Nice setup for hikers here, all for just $20.

Harpers Ferry in 3-4 days. Will pass the 1000-mile mark en route...

Evening... Caught a ride into town with Lisa. Did laundry, had a burger lunch, bought a small JimBeamer at the ABC store, and grabbed some groceries. Back after 3 hours. Then she gave me andDB and tour of the historic Greek Revival home they are restoring. Pretty amazing project, got methinking about what I'd learned while touring Historic Deerfield in MA last fall.

Microwave pizza and several beers later, I've finished up much of my blogging and am near readyfor bed. Have arranged for a slack pack tomorrow morning after breakfast to Ashby Gap, from whichwe'll hike 20 miles back to here for a second night's stay.

Then it'll be a backpack to Bears Den Hostel, then another slack pack to Harpers Ferry...
