Malitubog-Maridagao, Libungan RiversFrom the areas of Lanao del Sur and Bukidnon flow
the Libungan and Malitubog-Maridagao Riversrespectively. They eventually flow into the
Ligawasan Marsh. The swelling of these heavily
silted rivers and their tributaries due to the heavyrainfall in May and June aggravated by wanton
deforestation caused severe flooding in the province
of North Cotabato. This took place particularly in
the municipalities Alamada, Libungan, Pigcawayan,
and Midsayap and resulted in the destruction of
thousands of hectares of farmlands.
