Sitecore Components
Carries or holds content in a page. Can range from image galleries to text holders to collapsible content boxes. Components available to you is dependent upon the section of the page in which you want to place the component.
Components Location
Exist independently of the page in which they are displayed. In a section or directory of the web site called site-data. The page “pulls” these holders of content from their place in the site-data directory and puts the component into its designated place on the page. Can be used or shared by more than one page, or they can be for a one-time use.
Sitecore Components
You can think of a page as an arrangement of content components. Some components are static and display content - text for example in the Rich Text) Other components have behaviors or actions that might require the visitor to click on or scroll on to the component - for instance, the collapsible info (also know as an accordion dropdown) component
Sitecore Components
After determining that a component is going to be used, some questions need to be answered:
What specific type of kind of component is best for your purpose(s)?Where on the page will the component be placed? The area of the page will determine your choice of component. Does the component and content already exist elsewhere? If it does exist elsewhere then you can use it on your page by inserting/linking to it. Warning: If the component is used elsewhere, keep in mind that when the content of the shared component is changed, it will change wherever that component is used. A commonly shared component might be the one for contact information.
