ESRI / GIS Products
• OCIO will distribute ESRI products– Center for Mapping is no longer distributing
after June 30
• Central license server– On Campus use, or via VPN– Off campus use and servers are still being
worked out
• Heavy-Use Departments are cost sharing, and making it available
ESRI / GIS Products
• Software will be extended to students for personal machines
• Software is now treated as a “true” site license– Paid for via cooperative means– Distributed with no usage cap– Available to the entire university– No per-install fees
• Expected start: Early August
Renewals
• NVivo– Renewals on June 1, 2014– NVivo for Mac expected out in June
• SPSS– Renewals on July 1, 2014
• MATLAB– Renews on August 30, 2014
Office365 and iPad Apps
• iPad apps for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint were released at the end of March– Office365 users are the only people eligible
for a login• O365 for University price: $80/4 years
• Current Microsoft contract includes:– Office365 for Students? Yes.– Office365 for Fac/Staff? No.

• Today’s offering is:– Students, faculty, and staff can purchase a
perpetual copy of Office Pro Plus 2013 for $49 at WiredOut.
• Perpetual• No O365 services• One computer
• We can continue to sell the perpetual copy through FY15 (graduating students, fac/staff)

• Office365 offer from MS (that we have currently licensed for students) includes:– Up to 5 devices
• c.f. O365 University – 4 devices: 2 computers, 2 tablets
– We can choose which O365 services to turn on– Subscription-based
• Graduates must purchase a subscription to remain on license
Office365 and OneDrive
• Announcement yesterday of OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) being updated from 25GB to 1TB for O365 Education users– Requires A2 or A3– Student Advantage is likely not affected by
this; only faculty/staff would receive this benefit in its current form
– There are contract concerns with OneDrive that need to be resolved

• Where do we go from here?– OCIO is working on technical issues to
provide access– Students are the first priority, then Fac/Staff– Examination of OneDrive and options– Departmental purchases are one option, as
individual departments could buy licenses once the tech side is resolved
Pricing Changes for SLS
• Expected price changes next year– Parallels (Already Updated)
• Old price: $34. New price: $35
– Nvivo (beginning June 1)• Old price: $42. New price: $50
– Adding: NVivo Mac
– Minitab (beginning July 1)• Old price: free. New price: $12
– Update to v. 17
– Sigmaplot (beginning July 1)• Old price: $16. New price: $21
Pricing Changes for SLS
• OCIO will continue to provide a central share for budgeted FY15 purchases of:– MATLAB– SPSS– SYSTAT
• We expect to approach total recovery on those in FY16.
• Adobe brought a new pricing option to the table in early January.– We have achieved approx. 70% funding
based on current budgets– IUC has put an offer to Adobe for a deeper
discounted price. Information pending.• IUC offer has been rejected by Adobe• Counter-offer expected on Friday• OCIO SLS may set up another meeting this month
with Adobe stakeholders

• Adobe is seeking to release “Creative Cloud for Education” with device-based licensing– Ideal for labs: current CC offering is user-
based
• BGSU received a quote yesterday (based on CLP pricing):– $168.51 for device user licensing– $279.28 for named user licensing
Symantec Antivirus Licenses
• OCIO Security has purchased a site-wide license for Symantec Protection Suite– Includes
• AntiVirus• Recovery Desktop• Ghost• Several other components
– Ghost will be available via OCIO Self Service by 5/15/15
Microsoft SQL Server
• Microsoft has made an offer of approximately $400k to license the entire University starting July 1, to co-term with our Campus Agreement
• Cost is approximately $6/FTE (faculty, staff, and students)
• The University has reached a tipping point where licensing it for everyone will be cheaper than licensing it based on individual departmental need going forward.

• July 8, 2015 – Extended Support Transition– SQL Server 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 will no
longer have Mainstream Support
