SITE COUNCIL BY LAWS Dodge City Middle School Site Council Bylaws

NAME

The name shall be the Dodge City Middle School Site Council.

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Dodge City Middle School Site Council shall be to:

Provide advice and counsel to the school in evaluating state, school district, and school site

performance;

Help determine methods which should be employed by the school to meet the goals and

objectives; and

Provide ongoing support for the students and staff of the school.

REPRESENTATION AND MEMBERSHIP

The Dodge City Middle School Site Council is required by Kansas law to have the following groups

represented:

The principal

Teachers

Other school personnel

Parents of pupils attending the school

The business community

Other community groups

SELECTION PROCEDURES

Initially council members shall be identified by the building administrator, who shall recommend their

appointment to the superintendent and Board of Education. The Board shall approve all appointments.

TERMS OF SERVICE

All appointed members of the council shall serve -year terms. The length of terms will be

staggered. The number of terms a member may serve shall be .

or

No limit shall be set on the number of terms a member may serve.

Membership on the council shall terminate when a member:

No longer has a child enrolled in the school or no longer lives in the school attendance area

(parent position only);

No longer holds a teaching position at the school (teaching position only);

No longer holds the principal’s position at the school (principal position only);

Has missed three consecutive scheduled meetings without proper notice to the chair; or

Submits a letter of resignation to the chair.

If a vacancy exists, the chair (or principal) shall recommend an appropriate representative to the Board.

If approved, the person shall finish the remainder of the term. If the recommendation is not approved

by the Board, the Board may direct the superintendent, the council chair, or a building principal to

present another recommendation.

OFFICERS

The officers of the Dodge City Middle School Site Council shall consist of a chair, vice chair, and

secretary. The officers shall be elected annually by the council membership in the first meeting of each

academic year (or ).

At no time shall these positions be held exclusively by all educators or parents.

DUTIES OF OFFICERS

The chair shall preside at all meetings and have general supervision of the council’s activities. The chair

shall work with the principal in planning and directing the council’s activities.

The chair, in consultation with the principal, shall prepare an agenda for all council meetings and arrange

for the agenda to be delivered to each member at least 7 days before each meeting. The vice chair shall

exercise all functions in the absence of the chair and assist the chair as needed.

The secretary is responsible for:

Keeping an account of the proceedings and transaction of all council meetings;

Providing a copy of the minutes to the council members and the clerk of the board within 7

days of each meeting;

Preparing any official correspondence the chair may request;

Maintaining a council file in the school’s administrative offices containing copies of all minutes,

council correspondence, the annual school report, and the current council guidelines; and

Maintaining a list of council members with current contact information, including e-mail

addresses.

MEETINGS

The council shall meet in the months of September, October, November, December, January, February,

March, April, and May(monthly or locally determined frequency) in the school(location) on the 3rd

Monday of each month at

5:30 p.m.(determined dates). Special meetings may be called by the chair or vice chair as long as all the

council members are notified of the meeting at least two days in advance and notice of the meeting is

given to those who have requested notice of council meetings.

The first council meeting of the academic year shall be called in September (determine date).

4 council members shall constitute a quorum. (A quorum must be present to conduct business.)

All council meetings are open to the public, and members of the public shall be encouraged to attend.

Persons desiring to speak at a council meeting may request to be put on the agenda no later than 7 days

before the meeting date.

REPORTS

The council shall report to the Board 1 times a year. Reports shall be written and filed with the clerk of

the Board. The Board may invite some or all of the members to discuss the reports. After the Board

accepts each report, copies shall be shared with principal and staff.

LEGAL DUTIES

Site councils shall not have any of the powers and duties reserved by law or regulation to the School

Board. Site councils shall comply with all applicable conditions of the Kansas Open Meetings Act and the

Kansas Open Records Act.

TRAINING

An orientation session that includes information about council roles, responsibilities and functions, as

well as information on school and local policies and procedures, shall be held annually for all council

members. Council members should attend training workshops sponsored by the district and, if the

Board approves, are encouraged to attend training sessions sponsored by other agencies. Training

expenses (may/shall) be paid by the Board.

AMENDMENTS

These guidelines shall be reviewed annually; any recommended changes approved at a council meeting

shall be forwarded to the superintendent. The superintendent shall consult with the Board president on

when to place the recommended changes on a regular Board meeting agenda. If the recommended

changes are approved by the Board, they shall become effective immediately and shall be filed with the

clerk.

You will be instrumental in helping our school establish goals for serving our students' needs. This year we are focusing our goals on student centered learning. We believe that your ideas in helping Dodge City Middle School continue to improve will benefit our community as well. The first meeting of the Site Council has been set for Monday, September 21st, in the DCMS Library Conference Room. Please arrive at the school at 5:30 p.m., as we will begin with the election of officers for the 2015-2016 school year. The meeting will continue with a brainstorming session concerning our goals for school improvement. Following the brainstorming session, we will take an in-depth look at various methods for improving communication between the school and its patrons. You will be receiving an e-mail prior to our first meeting. The e-mail will contain an agenda outlining the purpose of the Site Council including an agenda for topics of discussion. October 31: October 12 through October 31 is the correction window for buildings and districts to review their 2015 assessment results and make any necessary corrections. The 2015 assessment results will serve as baseline data for future accountability measures.

DCMS SITE COUNCIL MINUTES 9/21/2015

The Dodge City Middle School Site Council met on September 21st, 2015 in the Library Conference Room at DCMS. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by Principal, Mike King. Members In Attendance: R. Bunkall, J. Cooper, M. King, S. Polkinghorn, J. Pedigo, J. Ralston, C. Rankin, T. Spencer, K. Young Members Not in Attendance: M. Estrada, L. Farmer, J. Sowers, M. Kline Special Guests: Roxana Linares (Stuco, Student Representative), Erika Linares (Roxana’s Mother), Faye Wells (Assistant Principal) Objectives: 1. Establish the roles and purposes of the Site Council. 2. Get acquainted with each other. 3. Identify the council’s goals. 4. Provide survey reflection time. Order of Buisness: Stuco Report- Roxana Linares Stuco is calling for more involvement from the student body. They are reaching out to 6th graders to help with the concession stand at DCMS sporting events. They have also had each advisory class select one representative to be a member of Stuco. Their 1st all- member meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2015. Events coming up:

Ribbon Week Mini-Session Training Mr. King conducted the training for members of site council. The Bylaws were read and discussed. Duties of the officers were explained. Officer Elections Chair- C. Rankin (Nominated by J. Cooper, Seconded by S. Polkinghorn, All members were in favor.) Vice Chair- J. Cooper (Nominated by C. Rankin, Seconded by K. Young, All members were in favor.) Secretary- J. Ralston (Nominated by S. Polkinghorn, Seconded by C. Rankin, All members were in favor.) State Testing Timeline Mr. King discussed how this will be the 1st time in 2 years we will see state assessments. He also explained that if a student doesn’t score in the top 2 tiers, they qualify for remediation. C. Rankin brought up that less than 1/3 of DCHS Sophomores scored in the top 2 tiers and are considered college and career ready. Mr. King said that he would email the report to members so we can view it and that there would be more information regarding the state assessments at the next meeting on October 19th, 2015.

We also discussed teacher evaluations and growth measures linked to the state assessments. Mr. King explained that the teachers are working with CMS to come up with at least five growth measures and that teachers must meet two of the growth measures to qualify as proficient or above. He suggested that teachers pick three soft growth measures, such as rubric based. Bond Issue Update: Faye Wells This summer a Bond issue was passed for $87.5 million. We are now starting the process of determining how much money DCMS will get from that bond issue and what needs will be able to be met with the money. On October 6th, 2015 there will be meetings from 10:00-3:00 with key DCMS staff that will benefit directly from the improvements to the school. From 3:15-5:00, the DCMS lead design team will start to put a plan together over what the final product will look like. A final schedule of those meetings will be emailed out once they are finalized. Any Site council member that wants to be a part of these meetings is welcome to do so. There was discussion of possibly scheduling a meeting with the Site Council and the architect so we could see what everything was going to look like. Other Business: J. The Dodge City Middle School Site Council met on October 19th, 2015 in the Library Conference Room at DCMS. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by Principal, Mike King. October 30- Throwback Day- Dress like a Kid 8th Grade Career Exploration Day, October 28th 11:35-1:45 Latino Leadership Day DC3, October 28th Local Teacher Surverys and Proposals, Mike King The music faculty has proposed that the middle schools from Dodge City host a music festival because we have outgrown the festival we usually attend. The proposed date is March 2nd, 2016 and will be held at Comanche Middle School. The board still needs to approve not having school on that date. There is a teacher survey going out school-wide to gather input on the proposed date. The proposal is due to go in front of the board on October 26. Mr. King will send out the proposal once it is finalized. Facilities, Courtney Rankin The committees met on October 6th and listened to what the teachers want in their rooms and how they would use the new space. This meeting was mostly for budgeting and prioritizing. We have received good feedback and the design team has begun the 1st draft of the plan. State Assessments Mr. King showed us some of the state assessment scores that we received the beginning of October. He suggested we think of the new assessments like an ACT and the scores like D.O.K. levels. Students scoring at a Level 1 are considered below grade level, Level 2 are at grade level, Levels 3 and 4 are considered college and career ready. The 1st 25 questions of the assessment determine whether or not the student will get an opportunity to answer level 3 questions. If they do well on those 25 questions, the next 15 questions will determine whether or not the student will get an opportunity to answer level 4 questions (multi-step problems). Mr. King will work on getting us a copy of some sample questions.

Math Levels= School Median= 276- 85% of our school is at a Level 1 or Level 2 District Median= 273 State Median= 281 We are looking at curriculum, rigor and relevance to help raise the state assessment scores so we have more students in the level 3 and 4 range. Mr. King will keep us posted on what that will look like and how it will progress. PLC leaders are currently comparing current units being taught to the new assessment rubrics. Mr. King will also send out a copy of the rubrics. We also discussed how they determined the “cut-offs” for the scores. Mr. King said he will send us the article explaining how they determined the “cut-offs”. MDPT Proposal This is a teacher-led driver that is involving writing throughout the curriculum, including every subject, every classroom. We are focusing on using power words (academic vocabulary) and asking essential questions (in kid friendly language). The Dodge City Middle School Site Council met on November 16th, 2015 in the Library Conference Room

at DCMS. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by Courtney Rankin.

Stuco Report- Sherry Polkinghorn Events coming up: Dance on December 11th -Proposed for students to bring a canned food/dry food donation in place of the $2 charge to get into the dance.

Local Teacher Surverys and Proposals, Mike King The music festival has been approved to be held at CMS on March 2nd, 2016. Facilities, Mike King There isn’t any new information at this time. The school should be receiving the 1st schematic on Wednesday, November 17th. State Assessments Mr. King showed us the correct information for the adaptive model. We also looked over where we are as a school in the different tiers to determine how many of our students are college and career ready according to the state tests.

We also discussed the SRI and SMI scores. Mr. King explained that the SMI scores haven’t had lot of validity to them and that last year’s scores had to be thrown out. DCMS Writing Initiative Mr. King discussed how various teachers throughout the school are currently using MDPT practices in their classrooms to help prepare students for the state assessments. Jessica Ralston showed a picture of how she is implementing these strategies into her classroom. Teachers are also going to start implementing various thinking maps into their lessons to support specific thinking. Digital Badge Program: Mike King The digital badge program supports what is going on throughout the school and helps develop and support certain skill sets. We kicked off this program today (11/16). Students can redeem badges for non-uniform days and are sent the reminders through the remind 101 messaging app.

We have a community concert at the Civic Center on November 23rd and we will run the AM Assembly Schedule.

We also briefly discussed the school’s uniform policy for clarification of hoodies. Hoodies can be worn on non-uniform days only.

The Dodge City Middle School Site Council met on January 25th, 2016 in the Library Conference Room at

DCMS. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 by JoEllen Cooper.

Reading of the Minutes The Minutes from the meeting held on January 11th. 2016 were approved.

Review of Root Cause Priorities o JoEllen Cooper discussed the process of we determined our root cause priority (Better teacher

communication with parents, para’s, etc.) and that her group focused on the training/ development opportunities (or lack-thereof) for para’s (both 443 and 613)

o Sherry Polkinghorn discussed how some of the things we discussed during the late start in January were out of our control as teachers but were in the control of the administration, so maybe we would be able to address these areas in the future. She also mentioned her concern that she has a parent that doesn’t know how to read or write. Mr. King then discussed various servies available that the district has in place to help get information home to the parent. (Robo calls, etc.)

o Jessica Ralston mentioned how this was the most beneficial late start since she has been employed at DCMS and that we have started working what we deemed as our top priority in the PLC/Team Leaders meetings.

o Mr. King then showed us the Education Attainment Breakdown of parents in USD443. (These results are according to the website)

Review of Grade Level Performance Criteria o Mr. King discussed how this ties into our root cause priority and when he went over these with the

PLC and Team leaders, nobody said that their students could do these except for one 8th grade ELA teacher when it came to being able to justify an answer with supporting evidence. The most concerning part is that these are 6th Grade Standards.

o We also discussed that if our students could do these skill sets then we wouldn’t struggle with state assessments.

o Wendy suggested that, as a parent, she would like to see these lists go home to parents in both English and Spanish.

o Mr. King also said that it will probably take us 3 years to get where we want to be. Review and Discussion of Rose Standards o By law, in order for the school to receive funding, we have to follow the Rose Standards. The Rose

Standards are a result of a court case that happened in Kentucky. o JoEllen discussed her concern would be the socio-economical standard (#6). o Robyn discussed that at the end of the day we are trying to make our students high-functioning

members of society.

o Sherry discussed her concern about our currently ability with the 1st standard as a whole student body and Jessica backed it up saying that if we continue to let students slide with their everyday oral communication skills, then these factors will not improve.

Other Business: Yearbook costs for books that were not purchased last year were $4,000. We are currently selling Yearbooks for $17/ea. Mr. King says we need to come up with a better plan to fund the yearbooks. PTO has funded this in the past but this year we do not have a PTO to help fund the yearbook. Suggestions from the Site Council:

Have a table set up and Music Department events and Fine Arts Night for parents to be able to purchase a yearbook.

Include yearbook fee at the back-to-school events.

Sell old yearbooks at a reduced cost.

Mike discussed that if we have 100% buy-in from our teachers, we can get many things accomplished and we need to take things a step further into a positive learning culture.

Reading of the Minutes The Minutes from the meeting held on January 25th. 2016 were approved. Stuco Report Scholars Bowl On January 7, our 8th grade scholar bowl team went 6-3 & earned 3rd place medals at Scott City The 6th & 7th grade teams earned 1st place in their round robin, going undefeated in 9 matches, beating Hays by 20 & every other team by 40 or more. Geography Bee Geography Bee will start next week in the gifted classroom and is open to students nominated by their social studies teachers and students enrolled in this quarter’s enrichment class. The top ten will compete to determine the school champion on Jan 20th and the winner will take the qualifying test to see if he/she gets to go to Abilene for the state championship. History Bee History Bee’s school wide round was completed on Monday and 10 students will be taking the Online Regional Qualifying Exam on Thursday to see if they qualify to go to the regional final in Wichita in March or April. All School Health Initiative Last year our school implemented breakfast in the classroom as one way to ensure a healthy lifestyle. This year as a part of our wellness policy we are able to carry water bottles during the school day. During the second semester of this year we are trying to increase physical activity throughout the school day. Already our 6th grade student’s walk in the gym every morning before school starts. Our 7th and 8th grade students are discussing a place to walk in the morning before school which might include the auditorium. The faculty may even join us with another type of health kick to include WorkWell. All School Communications Besides doing early morning announcements every morning we are also using our iPads to receive text messages from remind. As a part of our 21st Century learning culture each student in our school checks their e-mail two times per day for important messages or reminders. Some of our STUCO messaging for January will include information on upcoming dances, food drive, pennies for patient’s reminders, and our yearbook sales. We are also using the District text messaging services for parent reminders.

Penny for Patients Drive During the month of February we have designated a one week drive from Feb. 15 through 19 as Pennies for Patients. Our goal is to raise awareness of CANCER being a “killer” of children as well as raising funds to help find a cure for the disease. The GOAL is to raise funds so doctors and scientists can continue “learning to make someday TODAY”…by finding a cure for cancer. PTO Report We had a good response from parents when we sent out an email 2 weeks ago. They have discussed having a family night “Spring Pictures” during parent teacher conferences. Construction Timeline September 2016- Start Maker Space- Completion January 2018.

These will be straight out from the 7th/8th Grade Hall. October 2016- 6th Grade Classroom Addition- Completion January 2018.

Andrea Keck added that we are also looking at what we can turn into classrooms in the future. October 2016- Start Gym- Completion December 2017

The new locker rooms will be a storm shelter. May 2017- Start Interior Renovations- Completion December 2017. Summer School Brainology Program

Mr. King explained the brainology program and went over the handout. He discussed how this program teaches kids about how the brain and the mind work. We will see if/how it affects the students in the summer school program.

We have developed set achievement goals for ELA/Math classes. We are also planning on letting the 5th grade teachers know what we expect incoming 6th graders to be able to do. Andrea Keck added that the 5th grade curriculums don’t line up with the 6th grade.

Review of the School Improvement Process

We discussed what has been happening during our late starts and suggestions that we have gathered from the teachers. Wendy Barnett likes the idea of building a portfolio throughout the years for an end celebration/presentation in 8th Grade. We also discussed that students need to be a part of managing their own goals so that they know what it takes to be successful in college and in the real world.

Courtney Rankin wants to see things that put more responsibility on the parent. She also suggested that we have the kids give self pep-talks during advisory, or give parents the idea, about how their day will go and how they will not let negativity affect them.

Conferences

We discussed maybe having one conferences that is the traditional layout instead of student-led and the importance of seeing every teacher at conferences. We need to figure out a way around the culture rift.

The site council liked the idea of flagging teachers that need to talk to parents and said that if a serious conversation needed to happen then the teacher should reschedule a time with a parent.

Grade Level Expectations

Courtney Rankin made the comment that the grade level expectations list could become overwhelming and discussed how diagramming sentences isn’t valued in the system we are in now. (Now it is more about the process rather than the correct answer.)

We also discussed the language of mastery objectives and how they need to become about the student rather than the teachers. Other Business: Mr. King encouraged us to look through the packet that was included in the agenda.

We discussed what we thought of the late start process and what we are accomplishing. Jessica Ralston commented on how she is noticing a positive environment on teacher buy in. If you have items for next month’s agenda please contact Mr. King at 227-1610.

Stuco Report No Report PTO Report Cina Shiflet reported that they are selling Yearbooks, We only need 15 more to meet our goal and they provided a conference meal for teachers. Update on Parent Teacher Conferences - Spring 2016 (90.6%) - Spring 2015 (81%) Review and Approval Student Handbook We had 7 students and a handful of teachers serve on the handbook committee. Recommended Changes in District Student Handbook o Courtney Rankin had a question about the bullying clause and was wondering if the students will

have the freedom to speak their minds. She was worried about jumping to the punishment and not allowing the student to learn their mistakes. JoEllen Cooper stated that this was just clarifying what we expect as a school with regards to bullying. Mr. King discussed the expectation that we have and what actually constitutes bullying. Courtney feels like there is a fine line that we have to be careful about. Tricia Spencer discussed that if you are not confident in how the administration is going to handle the situation then you need to look at what school your child is attending.

o Mr. King would like the members of site council to review the data of our bullying incidents in the recent years and how it has improved. He will provide the data at our next meeting.

Recommended Changes in DCMS Student Handbook o JoEllen asked about the breakfast in the classroom. Cina said that they did not include it into the

handbook. JoEllen is concerned about having hungry students when we don’t have breakfast in the classroom. The site council suggested that we add the breakfast in the classroom policy and procedures to the addendum.

o Mr. King suggested that we publish a calendar online with need to know dates. o We need to check on the District App notifications from DCMS to make sure they are going out. o We are going to allow DCMS hoodies to be worn during the school day. For clarification, all jackets

and coats (not DCMS issued hoodies) need to be stored in lockers or cubbies.

site council members to look over the handout. He also stressed that parents be patient with teachers and assured that teachers will respond when they have time.

- Mr. King also discussed that we are not going to have the 5th to 6th grade orientation in the auditorium. Instead, he is going to each elementary school.

- Wendy Barnett brought up a question about still having a tour of the school for 6th grade with the parents. Mr. King said that any time during the summer, parents can bring up their child and have a tour.

- There will be a student panel about the ins and outs of DCMS and parents will be involved in this process as well.

Review of the School Improvement Process - Our vision is that at the end of the 8th grade, students will be able to stand in front of their parents

and show them how much they have grown throughout middle school. - Mr. King said that he is very pleased with the motivation of the teachers in our building regarding

better parent/teacher communication. - We are still trying to figure out the best way to run conferences. We are playing with the possibility

of having the fall conference be teacher-led and the spring conference is student-led. - Christina voiced her concern about how conferences were led regarding confidentiality issues with

traffic inside the room. Her suggestion would be an agenda provided to the parents over how conferences are going to look like.

- Mr. King discussed that he wants teachers to not really focus on behaviors but discuss academic growth.

Suggested Ideas on Helping Hands Program - On Site Coordinator Established Veronica Blanco - Project Coordinator Established Andrea Keck - Preview of Proposal o This is a volunteer program at DCMS and is dedicated to the belief that each student at our school

should have the opportunity to reach his or her maximum potential. o Mr. King wants to have a discussion at our next meeting about how we can get parent and

community involvement and to volunteer at the school. Come with ideas that we can do at our next meeting.

Review of Eighth Grade End of Year Ceremony - This has not yet been approved. - It is not a promotion. It is meant to be a celebration at the end of the year for 8th graders. - Tricia Spencer said she likes this idea because it celebrates success.

Review of Enriched ELA Program - This has not yet been approved. - We would like to provide advanced classes for our students that are doing well. - We need to focus on our students getting out of the “2” range and advanced to the “3 and 4” range. - The students have to continue to perform well in order to stay in the program. Tricia Spencer stated

that this will also help our students prepare for highschool.

JoEllen Cooper shared that the reason we have decreased discipline problems is because of Mr. King and his leadership in the building. Tricia Spencer also shared that she was very surprised at how much the school has changed from 2009 to now.

Mr. King shared that we just received a character award from the State. DCMS is the recipient of the Enhanced Spotlight Award for Social, Emotional and Character Development.

We are meeting the 5 R’s of the State Development Plan. We have put where we are as a building at the end of each category above.

Mr. King doesn’t think we will ever be satisfied as fully established because of a growth mindset of always improving. This will be a constant evolving process.

We are doing wonderful things right now and we really need to figure out how to rework Breakfast in the classroom.

It also looks like we are going to be changing our start time to 8:00am instead of 8:05am. Mr. King reported that he will discuss this with the BLT. This also won’t cause an issue with buses due to the current schedule with Northwest.

Other Business: Mr. King suggested we start discussing the new bus loading and unloading procedures due to the new construction that will take place in December and implement those at the beginning of the school year. Representing the school’s parents, neighborhood, community, and business/industry, the Building Site Council (BSC) provides input during every step of the growth process. The BSC reviews and provides input/feedback on the work of the Building Leadership Team (BLT). This includes needs assessment, goal area selection, goal and action plan development, evidence/data, and analysis of growth.

The Dodge City Middle School Site Council met on May 16th, 2016 in the Library Conference Room at DCMS. The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm by Courtney Rankin. Members In Attendance: Wendy Barnett, JoEllen Cooper, Mike King, Jessica Ralston, Courtney Rankin, Tricia Spencer Members Not in Attendance: Megan Estrada, Lindsey Farmer, Andrea Keck, Max Kline, Christina Haselhorst, Jamie Pedigo, Cina Shiflet, Kay Young Order of Buisness: Reading of the Minutes The Minutes from the meeting held on April 18th, 2016 were approved. Stuco Report, Natalia Soto 5th Grade Orientation: This year the 5th grade orientation was revamped. When the kids came in to DCMS they did several activities. These included: a presentation from Mr. King on how to be successful and what we believe at DCMS, a tour of the school, a video and presentation on how to stay organized and use binders, and a presentation on the gym and uniforms. Then the 5th graders got to talk with a panel of 6th graders where they got some of their questions answered. Last they got to eat lunch with a group of current 6th graders. We hope that the 5th graders are more comfortable making the transition to middle school. Teacher Appreciation: NJHS went door to door on Tuesday May 3rd. They presented each teacher will a gift and expressed their thanks for everything that they do.

Cardinal Jam Cardinals are preparing to showcase their amazing talents at this year’s Cardinal Jam. This will take place on May 19th at the beginning of the school day.

Beautification Day: STUCO and NJHS teamed up to beautify the school grounds on May 10th. We planted flowers, tended the trees, and cleaned up the trash. We also cleaned up around the stadium.

Career Day 7th and 8th graders went to the Civic Center to explore the different careers in a hands-on environment that the Elective Team had put together.

Tech: Google Cardboard IT Students put together a virtual reality presentation using the app Google Cardboard and invited DCMS students to attend.

We are starting to receive factoids from the Kansas Department of Education. It is looking like the Site Council will oversee what the Building Leadership Team is doing. We discussed the lack of a business person from Dodge City on our Site Council. Courtney Rankin is going to see if her business contact, Sam Scott, will be interested in joining the Site Council for the next school year. Mr. King also suggested looking at the list of people in the Leadership Dodge. Mr. King will send out the other FACTOIDS to the Site Council. Review New Rigor Relevance Statements

We discussed the fact that we aren’t currently meeting state requirements and this is the reason that we are starting the school day earlier next year. (8:00 instead of 8:05) We also discussed the traffic patterns will be different with the construction happening next year. There will be more information available during the summer. They are planning on working on all 3 buildings (DCMS, Soule, Northwest) at once.
