K nown across the Imperium as the Sisterhood, theAdepta Sororitas was ounded under Sebastian Thorrom amongst the Daughters o the Emperor whoollowed Alicia Dominica. The

4,000 or so sisters who survivedthe siege o the EcclesiarchsPalace were each assigned to oneo two convents: the Convent

Prioris on Terra or the ConventSanctorum on Ophelia VII. Intime, these convents grew andwere sub-divided into orders,and their members saw serviceacross the length and breadth o the Imperium.

The original Daughters o theEmperor were not exclusivelydevoted to war are, and while theirranks were swelled by warriorsduring the Reign o Blood,many scholars, philosophers,chirugeons and others remainedon San Leor, pursuing their ownesoteric endeavours. A ter theHigh Lords all, many o thesesisters were absorbed into oneo the two convents, and soonestablished their own orders.

There are two types o orderswithin the Adepta Sororitas. The

rst are the Orders Militant, threeo which are based at each o theConvents, and there are many smaller, subsidiary Lesser Orders

Militant or Orders Minoris spread across the Imperium. Thewarrior-women o the Orders Militant are commonly knownas the Sisters o Battle, and they are the direct inheritors o theorganisations ounding traditions. The Sisters o Battle havemany tasks, the greatest o which is to de end the Ecclesiarchyand the adherents o the Imperial Creed wherever andwhenever they are needed. Many great cathedrals have a smallcontingent o Battle Sisters standing guard over them, andmany pilgrim routes are regularly travelled by small missionso sisters, protecting the aith ul rom the predations o aliensand bandits. Whatever duties its sisters are engaged in, eachorder will maintain around hal its complement at its homeconvent, ready to go to war whenever the word is given.

In addition to the six main and many smaller OrderMilitant, there are many the non-militant orders. The mostwell-known o these, such as the Orders Famulous, Dialogous,and Hospitallers, are as large as the Orders Militant, but thereare countless smaller orders, some as small as a dozen or sosisters engaged upon their own highly specialised work.

The OrdershOspiTaller Sisters Hospitaller are amongst the most skilled andcompassionate surgeons in the Imperium. Their convents o tentake the orm o hospitals and retreats, and large numbers o them accompany the armies o the Imperial Guard. So skilledare the Sisters Hospitaller that they are regarded as saints by

the common soldiery, who arpre er their gentle ministrationsto the crude work undertakenby the eld surgeons o theDepartmento Munitorum.

Sisters Hospitaller o ten servein conjunction with members o other orders. Their knowledgeo genetics makes them use ul toOrders Famulous investigations,and their knowledge o thehuman body o ten leads themto accompany an Inquisitor intothe torture chamber. It is a truemeasure o their dedication to theEmperor that these supremelyskilled and compassionateindividuals are able to put asideall sel sh thoughts o theirpersonal morality and turn theirhands to inficting pain whenduty calls them to do so.

serving the Imperium o Man in many di erent roles. The,Hospitaller Alternate Starting Ranks allow a player to createa di erent kind o Sororitas character than the Battle Sister.Though these members o the Sisterhood have receivedcombat training, their talents are best used o the ront lineand thus the Ecclesiarchy and the Sororitas have access toa wide vareity o talented individuals. I a player wishes touse this Alternate Starting Rank, it must be done at charactercreation, or the option is lost. Once a character achieves RankTwo, she returns to the appropriate career or advancement.Characters rom the Order Hospitaller are treated as Adepts

or all purposes, but have specialized skills and alternativecareer ranks available to them as they progress.

The Hospitallers Book o Hours

N ovice sisters who show a gi t or healing andattending to the needs o others are o ten usheredinto the ranks o the Orders Hospitaller. Amongstthe most widely welcomed o the Adepta Sororitas, theHospitallers are sent to war zones or disaster stricken areas,providing the people o the Imperium with medical careand compassion when it is most needed. Thesesisters display incredible healing skills andcompassion towards the wounded and allen,yet remain implacable oes to the heretics,

witches, and mutants around them.Like their counterparts in the other non-militant Orders, they serve primarily insupporting roles. Where the otherOrders may advise nobles or transcribein ormation in quiet rooms, theseSororitas o ten see the atrocities o war rst-hand. They are o ten oundin battle eld hospitals onboard shipsin orbit, tending to the soldiers o the Imperial Guard. There are rareoccurrences, however, when aplatoons medic is woundedand a Hospitaller willgo into battle with thetroops to providesupport in the eld.It is these battle-hardened womenthat the Inquisition looks

or to join their retinues.Traditionally, the Order Hospitaller dresses

in light armour and healers robes that allowor easy movement. In the Calixis Sector,

all but one o the Orders Hospitaller have

some sort o crimson and bone coloringon their robes to mark them as medicalsta . The Order o Quiet Sorrow onSigurd IV alone wears a black andbone colour scheme in penitence ora past ailing.

h ospitallers in the C alixis s eCtor

In the Calixis Sector, the Hospitallers have an exceptionallygood relationship with the Imperial Guard. Their e orts havesaved millions o lives and no place more than on Tranchwith the sisters at the Sainted Encarmine Hospital. In thatnever-ending civil war, the Sororitas have provided solace orthe wounded and dying and have even taken up arms uponoccasion to de end the hospital. When the Shroud Councilattempted to make a statement by taking the hospital by orce,they were surprised to nd battle-ready warriors de endingit, wielding their patients autoguns and lasguns. Needless tosay, the attack was repelled rather quickly.

Second in size to the Order Famulous, the Sisters Hospitallerare very valuable to the Ecclesiarchy because o the aith theyinspire. Many a jaded soldier has embraced the Imperial Creedmore devoutly a ter a Sister Hospitaller saved his li e. As a resulto this personal contact with units o soldiers and o cers, they

can also provide the Imperial Guard with advance warning o emerging problems with morale or heretical ideas among

the troops. The bedside execution o cult leader Silas

Grimm by a Hospitaller novitiate during the MiningRiots on Pellucida IX is a staunch reminder thatheretics have no place in the leadership o good men. His taint orced the Inquisitionto purge one-third o a division o troopsand burn down the barracks in which theylived. The remaining troops then served

with distinction in quelling the riotsollowing the purge.

One o the other more discreettasks the Hospitallers per ormis that o sampling geneticmaterial rom the nobility. Doneas a precautionary measure, these

Sororitas o ten work hand inhand with the Order Famulous toprevent inbreeding and to ensurethat mutations are not passedona signi cant problem on

worlds with a high incedence o mutation such as Feral Worlds, Pleasure

Worlds, and Mal .

The Sisters Hospitaller are reputed to be the gentle armo the Adepta Sororitas, though in many ways this is ar

rom the truth. As healers, doctors, and spiritual counsellors,they are peerless among the Orders. They are, however,still willing and able de enders o the Imperial Creed readyto crush the li e rom a heretic, mutant, or alien threat. AHospitallers convictions, like those o her ellow sisters, arerooted in their desire to de eat the enemies o the Emperorwithout hesitation. Those deserving o her assistance willreceive it without hesitation. Likewise, those undeserving willeither not receive any care or will be sped along to meet theEmperor ace-to- ace or nal judgement. It is or this reasonthat Sisters Hospitaller cannot be utilised in the interrogationcells at the Tricorn as con rmed heretics tend to die in theircare prior to divulging in ormation.

Among the teeming billions o the aith ul, a rare hand ul o individuals are truly touched by the God-Emperors divinehand. These servants are shielded rom the power o warp by the blessed light o Terra and their own unwavering aithin the destiny and righteousness o the Master o Mankind.

Characters with this Talent gain access to the ollowing abilities: They are completely immune to Daemonic Presence and are unaffected by it. They may spend a Fate Point to ignore a Fear Test (see page 232 in the D ark H eresy Rulebook). They must do so

as soon as the Fear Test would be required and be ore any rolls are made. They may spend a Fate Point to avoid gaining Insanity or Corruption for an encounter, as determined by the GM. They may burn a Fate Point to ignore the effects of a single daemonic psychic attack that effects them. They must

do so as soon as the power mani ests, be ore they make any rolls to resist or any o the powers e ects are applied.

h ospitaller C arapaCe

O ten serving in combat zones, Sisters Hospitaller require moreprotection than other Non-militant Orders. The distinctive armouris a welcome sight to injured guardsmen and Acolytes alike, anangel o mercy sent by the God-Emperor himsel . In addition toits protective qualities, the hooded habit is o ten coated in incenseand unguents and the rest o the armour is sealed and treatedagainst toxins. This grants the wearer a +20 to resist toxins ordiseases that do not penetrate the armour (such as a poison dart)and a +10 on any Fear Test with an ol actory component (such asrotting bodies). The helm incorporates a re-breather.

The Order Hospitaller equips its Sisters with the

best battle eld medicine tools ound outside theApothecaries o the Adeptus Astartes. The kit hasa variety o sacred oils, unguents, surgical tools, andsterilisers to help those who lay wounded in battle.

The Hospitaller Medicae Tools count as a medkit,2 doses o De-tox, and 2 doses o Stimm. In additionthe Sister Hospitaller may amputate a damage limb(or what remains) and inject a cocktail o drugsthat provide succour and cauterises the wound. Theamputation is a Hard (-10) Medicae Test. I success ulthe patient is missing the limb but removes all othere ects caused by damage to the limb, including Fatigue,Blood Loss and (per GM discretion) heals 1d5 woundssu ered in the loss o the limb.

C haplet e CClesiastiCUs

Every member o the Adepta Sororitas carries a ChapletEcclesiasticus either around her neck or her waist. Eachadamantium bead serves as a reminder o an act o penitence,but in the case o very experienced Sisters each bead couldrepresent many more such acts. A Sister who openlydisplays her Chaplet Ecclesiasticus may re-roll any ailedCharm Tests made against members o the Ecclesiarchy whoare o equal or lower status (as determined by the GM).

Designed to cause minor discom ort when twisted, the ring o su rage is treated as a charm and is o ten used by Sisters whowish to petition their superiors within the Calixis Sector.

FaiTh TalenTsThe Adepta Sororitas have access to power ul aith talentsthat allow the Sisters to per orm miraculous deeds.

F aith t alent : g raCe

The child o the man holds within him the seed o the God-Emperors divinity, which may be nurtured and grown onlythrough the power o true aith. With this Talent the aith ulimparts a ragment o his divine connection to the God-Emperor onto his allies, blessing them with a power ul Graceto shape their destiny and protect them rom harm.

Prerequisites: Pure Faith Effect: The aith ul can choose to share his Fate Pointswith his allies, allowing him to spend a Fate Point to allow

an ally that he can see to re-roll a ailed test. In additionto this e ect the aith ul also enhances his own atand will recover any Fate Points used in this encounter(including the one spent to activate this Talent) on a

1d10 roll o 8, 9 or 10. I the aith ul is a Void Born

this roll replaces the roll rom the Charmed Trait(see page 21 in the D ark H eresy Rulebook).This Talent only works on humans (i.e. not

mutants, xenos etc) and only on those with 20 orewer Corruption Points.

F aith t alent : m artyr s g iFt

Only through pain and blood is the body madepure, its ragile fesh made whole throughthe sacri ce o the aith ul and the tears o the

willing martyr. With this Talent the aith ul canheal the injured, knitting together bloody fesh andmending splintered bones. Such a great gi t comes

with a heavy price however, and or every cut or rendthe aith ul restores he will himsel su er a similar wound

Prerequisites: Pure FaithEffect: The aith ul can heal wounded creatures by

laying on his hands and taking their injuries onto himsel .This is a Full Action and requires the subject to remainper ectly still (i.e. they may take no actions themselves). The

aith ul can then trans er any amount o Damage rom thsubject to themselves at ratio o 1:1. The aith ul can also

trans er Critical Damage rom the subject in the same way,su ering 5 wounds or each Critical e ect healed while th

subject will be miraculously healed o them.Note that it is entirely possible or the aith ul to killhimsel i he uses this Talent to heal multiple criticallywounded subjects. I the aith ul su ers critical damage rohealing it is considered energy damage.
