  • Using the Actions Region

    To email your entire class or a single student • Open/launch your email application (such as Novell GroupWise or Outlook).NOTE: In order to send an email to an entire class, you must use an email address established in

    SIS. • In the Email row of the Actions region, click the Entire Class link to email your entire class.• To email a single student, click the student’s email address from your course roster.• Type your email and click Send.

    To establish your email address in SIS • In the Email row of the Actions region, click the Options link.• Click Add.

    • In the yellow field, type the email address that you wish to use when sending emails to the entireclass.• Click Save.• A message appears confirming that your email address was saved successfully. You must wait 2hours before using this new email address.

    To view additional course information • In the Details row of the Actions region, click the Faculty link to see the names of the individualswho are responsible for teaching the class and grading the students.• Click the Class Information link to see when and where the class is scheduled to take place.

    To download and print your course roster • In the Download row of the Actions region, click the Excel Roster link or the PDF Roster(printer friendly) link.• Follow the prompts to save the roster to your computer.• Open the document and select Print.

    To upload grades via Excel spreadsheet

  • • Use the Term and Class drop-downs to select the course that you want to grade.• In the Upload row of the Actions region, click the Grade via Excel Spreadsheet link.The Populate Grades via Excel Spreadsheet Upload region appears.NOTE: Your spreadsheet must contain at least two columns, ID and Grade.

    • Click Browse.• Navigate to the Excel file on your computer and select it. Click Open.The field beside the Browse button is updated with the path and file name for your Excel document.

    • Click the Upload button.A message appears indicating that the upload was successful.

    • Update any invalid grades by selecting a value from the Grade drop-down.• Click Save Work to save your grades and continue grading.• Click Post to Registrars to submit final grades. You will not be able to change grades in SIS after you click Post to Registrars.

    To grade a course roster in SIS To grade a roster, begin by using the Term and Class drop-downs to select the course that you want to grade.

    NOTE: SIS only displays the Save Work, Clear All Grades and Post to Registrars buttons during valid grading periods.

  • • Use the drop-downs in the Notes To Registrar column to indicate whether a student never attended or stopped attending your course.• Use the drop-downs in the Grade column to select a grade for each student.NOTE: SIS allows you to grade a portion of your students during a session. You can then come

    back at a later date to finish the grading process. At the end of your first session, click the Save Work button before logging out. When you click the Save Work button, YOU ARE NOT POSTING THE GRADES. You are simply saving your work for the time being.

    • When you have graded all of the students in the course, click Post to Registrars to submit yourofficial grades to the Registrar’s Office. In addition, the grades that you entered will no longer be editable. NOTE: To change a grade after you have clicked the Post to Registrars button, you must submit an

    official grade change request to the Registrar’s Office.

    To use additional SIS features

    Use the three links located at the top right-hand hand side of the screen to do the following: • Click help if you need additional assistance.• Click give feedback if you have comments about the site or suggestions for improvement, and would like to share your thoughts.• Click password to navigate to the myJohnsHopkins portal to change your JHED password.• Click logout to logout of SIS for Faculty.

You may access the SIS for Faculty system via this web site: https://sis.jhu.edu. To sign on to SIS for Faculty, you will need your JHED login ID (LID) and password. Your JHED LID is a unique identifier for your information in the Johns Hopkins University Enterprise Directory. Every faculty member is provided with a JHED LID. If you don't know your JHED LID or password, visit the Johns Hopkins University Enterprise Directory at https://my.johnshopkins.edu. Click the First Time Logon tab (located on the upper left side of the screen), and then follow the directions provided. You can also contact the Help Desk at 410-516-HELP.
