School Mission The Main Street Elementary family which includes

students, parents, teachers, staff, and community is dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment where children are first, expectations are high, and everyone works together as a learning community. At MSE, we are “Doing What’s Right Today for a Better Tomorrow!”

Main Street Elementary School serves students in grades 3-5 with approximately 455 students. Approximately 94% receive free and reduced lunch.

National Network of Partnership SchoolsMain Street Elementary School is a member of Johns Hopkins University of National Network of Partnership Schools (NNPS). The NNPS School, Family, and Community Partnership model is designed to enhance parent

participation and involvement in the school and community. The model is research based and references six types of involvement: parenting, communicating, volunteering, student learning, decision-making, and collaborating with the community.

The home-school partnership is a crucial element in our children’s education. We know that it s important to provide a nurturing environment where all who enter feel safe and welcomed by all members of the school staff. It is our desire to foster and support an active involvement program for parents, students, and community members.

It takes a village to raise a child. At Main Street Elementary, we recognize the fact that all aspects of a child’s education involve the school, family, and community in this partnership and encompasses the entire time a child is in school as well as when they are home and in the community. One Village is a Community Partnership Program with the goal of forming a network in an effort to teach our children to value life and to value learning. As a Community we have a common goal of ensuring that our children grow up to be productive citizens who are able to effectively contribute to the workforce, as well as, work to improve our community.

Our program theme is One Village; Value, Influence, Listen, Lead, Actively Guide & Educate.

The vision of One Village is to form partnerships with neighboring churches, businesses, organizations and individuals to improve the academic achievement, social behavior and personal development of our children. A secondary goal is to provide parents with available resources that our community members have to offer.

By forming strong partnerships between the school, the parents and the community, we all work together to contribute to the development of our most important asset, our students. At MSE, we are “Doing What’s Right Today for a Better Tomorrow…”

Main Street Elementary will provide opportunities to promote, increase and support parent knowledge and involvement in the educational process of the student, both socially and academically. We hope to increase communication efforts about the school program and the student’s progress. Increasing the opportunities for parents, and community members to help and support the school by providing and integrating all available resources is another area of focus for our school. Involving parents in the decision making process, and providing information and ideas to help students with curriculum-related activities, decisions, and planning is of vital importance to us. We feel that with a combined effort, Main Street Elementary will become a hub for parenting resources for the parents of the school and for the community it serves. The plan will be evaluated yearly and adjustments will be made to continue to increase the goal of improved parent/community/school relations. We have several major focuses planned in order to accomplish the above-mentioned objectives. These are:

Increase the quality and quantity of parent meetings (Family nights, Goal setting meetings, Curriculum Nights, Principal’s Munch and Mingle Meetings, etc.) throughout the year to inform parents of the school plan, to keep them updated on the progress of the plan, and to plan, review, and ask for suggestions and help in the development of the school plan and other school programs and the expenditure of funds from those areas.

Increase the amount of feedback from parents and community members through the use of “Parent Perspective” forms, surveys, suggestion boxes, school nine weeks report cards, conferences, school-wide planning meetings, etc.

Provide information to parents on school and community happenings. This will be done through the Panther Pride (a monthly school newsletter), weekly Panther Updates using the School Messenger System, monthly teacher newsletters, Title I School-wide Planning Committee/SIC/PTO and Family Night meetings, achievement information, and parent/teacher conferences, daily agendas, School Messenger calls, the school’s website, the school’s Parent Resource Center, and posted events

Implement a PrinciPALS program to encourage students to work cooperatively with their peers and teachers.

2, 3 All Year 3rd-5th Teachers nominate students based on positive attitude, motivation, character, leadership skills, and behavior. Once the student’s name is submitted to the office, the student’s parent is contacted to congratulate him/her. The student’s pictures will be displayed on the “PrinciPALS” bulletin board and they will be invited to eat lunch with the principal.

Pawsitive Panther Referral 2 All Year 3rd-5th Each teacher refers a student to the office for a “Pawsitive Panther Referral”. Administrators and the Guidance Counselor will make positive phone calls to parents. Students are also highlighted both on the Pawsitive Panther Referral Board and via the afternoon announcements.
