School background SCHOOLVISIONSTATEMENT SCHOOLCONTEXT SCHOOLPLANNINGPROCESS

We are a forward-thinking school aiming to prepare ourstudents for a rapidly changing world by equipping themwithcriticalthinkingskills,globalperspective,andinstillingthe core values of respect, responsibility, pride, andexcellence in learning. Studentswill succeed todayandbepreparedfortomorrow.

Singleton High School is a large comprehensive rural highschool intheHunternetworkofpublicschools.Theschoolhasacomprehensivecurriculumofferingadiverserangeoftraditional subjects and dual accredited vocationaleducation (VET) courses. Students are provided access toTAFEdeliveredVET coursesat SingletonTAFE through theSingletonEducationPrecinctandaspartofSingletonTradeSkills Centre. The school is a Centre for Hospitality,ConstructionandPrimaryIndustries.Theschoolhasaverystrong sporting ethos with consistent Regional, State &Nationalrepresentation.The school's focus is to enhance the educationalopportunities for all students. To this end we havedeveloped explicitmodels ofQuality Teaching,models forimproving literacy and numeracy and innovations inauthentic assessment for Year 10. Gifted and talentedstudents are catered for in a well established Stage 4EnrichmentClassProgram.Movingforward,thecreationofPersonalisedLearningPlansfor identifiedstudentsandtheimplementationofarigorousanddifferentiatedcurriculumandassessmentprogramarekeygoals.There is a 10%enrollment ofAboriginal studentswho aresupportedthroughadesignatedExecutivestaffmemberandAboriginalWorkers involved in YINPI andKaWulprogramsrun from the KaWul Aboriginal Education and ResourceCentre. These Programs are winners of the Dare 2 LeadNational Award. KaWul also run a Homework Centre andNortaNortatutoring.SingletonHighSchoolcontinuestofosterstrongfriendshiplinkswithsisterschoolsinTakahata,Japanwhereweshareinreciprocalculturalandstudyexchanges.

Professional development afternoonswere inclusive of allstaff, teachers, SASS, and support. Analysis of schoolhistorical data on attendance, retention, suspension,student recognition, N Award warnings, HSC results, andNAPLAN results formed a platform for participants tocritically respond to a targeted survey on future schoolstrategic direction. Key documents such as Local SchoolsLocalDecisions,GreatTeaching InspiredLearning,andTheMelbourneDeclarationonEducationalGoals featuredasacritical documents that informedandguidedourdecision-making. Student leaders and representatives were led inguided discussions and workshops on improving studentconnection and learning at Singleton High School. Criticalfeedbackforschoolplanningwasgatheredandcompiledintheseworkshops.Communitymembersandaround20localbusinessescontributedbycompletingasurveythatassistedin creating a clear vision whilst simultaneously improvingschool and community connections. The planning processhas sought direction and guidance from the AboriginalEducationConsultativeGroupandhasstructuredworkshopsto ensure that Aboriginal leaders have a clear and strongvoiceintheformationofschoolpriorities.Adiverseteamofstaffhavethenbeenworkingtoconstructthe Strategicplan, keepingkey stakeholders informedandensuringthattheprocessisclearandtransparent.
