    PROPER GUN HANDLINGYou m ay be fam iliar w ith the respon sibi l i ties of proper gun handling, but the fact thatyour Daisy Model 8 is a .22 cal. r imfire f i rearm, means that extra care and caution is re-quired. In rev iewing DAISY'S RULES FOR GUN SAFETY, keep in mind that "Handling"means EVERY TIME YOU TO UC H YO UR GUN. Fai lure to fol low these rules, or other in-struct ions in this manua l , may result in serious injury or death.

    DAISY'S RULES FOR GUN SAFETY1. Handle every gun as you would i f i t were loaded and cocke d.2. Keep the safety ON SAFE until you are ready to shoot.3. Be sure of your target before you shoot,4. Be fore target shooting , be sure you have an ad eq ua te back stop. Re m em ber, al l ri fleammunition is dangerous at ranges up to and in excess of a mile.5 . Never point a gun at anything you don't intend to shoot.6. Alw ays we ar protect ive glasse s w hen shooting and w ear hearing protect ion when targetshooting.7. Use only amm unition of the corre ct caliber, size and b ullet shape and do not use modified,damaged or dirty ammunition.8. Avoid r icochets by never shooting at water, or any hard, f lat surfaces.9. Be sure no one is in the pa th of ejec ting she lls.

    10. Never c l imb or jump over an obstac le or climb a tree or fence w i th a loaded gun.11. Never pull a gun toward you by the muzzle.12. Avoid a lcohol ic beverages before and during shooting.13. Never use a gun that fails to func t ion p roper ly . Do not try to force a jammed act ion.14. Be sure to keep the barrel and mechanism f ree of obst ruc t ions .15. Before c lean ing, be sure the cham ber, act ion and magazine are comp letely unloaded.16. Always unload a gun before leaving it unattended, and before leaving a hunting areaor target range.17. Never enter a dwel l ing or motor vehicle with a loaded gun.18.     Step 1. OPEN BOLTRotate the bolt handle upward about 50 de gree s, then pull the bolt briskly to the rear,until it stops. The gun cannot f i re w i th th e bolt open (see Drawing No. 2 ) .

    Step 2. LOADM&WARNING: Before load ing this fi rearm , ALW AY S C HECK THE BORE to be sure itis f ree of grease, oil or any other obstruct ion. Be sure the-bo l t is open and the chamberis empty.

    Insert a fres h cartridg e, bullet f i rst, in to the chamber (see Drawing No. 3 ) .

    FAILURE TO EXTRACT CARTRIDGEI f the bolt has been opened and the cartr idg e has fai led to extrac t, keep the gun pointedin a safe direct ion and adhere to the fo llow ing procedu re :

    LIVE (UNFIRED) CARTRIDGEWith th e bolt ful ly open, reach into th e receiver area with your index f inger and withyour fingernail, pull th e cartr idge from th e chamber .

    FIRED (SPENT) CARTRIDGE CASEYou may be able to use the procedure descr ibed a bove . However , th e car t r idge casem ay have expanded s l ight ly , caus ing the case to st ick in the chamber . In this case, a thinpocket kn i fe blade or thin f lat screw dr iver b lade ma y have to be inser ted betw een the faceof the barrel and the case r im, to pull i t f rom the c ham be r. A cleaning rod can also be usedto push th e case from th e chamber .FAILURE TO FIRE

    If the gu n fa i ls to f ire after fo l lowin g the ope rat ing ins t ruct ions, po int the r i f le in a safedirect ion and open the bolt as in Step 1, to un load. C hamber a f resh round and again pro-ceed through Steps 3 through 6 .HO W TO REMOVE AND REINSTALL THE BOLT

    With the gun unloaded and the muzzle po inted in a safe direct ion, ful ly open th e bolt,hold th e t r i gger completely pulled to the rear and wi thdraw th e bolt from th e rece iver of ther i f le. Reinstal l th e bolt by completely pulling th e t r igger and inserting th e bolt fully into th ereceiver.UNDERPOWERED SHOTS AND/OR OBSTRUCTED BOREWARNING; You can te l l when a shot is unde rpowe red by the unusually lo w reportit m ak es. This can result in a bullet being lodged in the bore. An obstructed bore can occurif the cartridge you have fired contains insuff icient powder, none at all, or if the powder failsto ignite.

    Mud or snow can also cause an obs t ruc ted bore .Should any of these condit ions occur, or if for any other reason you suspect an obstructedbore, to preven t personal in jury or d a m a g e to the g u n , DO NOT FIRE AGAIN AND DO NOTRELOAD.You must unload th e gun, remove th e bolt and look through th e bore from th e breech(cham ber) en d. If the bore is obst ruc ted , insert a prop er s ize clean ing rod (wi thout t ip) f romeither end of the barre l and push the obstruct ion out. If the obstruc t ion cannot be removedby tapping th e rod, take the gun to a qual i f ied gunsmi th.After removal of the obstruct ion, c lean the bore and check it for damage. If damageis noted, seek the advice and se rv ice s of a com pe tent gu nsm i th.

    SIGHTING THE RIFLEYour rifle has been test - f i red but was not sighted-in at the f ac to ry . Due to individualshooting characterist ics, the rifle should be sighted-in and range v erif ied. Your rifle is equippedwith a ful ly adjustable rear s ight.

    HOW TO ADJUST SIGHT RIGHT OR LEFT (WINDAGE):Loosen screw "A" by turn ing counte rc lockw ise (see Drawing No. 4) . Move th e rears ight towa rd the right side of the gun to move the point of impact to the right or toward theleft side of the gun to move th e point of impact to the lef t . Re-t ighten screw "A " af terad jus tment .

    HOW TO ADUST S5GHT UP OR DOWN (ELEVATION):Raise the rear sight by m oving the sight elev ato r to the rea r, to move the point of im-pact up. Lower the rear sight by moving the sight elevator forward, to move the point ofimpact down (See Drawing No. 5 ) .

    CLEANINGWARNING: Before a t tempt ing to clean your rif le, make certain that it is unloaded andthe bolt is removed .

    With normal use, it is not necessary to f requ en t l y c lean the bore of the ri f le. How ever,if the rif le gets wet or if foreign material gets into the action or barrel, cleaning is recom-mended as fo l lows:

    C lean the bore by using a comm erc ia l ly ava i lab le .22 cal. c leaning rod and patches.Use pow der solvent on the patches until the bore is clean then l ightly oil the bore by apply-ing the oi l to a patch and passing i t completely through the bore.Remove a ll moisture and w ipe down a ll meta l su r faces of the barrel , receiver and boltwith a clean, l ightly oiled cloth.C lean th e stock, buttplate and gr ipcap w i th a soft, w ater m oisten ed cloth, then dry offmoisture w i th a dry cloth. L ight ly oil. a ll screw heads w i th gun oil.NOTE: The barreled action may be removed f rom the stock, to facil i tate cleaning, byremova l of two stock sc rews.

    STORAGELightly oil the bore, b arre l , bolt and rece iver w i th gun oil. The r i f le must be unloadedand uncocked and stored in a dry area. Never store your gun in a carrying case.

    CAUTION: For maximu m safety , s tore the ammunition and bolt in a seperate loca-t ion, out of the reach of chi ldren and untra ined persons.
