It has been another great year at Books For Africa. As we look back on 2005, wesee many accomplishments in our continuing efforts to ship more and moredonated books to schools and libraries in Africa, and we are pleased to providethis status report to you in the annual report. Specifically, in 2005 Books ForAfrica shipped 64 containers (roughly 1.6 million books) valued at approxi-mately $10.6 million to 15 African countries! We appreciate the support of ourmany financial and book donors in accomplishing these goals. Thank you!

A Story About a Container of Books
Books For Africa shipped 64 containers ofbooks last year. Each container has a story.
Here is the story of a shipment of books sent toSacred Heart Seminary in Gulu, Uganda throughthe special efforts of Pete Truax, Dan Vaughan andother supporters of Sacred Heart Seminaryworking in Minnesota.
After a successful shipment of books in 2004,including enormous logistical challenges inshipping into war-torn northern Uganda, the needfor more books was still tremendous. Supporters, were determined in the United Statesto send another container to aid the children ofnorthern Uganda afflicted by war. On September 1,2005, at a special reception in St. Paul, Minnesotafor U.S. Ambassador to Uganda Jimmy Kolkerattended by Monsignor Matthew Odong of SacredHeart Seminary, it was announced that funds hadbeen raised ($11,000) for the shipment of a secondcontainer.
The Sacred Heart Seminary newsletter notedthat “On October 3rd the second 40’ container ofbooks through Books For Africa left St. Paul forGulu. The first container provided books to overthirty schools. We hope to continue theseshipments until we can satisfy the needs of all theschools in northern Uganda. Msgr. Matthew alsoasked for books on philosophy and theology foruse in the seminary. Several individuals providedthese religious books. One of them was ArchbishopHarry Flynn who donated 30 grocery bags of booksfrom his personal library that he felt would beexcellent resource material for the library at theseminary.”
Tom Warth, Books For Africa’s founder, continues his walk across Minnesota from
Canada to Iowa. Tom’s walk has raised over $26,000for Books For Africa. Tom has currently reachedHastings, Minnesota and will continue on his trekthis Spring after returning from climbing MountKilimanjaro in Tanzania with a BFA delegation.
Pictured are a group of supporters who walkedwith Tom to the steps of the Minnesota statecapitol.
