    U.K. Nationwide and Regional Outlook

    HIGHLIGHTS

Job vacancies up 1.7% over last month. We received mixed news this month when the Office

for National Statistics reported that unemployment dropped to 2.5 million on the quarter

during the same period that the number claiming jobseekers allowance rose by 12,400, said

SimplyHired.co.uk CEO Gautam Godhwani. Fortunately, we can report that were seeing a 1.7%

increase in job vacancies in the UK in May, with more than 650,000 open roles nationwide.

Cardiff and Nottingham see largest drop in job vacancies. May was a disappointing month for

Cardiff and Nottingham. Not only did both cities see teams lose out in the Championship Play-

Off Semi-Finals mid-month, they saw the largest decreases in job vacancies nationwide, down

    -29.0% and -26.7% respectively.

Reading experiences largest gains in job vacancies. In keeping with the football trend, both

Championship Play-Off finalists Reading and Swansea saw significant job gains. Despite losing

the match, Reading experienced Mays biggest upswing with an 18.6% increase in new jobs to

    Swanseas 5.9% increase.
