Using the results from the survey, we conducted small group discussion to discern the “needs” and “wants” of the congregation. With that information, the Committee, along with a few additional Parishioners, completed a detailed Parish Portfolio including 12 standardized questions. In addition to the Portfolio, a Parish Profile, was also required to post our Rector opening with the National Episcopal Church. With the great help of Carlile Crutcher and his daughter Edith Bush, they developed an outstanding video. All of this information was posted for 60 days (June 3-August 3). We are now receiving candidates for our Rector position! Each candidate submits a packet of information including resume, cover letter and their Ministry Portfolio. Each packet of information is 15-20 pages long. As of August 25, 2015, the Committee has received two (2) batches of candidates, with more to come. Personally, I am excited that everyone’s hard work and commitment is paying off with the number of Priests applying of our Rector position. The Committee will continue to provide updates on out journey to fine the right Rector. Faithfully yours, David B. James Chair, Rector Search Committee

For the past two months we

have been working as a Congregation

with the Diocese Pastoral Response Team addressing the former rector, Wayne Yeager in several disclosure meetings. The next step will be to have a sacred conversation looking back on the leadership during Charles Hawkins’ tenure. Please join us Sunday, September 20, 12:00 P.M. for this discussion. We will gather following Church School, eat a quick lunch which will be provided and start the meeting at 12:30 p.m.

As part of our Adult Christian Education, The Rev. Whit

Stodghill will lead a series of classes using the book People of the Way, Renewing Episcopal Identity, By Dwight J. Zscheile. This class will begin September 20. The book will be available in the church office if you wish to purchase for $15.00. Did you know… A newspaper article from 1906, stated that St. Mark’s Episcopal Mission Church was considered the “smallest church in the world.” St. Matthew’s of Madison, Ohio had originally claimed the title by measuring their church building to be 24 feet by 48 feet long. Upon hearing this declaration, St. Mark’s congregation disputed the findings announcing our Mission church to be 26 feet by 40 feet long. Thereby giving St. Mark’s the title of “smallest church in the world.”

125th Anniversary

Celebration The 125th Anniversary Committee will be reaching out to past and present parishioners of St. Mark’s. Help them by completing the enclosed questionnaire. The goal is to compile information for church records that will be used as part of our 125th Celebration. The Committee continues to reach out for volunteers willing to spend a few hours gathering and documenting the information that will be used in the celebration and thereafter, archived for future generations.

Spirit of Crescent Hill Awards and Dessert with the

Mayor will be hosted at St. Mark’s on Thursday, September 3, 6:30 P.M. St. Mark’s as well as our own parishioner, Stephanie Miller will be among the recipients of the Crescent Hill Spirit Awards. Please try to attend. Bring a dessert to share.

The Book Nook September 17, 7:00 P.M. the Book Nook will gather in the parlor to discuss Major Pettigrew's Last Stand: A Novel by Helen Simonson. You are about to travel to Edgecombe St. Mary, a small village in the English countryside filled with rolling hills, thatched cottages and a cast of characters both hilariously original and as familiar as the members of your own family. The book for October 15 will be Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.

Foyers Dinners The Foyer Groups started the season with a Luau dinner Saturday evening, August 22. Everyone was invited to attend the kick off event in order for all to experience a Foyers Dinner. The Foyer Groups were established to build community among adult parishioners by coming together once a month for dinner. In order to make these dinners more accessible to all, a new format has been set in place. Each month small groups of approximately 10 people gather to enjoy a pot luck dinner at either the church or someone’s home. Those wishing to host a dinner at their home or use the church as a dinner site are encouraged to let the office know for scheduling. Our goal is to increase the number of parishioners participating in this ministry. Please consider this invitation to either host a dinner or simply attend dinners as a way to get to know your fellow St. Markers. If you are interested in learning more about the Foyer groups or would like to attend a dinner, please contact Marti Taber at the church office at 895-2429. Remember you do not have to host a party in order to be part of the Foyer Groups. Foyers Luau Night
