OCTOBER 14 – Departure from Canada on overnight flight.

OCTOBER 15 – Arrival in Catania. Upon arrival at the Catania airport, you will be met and transferred to Siracusa, your home base for the first half of the tour. The remainder of the day is at leisure to freshen up, rest or simply enjoy your surroundings. Tonight, we officially welcome you Italy’s spectacular east coast with dinner in a typical Sicilian restaurant. D

OCTOBER 16 – Siracusa. Spend the day exploring the beautiful town of Siracusa. During your guided tour, you will begin to learn about the rare treasure of temples and amphitheaters surrounding the edge of the city, and you will begin to see the Greek influence. Stroll the picturesque, winding streets and elegant piazzas, slowly making your way to the truest taste of Sicily with a visit to a historic “Salumeria”. Sit down to a true Sicilian lunch of cold cuts, cheeses and the famous “caponata”. The remainder of the afternoon and evening is at leisure. B, L

OCTOBER 17 – Scicli, Ragusa and Modica. Make your way off the beaten track today to Scicli, a town in the south-east end of Sicily that boasts beautiful baroque architecture and has been declared a Unesco World Heritage site. It is in Scicli, that you will visit Gli Aromi, an amazing and inspiring local herb farm, where the owners will share their passion for local herbs and spices. Enjoy a wonderful lunch and cooking lesson where the primary ingredients are fresh, local and grown with an abundance of love. Afterwards, you will make your way to the nearby Baroque towns of Ragusa and Modica to discover the narrow streets and many old workshops. Modica is famous for their chocolate, which is a simple, but ancient Aztec recipe of hand ground cocoa beans and sugar. Enjoy the rest of the evening at leisure. B, L

OCTOBER 18 – Noto and Marzamemi. Situated at the foot of the Hyblaean Mountains, south of Siracusa, the town of Noto was entirely rebuilt after a tragic earthquake in 1693. Stunningly beautiful, baroque and important for both its’ history and architecture, this town has been named a Unesco World Heritage Site. Here you will meet, Corrado Assenza, master of Sicilian pastry, who will delight you with his creations. On the way back, you will visit the charming fishing village of Marzamemi where time seems to stand still. Sample tuna straight from the sea, over a delicious local lunch. Evening at leisure. B, L

OCTOBER 19 – Catania. Today you are on your way to Catania, Sicily’s second largest city, situated between the Lonian Sea and the Majestic Mount Etna. Strangely romantic, with its’ striking black and white architecture, you will learn about the recovery of this city from a violent volcanic eruption in 1669. The city was busy rebuilding for years, and is famous for its’ integration of the black lava remnants combined with limestone, creating a unique look. In the heart of the city, you will visit a lively “Pescheria”, a traditional fish and vegetable market where we will enjoy a typical lunch. Afterwards, a lovely drive to Taormina where you will enjoy the next few nights. Evening at leisure. B, L

OCTOBER 20 – Mount Etna. Mount Etna is an important part of Italy’s topography, and a Unesco World Heritage Site, not to mention, simply gorgeous. Worlds away from the lazy beaches and fishing villages of the rest of the island, Mount Etna boasts the most otherworldly scenery in Italy with its’ lunar landscapes of black and white – and it’s still active. In fact, it’s Europe’s tallest active volcano and one of the most active volcanoes in the world! After all that excitement, did you think we would forget a winery stop? For lunch today, you will visit a local wine producing estate, where you will enjoy a fabulous tasting and lunch. Remainder of the afternoon and evening is at leisure. B, L

OCTOBER 21 – Taormina. An entire day at your own pace to explore Taormina on your own. Perched proudly above the sea, this town has it all! Stunning views, ancient ruins, and winding medieval streets with tiny quaint passages and shops. Relax in a café and watch the world go by, spend some time by the sea, ride the famous cable car, or immerse yourself in history. This day is as you wish, because after all, it’s “Simply Sicily”. Kick back and celebrate a fabulous adventure this evening with a farewell dinner, Sicilian style! B, D

OCTOBER 22 – Return to Canada. Your Sicilian adventure comes to an end today, with memories to last a lifetime. Transfer to the airport in time for the group departure flight. B
