What is a Simple Machine?Simple machines are tools that make work easier.  They have few or no moving parts.  These machines use energy to work.

There are six simple machines: • a lever• a pulley• a screw • a wheel and axle • a wedge • an inclined plane

A Bike is a Compound Machine.

Screws are used to hold the pieces together.

The wheel of a bicycle is a wheel and axle.

The pedals are also examples of this simple machine.

The pedals are attached to a lever that turns a pulley.

The gear shifts and brake handles are levers.

Identify the Simple Machine

A simple machine that lessens the force needed to attach two or more things.

A simple machine with a slanting surface that is used to make lifting easier.

A moveable inclined plane used to makesplitting or separating an object easier.

Identify the Simple Machine

A rope or a chain wrapped around a wheel and axle used to make lifting easier.

A simple machine that has a wheel that turns around an axle used to make

work easier.

A simple machine that has a bar that turns around a fulcrum, making lifting

and moving easier.
