1st The Inca conquer other native groups and become a great empire.
2nd 1532 - Francisco Pizarro shows up, conquers the Inca and claims the area for Spain.
3rd Once the area is part of the “New World”, colonists show up and Spain rules.
Enter – Simon Bolivar
• Born 1783 in Caracas, Venezuela to an aristocratic family
• Educated by private tutors until the age of 15
• In 1799 he was sent to finish his education in Spain

• While in Europe, Bolivar witnessed Napoleon’s rise to power
• Bolivar had no respect for Napoleon as a leader• 1807 - Bolivar returned to Venezuela• 1808 - Napoleon makes his brother King of
Spain creating many revolts• Caracas, Venezuela declares its independence
from Spain and the Revolution begins

Try #1• Bolivar fought under another commander in the first Venezuelan revolt against Spain• The rebels were defeated and Bolivar had to flee the countryTry #2• Bolivar returns to fight again• He wins some, loses some and eventually has to flee

from Spain
Finally…
Simon Bolivar was named El Libertador (The Liberator) for his work in freeing South America from Spanish rule.
Bolivia was named after him.
His statue can be found in many town squares in South America.
