Similar Teachings of Muhammad and Jesus

When you begin to study the Qur’an (documented between 609-652 AD) and the Gospel (documented between 30-80 AD) you learn that Muhammad and Jesus taught about manyof the same virtues and values. One of the strongest similarities between whatMuhammad and Jesus taught was how we are to love God above all other things:

Muhammad taught: “And they have been commanded no more than this:To worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being true (in faith); toestablish regular prayer; and to practice regular charity; and that is theReligion Right and Straight.” (The Qur’an, Surah 98:5. The Clear Proof,

Evidence)

Muhammad taught: “The same religion has He established for you as thatwhich He enjoined on Noah - the which We have sent by inspiration to thee -and that which We enjoined on Abraham, Moses, and Jesus: Namely, that yeshould remain steadfast in religion, and make no divisions therein: to thosewho worship other things than Allah, hard is the (way) to which thou callest

them. Allah chooses to Himself those whom He pleases, and guides to Himselfthose who turn (to Him).” ( The Qur’an, Surah 42:13 Councel, Consultation)

And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, andperceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the firstcommandment of all? [29] And Jesus answered him “The first of all the

by the prophets before them. Prophets that both Muhammad and Jesus showedreverence to in their teachings:

Muhammad taught: “Say ye: We believe in Allah, and the revelation givento us, and to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given toMoses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make nodifference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)."137. So if they believe as ye believe, they are indeed on the right path; but ifthey turn back, it is they who are in schism; but Allah will suffice thee asagainst them, and He is the All-Hearing, the All- Knowing.” (The Qur’ an, Surah2:136, The Cow)

Muhammad taught: “It is He Who sent down to thee (step by step), intruth, the Book, confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Law (ofMoses) and the Gospel (of Jesus) before this, as a guide to mankind, and Hesent down the criterion (of judgment between right and wrong). (The Qur’an,

Surah 3:3, The Family Of 'Imran, The House Of 'Imran)

Muhammad taught: “We have sent thee inspiration, as We sent it to Noahand the Messengers after him : we sent inspiration to Abraham, Isma'il, Isaac,Jacob and the Tribes, to Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and solomon, and to DavidWe gave the Psalms.” (The Qur’an, Surah 4:163, Women)

Jesus taught: “Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or theprophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18] For verily I say untoyou, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass fromthe law, till all be fulfilled. [19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of theseleast commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least inthe kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the sameshall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (The Gospel, Matthew 5:17-

19)

However, some of the teachings Muhammad revealed did not reflect the same virtues andvalues that Jesus taught. In fact, some of Muhammad’s teachings were a directcontradiction to what Jesus taught. (Please see, "Different Teachings" )

the year 609 AD, at the age of 40 while meditating in the cave of Hira, outside of Mecca,Muhammad had a vision. When Muhammad returned to his family he told them the AngelGabriel came to him and gave him "Revelations" from Allah. Muhammad felt he had beenchosen by Allah to restore morals and values back into his people:

Muhammad taught: “Those apostles We endowed with gifts, some aboveothers: To one of them Allah spoke; others He raised to degrees (of honour);to Jesus the son of Mary We gave clear (Signs), and strengthened him with theholy spirit. If Allah had so willed, succeeding generations would not havefought among each other, after clear (Signs) had come to them, but they(chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting. If Allah had so willed, they would not have fought each other; but Allah Fulfilleth His plan.” (TheQur’an, Su rah 2:253, The Cow)

Muhammad even instructed Muslims not to associate with Christians because he feltsome of them had strayed away from God because of their Christian beliefs:

Muhammad taught: “O ye who believe! Take not the Jews and theChristians for your friends and protectors: They are but friends and protectorsto each other. And he amongst you that turns to them (for friendship) is ofthem. Verily Allah guideth not a people unjust.” (The Qur’an , Surah 5:51, TheTable, The Table Spread)

It is important to point out that Jesus predicted the Gospel would bring division amongpeople because it contained teachings that many would not understand, nor believe:

Jesus taught: “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will Iconfess also before my Father which is in heaven. [33] But whosoever shalldeny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.[34] Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send

peace, but a sword. [35] For I am come to set a man at variance against hisfather, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law againsther mother in law. [36] And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.[37] He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: andhe that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. [38] And hethat taketh not his cross and followeth after me is not worthy of me [39] He

Jesus taught: “And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that noman deceive you. [5] For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ;and shall deceive many. [6] And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars:see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but theend is not yet. [7] For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom againstkingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, indivers places. [8] All these are the beginning of sorrows. [9] Then shall theydeliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of allnations for my name's sake. [10] And then shall many be offended, and shallbetray one another, and shall hate one another. [11] And many false prophetsshall rise, and shall deceive many. [12] And because iniquity shall abound, thelove of many shall wax cold. [13] But he that shall endure unto the end, thesame shall be saved. [14] And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached inall the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." (TheGospel, Matthew 24:4-14)

It is important to keep in mind that even though some people stayed from following theGospel, this did not change the teachings of the Gospel. Jesus taught us the Word of God.However, it was the people who refused to live by the Word of God who became corrupt, not the Gospel.

The Gospel is the Word of God. It still contains all the knowledge, spirituality and wisdom

to inner-peace and eternal life today, as it did back then.

Our Free Will, Following the Will of God

We were all given “free will” by God to choose who and what we wish to love in this world.God is hoping we choose to love Him over all other things. God loves us deeply and wantsus to feel the immense love He has for us. God created all of us with the intention of usbeing part His Spiritual Family.

However, if we choose not to believe in God, or choose not to live according to His Authority, we slowly separate ourselves from feeling the love God has for us. God stillloves us and wants us to be part of His Kingdom, but it is we who choose to distanceourselves from God not the other way around

withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they areburned. [7] If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what yewill, and it shall be done unto you. [8] Herein is my Father glorified, that yebear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. [9] As the Father hath loved me,so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. [10] If ye keep mycommandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father'scommandments, and abide in his love." (John 15:5-10)

Jesus taught: "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter intothe kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is inheaven. [22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we notprophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thyname done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, Inever knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. [24] Thereforewhosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken himunto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: [25] And the rain

descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon thathouse; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. [26] And every one thatheareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto afoolish man, which built his house upon the sand: [27] And the raindescended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon thathouse; and it fell: and great was the fall of it." (The Gospel, Matthew 7:21-27)

Muhammad taught something similar to what Jesus taught. However, in Muhammad’steachings, God does not love us if we are not living according to His Authority:

Muhammad taught: Say: "If ye do love Allah, Follow me: Allah will love youand forgive you your sins: For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." 32. Say:"Obey Allah and His Messenger": But if they turn back, Allah loveth not thosewho reject Faith. (Surah 3:31-32, The Family of 'Imran, The House of 'Imran)

Muhammad taught: "As to those who believe and work righteousness, Allahwill pay them (in full) their reward; but Allah loveth not those who do wrong."(Surah 3:57, The Family Of 'Imran, The House Of 'Imran)

Muhammad taught: Allah will deprive usury of all blessing but will give

the other way around.

If we choose to follow God’s Teachings, we will feel the full power of God's Love becausewe want to grow in His Love and Fellowship. God will always forgive us for our sins andshortcomings just as a parent always forgives their child when they have done wrong, butknow they are trying their best to be a good person.

Feeling the Love of God is the most powerful Love we can ever know. It is the same typeof love that makes a parent gladly lay down their life for their child. This is what God did for

us when He gave us His only Begotten Son so He could lay down His life to show us thepath to eternal life:

Jesus taught: ”For God so loved the world, that he g ave his only begottenSon, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlastinglife. [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; butthat the world through him might be saved. [18] He that believeth on him isnot condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because hehath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. [19] And thisis the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loveddarkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. [20] For every onethat doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deedsshould be reproved. [21] But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that hisdeeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.” (The Gospel,John 3:16-21)

It is very tragic when a child chooses to turn away from the love of their parent, but it doeshappen because we are all given free will to choose who, and what, we wish to love in thisworld. We invite you to learn about the teachings of Muhammad and Jesus so you candecide for yourself which path you wish to follow.
