Among the improvements were a new paved trail system, a modern new 18,000-square-foot visitor’s center with conces-sions and a 260-seat main hall, reconstruction of the island foot bridge, updates to the existing park maintenance facility, a complete overhaul of the park’s main entrance and parking lot, and an outdoor amphitheater for up to 1,000 people to enjoy performances of dance, theater and music.
The project adhered to the State of Minnesota’s Build-ings, Benchmarks & Beyond (B3) guidelines for sustain-ability.
This project received the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal Best in Real Estate Award, the Minnesota Con-struction Association Project Achievement Award and the Minnesota Chapter of the American Society of Land-scape Architects Design Award of Excellence among others.
