July 4th Celebration Baking Contest
Winners…Winners of the baking contest for the 2013 July 4th celebration were
as follows:• Grand Prize for Overall Baking – Alex and Abby Smith• First Prize for Brownies – Lucas Unruh• First Prize for Cookies – Emily Shelton• First Prize for Cakes – Laura Rozelle• First Prize for Cupcakes – Anita Moore
Each winner took home a cash prize of $100. As an extra added treat we are printing two of the five winning recipes.
Lemon Butter Cookies as baked by Emily Shelton
½ c sugar½ c powdered sugar¾ c butter¼ c oil1 tbsp grated lemon peel1 tbsp lemon juice1 egg2 ½ c all purpose flour½ tsp cream of tartar½ tsp baking soda¼ tsp saltYellow decorator sugarBetty Crocker Lemon icingFondant decorations as needed
In a large bowl, beat sugar, powdered sugar, butter and oil until light and fluffy. Add lemon peel, lemon juice and egg; blend well. Stir flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt; mix well. Cover with plastic wrap; refrigerate one hour for easier handling.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Shape dough into 1 inch balls; roll in decorator sugar. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 7 to 12 minutes or until set, immediately remove from cookie sheets. Cool and enjoy these light and crispy cookies!

Bake and cool brownies as instructed. Using a star shaped cookie cutter, cut start in prepared brownies. Ice tops smooth with fudge icing. Decorate with various toppings.

The Dawson Volleyball Booster Club will be hosting its second annual Bingo Fundraiser on Saturday, September 14th, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Dawson High School, 2050 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, Texas. Doors will open at 6:00 pm. Show your support and come to this family friendly night of fun which will include 10 games of bingo, door prizes, concessions, and a silent auction. The jackpot for the last game will be $750. Bingo cards, daubers, and food will be on sale. Bingo cards will be sold at the event for $25 for a 10 pack of cards, $3 for a single card for regular games, and $5 for a single card for the jackpot game. Pre-sale tickets for a 10 pack of cards plus a bonus card for the jackpot game can be purchased from Dawson volleyball players for $25. The booster club is seeking donations from the community in the form of monetary donations, gift cards, or items for the silent auction. If you are interested in making a donation or purchasing tickets, please contact Yvonne Pirnik 281-997-1258.

Another 4th of July Blast!The Silverlake HOA would like to thank all of the residents who
came out and made the 8th annual 4th of July celebration a success! Admission to the event was free, but we were still all able to enjoy hamburgers, hotdogs, water slides and so much more.
We’d especially like to thank all of the volunteers and vendors that continue to make this event a success. Special thanks go out to John Kelly and the Terra Management Company, Manvel Moonwa lk s and Produc t i on and Ev e n t S e r v i c e s . We could not have pulled off this event without their help.

The HOA has updated the Silverlake website. The website is available to all residents of Silverlake HOA.
