“The combination of Barlow’s terrific central performance and a screenplay packed with wit and sensitivity makes this an incredibly charming coming- of-age comedy” Katherine McLaughlin

We have all missed watching films together, in the cinema: we run a film festival because we love watching films communally on a big screen. We have a wonderful programme of F-Rated Gems, a new 4 O’Clock Club, and of course outstanding, mind-expanding, new and soon to be released feature films.

This year we also have festival passes which means that you could watch ALL 33 films for as little as £2.27 a film. So come and join us, tell all of your friends, and buy everyone you know film festival tickets.

BACK IN THE CINEMA TOGETHER AGAIN...

F-Rated GemsWe are thrilled that 79% of this year’s films are directed by women. Every day we have two F-Rated Gems, from the wonderful Sweetheart to the joy that is Faces Places. This is a glorious opportunity to watch much-loved movies on the big screen.

4 O’Clock ClubThese films have been chosen especially for you and for our younger, teen audience. Time to revisit the cult classic, But I’m A Cheerleader, which perfectly pairs with The Miseducation of Cameron Post, as does Diary of a Teenage Girl with Whip It. Buy a 5-ticket pass for just £20.

Black History MonthCelebrating some outstanding films in Black History Month, we start with Belle, Amma Asante’s biopic about Dido Belle who was raised as part of an aristocratic family in Georgian Britain. Set in 1964, The Secret Life of Bees, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, has a stellar cast and will warm the cockles. Queen of Katwe is a crowd pleaser and Zola is a perfect indie film.

Halloween SpecialDelving into the darkness, on Halloween we have the gloriously gaudy The Love Witch; The Babadook, “one of the strongest, most effective horror films of recent years” – Empire; Lamb, a “stark, strange Icelandic motherhood horror”; and Titane, “brutal, beautiful, borderline unbearable, and absolutely brilliant.” – The Spool.

Evening FilmsThe festival opens with Olivia Coleman, Colin Firth and Josh O’Connor in Mothering Sunday and closes with Jessica Chastain delivering a career-best performance in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. In between we have a smorgasbord of superb films which might not otherwise screen in Bath.

Céline Sciamma Triple-BillIt was Portrait of a Lady on Fire back in 2019 which cemented Sciamma’s genius in every film-lover’s mind. We are really looking forward to revisiting her 2011 film, Tomboy, about 10-year-old Laure who starts to identify as a boy; 2014’s wonderful Girlhood; and her new film, Petite Maman, which Christopher Llewellyn Reed describes as “pure magic”. Come and see them all.

Welcome to the 31st FilmBath Festival 29 Oct - 4 Nov

Don’t miss!Sweetheart (above)Mon, Nov 1, 2021 13:30

Our Venue: The Little Theatre, BathThis is the 31st FilmBath Festival and for the first time in our history, we are hiring the WHOLE of Screen One at The Little for an entire week. Come and spend a whole week revelling in festival films.
