SIKA SPIRITLETS TAKE GROWTH TO THE NEXT LEVEL
FROM THE MANAGING DIRECTOR'S DESK
Dear Friends,
I am delighted to be part of this excellent initiative of our very own house magazine - 'Sika Spirit' by HR and Marketing. This is a nice opportunity for all of us
to get connected with each other and know about what's happening around us within Sika India - the results, the initiatives, the best demonstrated
practices, the key project wins, special achievements and examples of Sika Spirits!
Once, while I was on a business trip to Cuttack, Orissa, one of my Sika colleagues told me a story about the famous detective, Mr. Sherlock Holmes and his
assistant, Mr. Watson. The story goes like this - "while camping by the riverside on a nice summer evening, Sherlock Holmes and Watson put their tent and
decided to take some rest. Both were lying down side by side, face upward, and quietly took a nap. Waking up after a while, Sherlock Holmes enquired:
Watson, what do you think about the harvest this year? Watson replied with confidence: Looking at the clear night sky and the bright stars, I strongly feel
that the harvest this season will be excellent. Sherlock Holmes smiled and reminded: Watson, you are actually missing the basics. Someone has stolen our
tent while we dozed off!" This story is funny but carries a very practical and strong message that the most difficult thing to do is to do the basics. On the 1st
of July this year, we started a new journey in Sika India - the challenge of an organization to deliver on its potential in terms of a "profitable growth" was
staring at us. However, with all your blessings and positive energy, I decided to look at the challenge in a different way - I decided to get back to Basics!
In any business, the most critical factor is achieving "profitable growth". I am sure, all of us understand and intend to achieve this. This brings us happiness
of recognition, increments, incentives and strengthens us to do more for our organization. When it comes to the basics of achieving "profitable growth",
the process is simple ; Increase your sales, Improve your material margin and Optimize your operational expenses. The trick is actually in getting the
balance right. The only tool by which one can achieve this is by improving "Efficiency" , where we organize and optimize all our efforts and steps to achieve
"more with less" and truly believe that "less is more"!
With the above challenges in mind, we decided to start at the basics and introduced and implemented the following in the last couple of months: :
Realignment and reorganization - Improve efficiency in every function and promote the performers with higher responsibilities.
Regional Profit and Loss - To make each region self-sufficient and more accountable for the performance and deliverables in line with our goals
Optimizing operational expenses - Investing on video conferencing in place of traveling for internal meetings, improved efficiency - time saved and
travel stress avoided for individuals
We received excellent support from all of you and many of you stepped up in helping us to meet the challenges and this is a great encouragement for our
Leadership Team to work further to take Sika India to the next level of an efficient organization. We will all be proud to do this together! We are now at the
business end of the year and let's re-group and re-organise all our efforts and energy to go for the strong push.
While I sign off, I would like to share my vision - " To achieve a Profitable Growth for Sika India" and our mission 2015 " To record a double digit growth on
Sales and Operational EBIT (Profitability)" with all of you. When I started as a Sales Trainee a long 17 years back in Sika, I was groomed to have this
enormous faith on our Sika Spirit and I am confident with all your contributions and passion we shall reach our goals for this great organization. As they say,
" A leader is as good as the team" and with all your support, I am confident that this dream of taking this company to the next level of "Efficiency" will surely
be achieved.
Let's do it, together.
My best wishes to all of you and your family members,
LETS TAKE
TO THE NEXT LEVELGROWTH

While the daily recommended amount of water is eight cups per day, not all of this water must be consumed as drinking water. Nearly every food and drink item provide some water to the body.
Human blood is 83% water
By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over 1 percent of its total water amount.
70% of the Earth is covered with water but only about 1% of the world's water is readily available for human use. Nearly 97% is salty or otherwise undrinkable. Another 2% is locked in the ice caps and glaciers. That leaves 1% for human needs.

As an employee welfare initiative, Its time that we relax our mind, and energize our body by getting yoga into our routine...
We give you an hour of Me-time every week to rejuvenate yourself with a fun filled yoga session.
Sessions have commenced in the Corporate office. We encourage other locations to start this initiative.

In my opinion "SIKA SPIRIT" is
"Special Initiative for securing Results In Time"
SIKA SPIRIT is synonymous with a strong set of values and principles which makes up the DNA of the company. It helps to set up high quality standards with our products and services with the core objective of supporting sustainable development and building trust. It promotes the practice of our long lasting tradition of innovation, empowerment and respect of working relationships. It binds us with a high level of integrity.
I would like to mention a nice recent situation which can define Sika Spirit nicely.
I had developed a Key Account - Enercon (now known as Windworld) since 2004-05 and handed over to construction/Building System team in 2010 . Up to 2009-10 this account was 100% with Sika and over time we lost admixture order to our competitors.
Of late there were some organizational changes. Some of the senior managers, new in charge, of Windworld, approached me to re-enter the admixture business. They wanted to restart business with Sika considering good past track records as vendor . It was a good opportunity for Sika. So, I approached TM Heads (Industry, Concrete, Refurbishment) and MD of Sika India and offered my services to regain the business. All of our senior managers approved that happily .
We had formed a team of experts from various specialized areas and worked very timelessly for 37 days to establish a more technically superior and efficient product.
This whole exercise will add 500 to 1000 MT additional business in 2016. And as our product was superior and efficient we could win the order by commanding a better price than competition.
I am in TM Industry and working for construction segment is not in my JD / KRA. Still I wished to work in this construction project and the proposal was happily approved by my TM Head . · KAM Windworld is Key Account for TM Refurbishment and not of TM Concrete. Still the project work was done by TM Concrete ( Vikram Lakade , Sujit Pati , Amarjit Singh , Sukanta Sahu , Kiran Matre,Hemendra Singh ) . I have only guided how to do and made the final negotiation with the customer. It is interesting to note that I never visited the site .
Sagar , ( KAM of Wind World ) happily accepted our interference in his account and helped us all the way to make it a grand success .
The moral of the story is; from Management level to front line execution we worked as SIKA POWER and wished from our heart to win over competition. TM and individual KRA was never a barrier . That's called SIKA SPIRIT.
Sika spirit is an entrepreneurial and ownership spirit which results in continuous improvement and innovation.
Sika Spirit is also about thinking big. building a team of people who are not afraid to be in the driver's seat (leading) and are equally happy to ride in the passenger's seat when others take the lead (following). It is truly built around collaboration and based on the concept that no idea is a bad idea.

Nestle has built up a state of the art utility plant within its facility at Moga. This Cow Water Plant processes the waste water collected from the plant to make it fit for potable use.
Being a utility plant handling water at high temperature, the client wanted to have a flooring system to withstand such an exposure while offering slip resistance and easy cleanability as per the global Nestle standards for food industry. Total area was around 500 sqms.
Sikafloor cementitious polyurethane system was applied along with coving and lining of drainage gutter.

How did you start your journey at Sika? I'm deeply indebted to Sika for an opportunity when I was desperately looking for it. It's almost 7 years when I joined Sika as Factory Manager in Kalyani, though in Sika's term, 7 years is just a beginning. After spending 9 months at Kalyani, I was transferred to Goa as Factory Manager was given the responsibility of Head Operations in April 2010 I am continuing in this position. In my view, Sikas main strength is its PEOPLE and their affection & passion. The result is the significant growth over the years and today we have a strong base to move further.
What are your achievements? Tough to answer, few are here:- People development and change in approach to look at the things positively. Improved factory processes and operations which help in timely supplies of
materials. PCE production at Kalyani. Being a part of team I worked for setting up of plant at Jhagadia and Toll
manufacturing units at Godhra (Now closed), Howrah and Bangalore to cater the powder requirements.
Sales oriented approach of the team.
Any special moments or memories? January 12, 2015 when I started staying with family again as I moved to Mumbai in
the new role. There were lot of good moments during working at Kalyani with entire team and our
workmen and celebration of first family get together. My association with Sika which is now longest one in my career.
Head OperationsAlok Shrivastava
Sika India Pvt. Ltd.
How did you start your journey at Sika ? I have completed almost 26 years in Sika. I joined the company as Head - Finance and accounts in 1989. When I joined, the Company was just 4+ years with a turnover of less than a Crore and with about 30 employees. I have seen the Company growing steadily, crossing its teen and thereafter entering adulthood. I have been a part of this growth process and have witnessed the gradual transformation.
What are your achievements? At the time when automatization did not exist in India, I was able to convince and get approval from management to install an accounting software and there after implementation of Axapta. On September 2000, our Kalyani factory was badly affected by flood. With about 6 feet of water inside the factory, the stock was totally damaged together with major damage to R&D instruments and production machines. On my insistence, the Company had taken the flood cover which was optional and that saved the Company from huge financial loss.
What are your special moments and memories? To work for such an international Group is indeed a privilege with well laid down policies, guidelines and ethics . This feeling was further enhanced when I received the Long Service Award from the Company in 2013.

FROM THE EDITORS DESK
What was the secret of Nepoleans success at victories ? the secret was the spirit of not giving up, come what may ! For him the last 5 minutes of a battle was the most important. Is this not a familiar behavior at Sika !!!
It was the spirit to be undaunted by any obstacle which made legendary footballer Roberto Baggio overcome from an unrecoverable accident, and win many accolades as one of the most successful footballers ever. Do we at Sika not work in that manner !!!
Every heart at Sika beats and resonates with this Sika Spirit, which can be summarized as being:
COMMITTED TO EXCELLENCE INSPIRED BY INNOVATION
BUILDING TRUST
This quarterly magazine is an effort to capture some snapshots of the Sika Spirit, and win all our future battles as comrades of this spirit.
