Grace in SimplicityAn ode to white and the most arresting tinctures

The birth of modern design is solely attributed to needs. Thus,

modern homes are expected to serve the desires of the inhabit-

ants to their contentment. While the adaptations of modern de-

signs are burgeoning, professional designers creatively provide a break to

their seemingly cold appeal by introducing elements that beautifully off-

set the basics of contemporary style. Nothing enlivens interiors more like

splashes of tropical inspirations.

For this inviting home, Architect Toots Romero masterfully crafted the

spaces to evoke warmth despite the obvious forward fashion. “It was an

existing house, so what we did was we made each part more exciting—

lovely and stylish!” he recalls. Built with mostly white walls and ceilings, the

living spaces maintain a homey vibe with the inclusion of textures, prints

and organic elements. Characterized by clean, sleek lines and almost

solid planes, the addition of surprising architectural details is a nothing

but a genius move. The combination of neutral sectional sofa and a pair

of deep red armchairs calls to mind Hollywood glamour. Andersen Picture

Windows provide the space not only with ample natural light but a view of

the garden charmingly framed by the Andersen Casement Windows. “We

wanted a solid design that would go perfectly with our vision. Of course the

client also required that the products are easy to maintain and operate—

Andersen products just fit the bill perfectly!” he says.

The family room, appointed with well-chosen accoutrements and equipped

with high-tech appliances for pure pleasure, is made more elegantly

modern and energy-efficient with Andersen Patio Doors. The space opens

up to the pool area, which is surrounded by variegated bamboos and tall

shrubs. “Andersen is the most reliable brand for doors and windows when

it comes to performance, quality and design,” Toots shares. “Not to men-

tion that the service is impeccable!” he finishes.

The Mediterranean region is always associated with cool,

calm waters and filled with vibrant greens that surround the

horizon. Designs that take after this idyllic place are often heavy

on architectural detailing to create a striking contrast to its immediate sur-

roundings. As a professional designer, Architect Lori Borja of DQA is well

equipped to design a dwelling that takes after the peaceful energy of the

Mediterranean. “I have done other projects for the homeowners. I say this

time around was easier since I know their personal tastes and personali-

ties that I can incorporate into the design,” she says. “The owners are very

particular with the materials used for the construction. They wanted the

Occupying a corner lot, the grandeur of the house is amplified by the

wrought iron details, well-selected plants from a well-kept garden, and

exquisite arched windows. The sleek engineering of Andersen Windows

allows the structure to stay true to its original design.

The foyer greets guests with impeccable implements that only serve to

heighten the ambiance. It leads to the expansive living area, surrounded

by Andersen Windows and Doors, giving the space a generous view of the

panoramic garden and inviting pool. Adjacent to the living area is a mini

bar that heralds a courtyard set with Andersen Patio Doors. “The owners

hang out with guests a lot in the pavilion. They absolutely adore the An-

dersen Sliding Doors that open up to the pool area,” shares Lori. “It keeps

the heat and noise out of the interiors, and it does not require too much

maintenance, too!” she furthers.

The elegance of the house continues to the dining area, where an eight-

seater wooden dining table acts as the focal point. Andersen Windows

surround the space, making it more energy-efficient. A simple wrought iron

lighting fixture with graceful lines directs the eyes upwards.

To keep utmost privacy, the bedrooms are all located on the second floor.

To preserve the beauty of the hardwood floors, Lori used BONA wood

flooring coating, which makes the horizontal more resilient to heavy traffic

without the obvious signs of wear and tear. “The BONA Wood Coating Sys-

tem not only enhances the splendor of wood, it provides a layer of protec-

tion to safeguard the material and makes it last a lifetime,” Lori finishes.

When it comes to home designs, those done with Eastern

influences are not one-of-a-kind. In fact, most homes take

after the fluid lines and tranquil composition of this design

genre. While a number of permutations of Asian design exist, it cannot be

denied that there are those that stand out among the rest. Such is the

house designed by Architect Alex Co for a family that lives in one of the

metro’s busiest district. “When we started, the couple had different prefer-

ences for the design of the house,” he says. “As the architect, it was my

job to let them know based on studies, which one will be more appropri-

ate. Given the needs, and considering the size of the family, we went with

Modern Asian,” he continues.

Double volume ceilings and the muted colors of the living area heighten

the airy vibe of the interior spaces, punctuated with occasional splashes of

bold colors that effectively break the monotony of neutrals. The white walls

further softened the composition. The same flooring extends up to the

dining area for visual continuity. Like the other parts of the house, the din-

ing space is enveloped in natural light, yet the temperature is maintained

at a comfortable level. “We surrounded the room with Andersen Patio

Doors and Casement Windows to regulate the temperature and noise. Not

only that, Andersen products also allowed us to stay true to the design

vision. With a variety of frames to choose from, we were able to complete

the design,” Alex shares. The homeowners are innately drawn to the allure

of wood. It is evident in some of the furniture pieces.

Stairs built with precious hardwood and tempered glass

lead to the private spaces on the second floor. The

master bedroom is a study in Asian elegance filled with

modern accoutrements. Symmetry is employed for a more

streamlined take on design. “The design of all the spaces

in the house, especially the master bedroom is customized

to serve the needs of the inhabitants,” Alex explains. “Since

the lot is located very near a major thoroughfare, Andersen

Casement Windows and Picture Windows helped in blocking

off the noise, making each space in the house truly a haven,”

he finishes.

Realms of the RegalPersonal touches make spaces remarkable

It is undeniable that there is something intriguing about designs fit for

royalty. The splendor of intricacies is made more opulent with lines

that combine the comforting sinuous silhouettes with a commanding

presence. While the beauty of imperial blueprint dates back many eons

ago, skillful designers draw inspirations from this era to modernize the

design and make it fit for contemporary living.

Inspired by the immortal characteristic of the classics, the architect

infused it with modern elements to make it updated. “The design is

Hybrid Classic. Timeless forms are combined with touches of modernism,”

he explains. “Each room is designed with a specific era—from Louie XVI to

the younger rules,” he continues.

The street façade is filled with details that allow the house to stand out.

The use of white, wood and wrought iron details provide a stately ambi-

ance, while the surrounding greens enliven the perimeter. The living area

is a dramatic composition of white and deep, rich hues. Marble floors and

tufted seats call to mind the enchanting bygone eras. The space is com-

pleted with invigorating views of the garden outside courtesy of Andersen

Picture Windows and Andersen Patio Doors. “The amazing technology

behind Andersen Products allowed us to achieve the design we wanted,”

says Brick. “The owners wanted to maximize the use of natural light, and

Andersen made it possible. And at the same time, made the spaces more

comfortable by regulating the temperature,” he furthers.

The working area and the private rooms are located upstairs, where the

hallway floors are treated with BONA. “I am satisfied with how the floors

turned out. BONA floor treatments gave the design more character and

life,” the architect states. The wooden floors continue inside the rooms for

visual continuity. Well-chosen pieces that follow the design of the other

rooms can be found in the home office. Meanwhile, the bedroom is a study

in tranquility with pristine walls and ambient lighting. Andersen Windows

heighten the stillness of the room. “Andersen Windows keep the noise

levels down so it is perfect for the bedroom, and for the entire house as

well!” he finishes.

Dynamics of ModernismFresh ideas breathe new life to organic forms

The mere sight of nature’s wonders offers innumerable

marvelous things, and it should come as no surprise why it

readily presents myriads of ideas and inspirations for designs.

Professional designers have the power to harness the beauty of nature

and translate it into an amazing creation that does not only please the eye,

but can nurture as well.

Architect Aries Tan and the contractor MC Geometric Proportions, Inc. com-

bined the delicate appeal of nature with the forward characteristics of con-

temporary designs for this dwelling in an exclusive residential enclave in

the metro. “I may have done this a number of times, but it is always a chal-

lenge to design a house,” he states. “I was very fortunate though that the

owners were hands on in the design process,” he continues. The façade of

the structure features a mix of materials that harmoniously come together,

forming a complete whole. Various greens with their vibrant appeal beauti-

fully offset the seemingly cold appearance of the white concrete.

The entire house is swathed in natural light courtesy of the expansive

Andersen Windows that also allow the well-manicured garden be part of

the overall design. Andersen Windows are engineered to let natural light

in while regulating the temperature of the interiors. They are also made

to withstand extreme conditions and do not require tedious maintenance,

as they are self-cleaning. “The owners were really happy about Andersen

Windows because it keeps the interiors cool even during the hottest days

of summer. They even recommended the brand to friends who are having

new homes built,” Aries shares.

The double volume ceiling of the living area adds up to the airy feel of

the interiors. It is appointed with well-selected implements that make the

space ultimately relaxing. Both the main and private spaces throughout

the house are equipped with Andersen Windows, while the wooden floors

are treated with BONA. “Andersen is the only choice for windows, espe-

cially for the private spaces because they reduce the noise coming from

the outside and BONA simply makes the wooden floors stand out!” says

Aries. “With the excellent products and good service, Andersen Windows

and BONA are worth every cent!” he finishes.

ThThe metro is subjected to a daily grind, giving its inhabitants high stress

levels. Modern individuals find refuge in many ways in order to revive their

exhausted minds and bodies. While some people may turn to vacation or a

quick trip to the spa for some quality relaxation, there are those who harnessed the

power of design to create a space that will rekindle dwindling spirits. With his many

years in the design industry, Architect Bobby Manosa knows exactly what needs to be

done in order to achieve a design that reinvigorates the senses. “Designs can be sub-

jected to a lot of different interpretations,” says Bobby. “It was a good thing the own-

ers were really involved in the process. It really helps if they have a vision that the ar-

chitect can work on,” he continues. The usual double volume height of the living area
