About the Society Summer Classes Guest Instructors
TheVaganovaTechniqueDanceSocietywasfoundedinEdmonton, Alberta in 1988 under the Artistic Director MariaMitrache-Bokor.Oneof themajorgoalsof theSocietyhasbeentoprovideuniquedanceopportunitiesfor ballet students, professionals and teachers in Alberta.
The Vaganova Summer School offers an unforgettable danceexperienceINBALLETANDPASDEDEUXunderthebestRUSSIANBALLETMASTERSFROMST.PETERSBURG,RUSSIA.Theprogrammeisdesignedfor students wishing to immerse themselves in the worlds of dance.Noauditionisnecessarytoparticipateinthesummer school. Minimum age for summer school is 8 years.
Students receive intensive instruction in Ballet, Pointe, Character, Variations, Pas De Deux, Jazz/Lyrical, Contemporary. Assessments for correct placement are conducted at the beginning of Summer School to ensure students are placed where the level of instruction is best suited to their abilities.
The concluding highlight of the Summer School will be afinalDemonstrationPerformance,whicheverystudentwill work toward and participate in. The show will be held attheMacLabTheatre,Leduc.Noadmissionfee.
Junior Level Minimum of 2 years of dance trainingClasses include Ballet, Character, Variations, Jazz/LyricalMinimumof 15hours
Intermediate Level Minimum of 4 years of classical dance trainingClasses include Ballet, Variations, Pointe, Pas de Dux and ContemporaryMinimum of 20 hours
Advanced Level Minimum of 8 years of classical dance trainingClasses include Ballet, Variations, Pas de Deux and ContemporaryMinimum of 20 hours
Pas de Deux classes are offered for Intermediate and Advanced classes. The students will be partnering with
professional dancers from the Mussorgsky Ballet Opera Company of St. Petersburg.
Anastasia Lomachenkova Miss Lomachenkova graduated from the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet, Saint-Petersburg, Russia, in 1998. The same year she started working as a soloist in the. Mussorgsky State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. A highlight of her international career is the GalaconcertPrima Ballerina Uliana Lopatkina and stars of Russian BalletinRussia,Singapore,Ukraine,Estoniaand Latvia. Her awards include a gold medal in the 2008 RudolfNureyevInternationalBalletCompetitioninBudapest,Hungary.MissLomachenkova’srepertoireincludes the roles of Odette/Odile in Swan Lake, Kitri in Don Quixote, Raymonda in Raymonda,GiselleinGiselle, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and many more.
Vladimir Tcal Mr. Tcal graduated from Vaganova Russian Ballet AcademyinStPetersburg,andjoinedthe Mikhailovsky Ballet in 1997 and is now a soloist. His reperotire includes Swan Lake (Rothbart & the Evil Genius),Le Corsaire (Conrad & Birbanto), La Bayadere (Slave & Chief of Security) Les Sylphides (Gurn),Romeo and Juliet (Señor Capulet & Tybalt, Humped Back Horse (the Magic Horse) and many more. He has taught and performed for the Vaganova Society for many years, including Basil in Don Quixote andGringoireinEsmeralda. InadditiontoteachingworkshopsintheUSandCanada,Mr.TcalhasworkedwiththeNorwegianballetschoolinNarvik.Heregularlygivesmaster-classesinclassicaldanceand pas de deux in St.Petersburg.
Michael Venshchikov Mr. Venshchikov graduated from Vaganova Russian BalletAcademyinStPetersburgin2001,andjoinedthe Mikhailovsky ballet as a soloist. His repertoire includes Swan Lake, La Bayadere, Giselle, Don Quixote, Nutcracker, Le Corsaire, La Sylphide, Esmeralda, Les Sylphides, Laurencia and Flames of Paris. He has performed, given workshops and directed the Russian Ballet Stars in the USA,Canada,Europe,Japan,ChinaandSouthAmerica.His performances with the Vaganova Society include Esmeralda, La Halte de Cavalerie and Don Quixote. In 2012 Mr. Venshchikov defended his PhD in Art History and began to teach at the Institute of Philosophy in St. PetersburgStateUniversity.
