  • FROM THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH & PARISH

Sw. Szczepan, jest świadkiem wiary. On uczy i zachęca nas do odważnego wyznania wiary.

The Annunciation of the Birth of Jesus takes place in Nazareth, Galilee, among those who belong to the lineage of King David. Jesus’ mission will begin in Galilee amongst the poor people. God is the one who will fulfill the promises made to David through the prophet Nathan. Indeed, Jesus is the Messiah, the One who will extend His sovereignty over All creation. Jesus’ victory is expressed on His Cross with title of His guilt, in three languages: Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. All nations were gathered in these languages. The events that occur in the lives of Zachariah, Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary deserve our attention. Zachariah and Elizabeth pray for the gift of a child. John the Baptist is the fruit of their prayers. Mary did not ask for the gift of God’s Son, but became the Mother of the Messiah. What is about to happen is the fruit of the Lord’s free grace, an act of divine action through the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary accepts the invitation and the Evangelist reveals the identity of Jesus. He is to be the Son of David. He receives the title of Mes-siah. Mary is the first to hear the Gospel, the announcing of the Messiah, the Son of God, and Mary de-cides to accept this Gospel and ‘what a Gospel this is’. At the moment of the annunciation Mary allows and bears ‘The Word saving fruit’ into the world. As a humble disciple Mary accepts the Word that comes from the lips of God. Mary not only allows God to come but allows Him to enter into Her life because She trusts that only He can make all His promises of salvation come true for Her and in Her. God is coming. Mary opens Her heart and allows Him to enter, and God leads Mary body and soul, to the true promised land. The promises made to the prophets and announced in the psalms are being fulfilled. “ Behold a Virgin will conceive and bear a Son, and they shall call Him – Emmanuel”.
