It is once again Fall at Rensselaer Polytechnic institute, which means a new loadof students comes in, while many others return to classes.

A new year at school also means a new year at the Delta Psi chapter of SigmaChi. This year we have already dug in with the Pre-Semester work session, and began

classes this week. The brothers are getting into the swing of things, and everybody isexcited for the upcoming month of Recruitment.

This alumni newsletter, as you many have already noticed, is much shorter thanthe previous installments. Many of you may remember a survey that went out last year, asking some general questions about alumni relations, and we have listened to your re-sponses. This should be the first of many smaller newsletters this year, with less informa-tion in each issue.

If you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to send me an email at

    the year

I believe that we can ac-complish all of these goals, and continue to improve our chapter.

    P a g e 2 Recruitment 09 For those who have not

yet heard, our goal for thissemester is to issue bids to atleast twenty quality men. If we do our job correctly, wewill have a very high per-

centage of those bids beingsigned at the end of Septem-ber. I know that some of you may be concerned thatthis is too many biddees or pledges; That we are focus-ing more on quantity thanquality. It is my belief, how-ever, that there is no short-age of quality men out therewho possess both the poten-

tial and the constitution tolive up to our standards inSigma Chi. If they are deter-mined and qualified to makethe same journey as so manybefore them, then thereshould be no reason for us todeny them this opportunity.

In addition to our newmembership goals, we as a

chapter are also aiming withthis Fall Recruitment to im-prove the reputation of the

house on-campus andin the community, aswell as strengthen the

brotherhood that al-ready exists. Everymember of the RPI

community shouldknow the name of Sigma Chi, and say itwith a tone of respectand admiration. If every brother does his

part and contributeseverything he can inthe coming months, our induction of newmembers can be as

much about strengthen-ing the bonds of old

brotherhood as it isabout building the

    bridge for the new.

    Pre-Semester Recap

    P a g e 3

Dear Brothers,Thank you for your gen-

erous support of this years Pre -Semester work party. We havetwenty-four brothers living-inthis fall. I can alreadysay that the projects we com-

pleted last week make the housea more comfortable place tolive. With upcoming recruit-ment in mind, I know thatamong other things, the physicalcondition of the house will makeSigma Chi stand out from therest. We are extremely proud of the improvements we have made

on our house this year. Most of the improvements

we performed thisyear are aesthetic. On the exterior, numerous potholes in the drive-way were filled and the ga-rage was painted. On the interior, the conservatory wainscot-ing was replaced, and the entireroom was painted. The dilapidatedshowers in the old house bath-room were replaced with durablestainless steel units. The long losturinal in the addition was fi-nally replaced. The fire tower was

painted and has new fire doors that

meet New York State firecode. Several bathrooms were

painted, as well as the fronthall. It gives a terrific first im-

pression to visitors, somethingthat we have always been proudof.

Enjoy the pictures. I hopeyou have an opportunity to visitand see the house in person; youare sure to be proud of our pro-gress.

In hoc signo vinces,Ken Sobel 12
