SNAP The aim is to win all of the cards. If you lose all of your cards you are out of the game. 1. Deal all the cards out; 2. Players place their cards in a pile face down in front of them; 3. Players take in turns to flip over one card and place it on the pile in the middle of the table and read the card; 4. When a card is turned up that matches the top card on the pile the first player to say “snap”, and read the card wins the whole pile of cards in play; 5. Play continues until one player has all the cards.  SNAIL This game uses the sight word flashcards to create a board game (in the shape of a snail, but you may select any shape you choose). 1. Set cards up face down in a spiral formation like a snail; 2. Using a die players take turns to roll die and collect that number of cards; 3. Players are to read the cards collected. If correct they get to keep cards. If not the other player can; 4. Play continues until there are no cards left.  MEMORY This game is designed to increase visual recognition of the cards. 1. Lay a set of cards face up on the table in a grid formation; 2. Ask child to look at the cards and memorise their content and position; 3.  Ask child to turn away while Adult removes a card (start with one and increase with practice and familiarity); 4. Ask the child to recall which cards have been removed. CONCENTRATION The terms “memory” and “concentration” are often used interchangeably for this game. We have used “concentration” to describe this game of remembering card positions. 1. Lay the cards out face down in a grid formation; 2. Players take turns to flip over two cards; 3. They read both cards; 4. If the cards are the same the player keeps the pair and has another go; 5. If the cards do not match they are returned to their original positions; 6. The winner is the person with the most cards at the end of the game. FISH The aim of this game to for children to collect matching pairs of cards, but asking players for the cards to complete their pairs. 1. Deal 4 cards to each player; 2. Place the rest of the cards, face down, in a pile in the middle of the table; 3. Players hold their cards in their hands so only they can see them; 4. Players place any pairs in a pile in front of them; 5. The first player asks the person on their left “Do you have *?” If the player has the card they must hand it over; 6.  If they don’t have the card, the first player must pick up a card from the pile; 7. If the player does not make a match it is the next player’s turn; 8. The game is finished when all the cards have been paired; 9. The winner is the player with the most pairs.

SIGHT WORD DETECTIVELocate sight words in the environment and in texts being read through the week. Bring a list of examplesnext week. BINGO Children will need to use 16 pairs of cards for this game (ie; two weeks of sight words). One set of cardsform the baseboards for each player, and the other cards are the calling cards.1.  Deal one set of the cards out to each player;2.  Lay the other set face down on the table in a single pile;3.  Each player lays their cards out, face up on the table in a grid formation;4.  Players take turns to select a card from the pile and read it;5.  If they player has the card, keep it and remove the matching card from their grid;6.  If the player does not have the card, they must hand it over to their partner to keep;

7. The winner is the first player to turn over all the cards. 

BOARD GAMESYou will need the sight word cards, board, dice and counters to play.

1. 

Place the sight word cards in a pile face down on the table.2.  Roll the dice and move that number of places.3.  Upon landing on a square follow the directions. If a player is successful they can remain on that

space. If not, they must move back one place.4.  The winner is the first player to reach the end of the board.

FISHING1.  Place a paperclip on the flashcards to be practiced.2.  Using a fishing rod (stick with string and a magnet at the end) take turns to “catch” a card and read

it.

BEAN BAG TOSS1.  Place flash cards on the floor.2.  Take turns to throw a bean bag on the floor and read the word that the bean bag lands on.

SPIN THE BOTTLE1.  Place the flashcards in a circle with a water bottle in the centre.2.  Take turns to spin the water bottle and read the word that the lid points to.

SPELLING SIGHT WORDS!  Spell your sight words using magnetic letters.!  Type spelling words on the computer.!  Use the computer program “200 Words” to practice your words.

MULTI SENSORY WRITING1.  Write your tricky word correctly at the top of the page. ! 2.  Have an adult check this for you. " 3.  Write the word and underline it.4.  Write the word using a different colour.

5.  Write the word in really big writing.

6.  Write the word using bubble writing.

7.  Write the word with spooky writing. 

8. 

Write the word using a thick crayon.9.  Write the word, with your tricky part in really small writing.

10.  Write the word in normal writ ing .

11.  Put your pen on the page, close your eyes # =and write the word.12.  While someone counts to 20 (or use a 30 second timer) $ write the word as many times as you can.
