‘The Hollies’ development located in Sidcup, Kentoffers a range of prestigious homes set within aparkland setting, benefiting from an on-site leisurecomplex (including indoor swimming pool, gymand tennis courts) and yet within 12 miles of central London.

The development includes both modern and period style homes all withinwalking distance of Sidcup station, local schools (including a co-educationalGrammar school and Church of England primary) and a variety of localshops and restaurants. Large open areas of grass and mature trees can befound within ‘The Hollies’ site making it very different in comparison to newhome developments built today. “The Hollies” has not always consisted ofresidential homes in 1902 the site was acquired by the Poor Law UnionDeptford and Greenwich, and became know as Lamorbey Children’s homewith many children from Greenwich hospital and the poor house being sentthere.Over the years the site had many change of names but becameknown as The Hollies Children’s Home in 1950 and was administered bySouthwark Borough Council until its closure in 1998.

Evidence and features of the original children’shome can still be found in many of the convertedEdwardian buildings such as hand rail spikesused to stop children from sliding down the stairs

and the impressive water tower (now known as the Clock Tower) whichonce provided a private supply of water to the properties and the laundryroom underneath.

Clive Lingard, of Drewery’s ‘Exclusive Homes’ Department commented:“Over twenty years have passed since the site was first developed and ourcompany helped to sell the range of new and converted homes. Over theyears we have seen a steady increase in demand for property on the site.Perhaps buyers now appreciate the unique location, character features andspacious setting more than ever as land, space and character homesbecome harder to find in general – especially with such easy access tocentral London and a range of excellent state schools nearby.”

If you are looking to buy or sell a property in the ‘The Hollies’ then pleasecontact our Exclusive Homes Department on 020 8300 6761.

HELP TO BUY INSTIGATES SIGNIFICANT EXPANSION WITHIN THE UKMORTGAGE MARKET

Over 6000 people have put offers on a home and applied for amortgage since the start of the Help to Buy scheme, driving furtherexpansion within the UK mortgage market.

These new mortgages will signify new lending of nearly £1 billion to those whopreviously found their home buying ambitions to be out of reach, due to the cost

of deposits, and has instigated further expansion within the UK mortgage market, with Santander and Barclaysset to introduce Help to Buy products. The Post Office has also announced it soon will join the scheme, offeringmortgages from its partner Bank of Ireland. The lenders currently offering the mortgage guarantee schemeinclude Lloyds Bank, NatWest, Halifax, Bank of Scotland, HSBC, Virgin Money and Aldermore.

This means that a remarkable two thirds of the UK mortgage market will now offer products under the Scheme, giving aspiring home owners a range of options in 2014 – important as January is the popular time for a freshstart somewhere new.

Prime Minister David Cameron said:“Too many people have found themselves frozen out of the market in recent years. That is why...we introducedthe Help to Buy scheme, so hardworking people with sufficient earnings can get on, fulfil their aspirations andenjoy the security of owning their own home.

“In less than three months, the scheme has already helped thousands of people. I want to see that continuein 2014 and for Help to Buy to help thousands more realise their dream of home ownership”.

The country’s biggest lender, Halifax, has announced that house pricesare roaring ahead of predictions; rising by 7.5% over 2013.

Halifax previously predicted movement of –2% to 2% for 2013, but the stronger growthcame through economic recovery and the government’s Help to Buy Scheme.

The figure of 7.5% has been calculated by quarterly year-on-year comparisons, and a direct comparison ofprices in December 2012 and December 2013.

Halifax's housing economist, Martin Ellis, commented:

“Mounting signs that the economic recovery is becoming firmly established, together with a predicted declinein unemployment, should further boost consumer confidence over the coming months.

“This will increase the likelihood that more people will consider buying a property in 2014, thereforesupporting housing demand.”

The bank has predicted growth of between 4% and 8% for 2014. source naea.co.uk
