Before you install

Welcome to Sibelius from Avid. This Quick Start Guide documents how to install andauthorize your Sibelius software on Windows and Mac systems. For detailed information onhow to use Sibelius, see the comprehensive Sibelius Reference Guide, available from withinthe software as an on-screen PDF from the File Help page, or as a printed book, availablefor separate purchase from Avids online store or your authorized Avid reseller.

Check box contentsBefore you start installing Sibelius, check the contents of the Sibelius box. In addition to thisQuick Start Guide you should find a cardboard disc wallet containing four DVD-ROMs,labeled Program DVD and Sound Library Disc 1, and Sound Library Disc 2, 3 and 4.

You should also find a small card with some important instructions on it. The specific carddepends on the kind of license you have purchased:

Single-user professional licenses contain a white card with the heading ActivatingSibelius, with a label showing the System ID and Activation ID for your copy ofSibelius stuck to it. If you bought this kind of license, you can proceed right along toinstalling, activating and registering your new copy of Sibelius .

Single-user licenses bought by teachers/institutions or students at an academicdiscount contain a green card with the heading Education Eligibility Verification see below

Single-user competitive crossgrades contain a yellow card with the headingCrossgrade Eligibility Verification see below

Single-user upgrades contain a blue card with the heading Upgrade EligibilityVerification see below.

Multi-user licenses and upgrades bought by educational institutions do not contain a card:6 Before you install

you should have received your System ID and Activation ID on a separate entitlementcertificate supplied to you along with your box.

Likewise, if you bought Sibelius from Avids online store as a download, and also ordered aMedia Pack so that you would have a set of physical discs to reinstall from in future, yourbox will not contain a card. To retrieve your System ID and Activation ID or verificationcode, go to https://account.avid.com and sign in using the email address and passwordyou used to make your purchase from the online store. Once you have signed in, click YourProducts, and youll find the download links together with your System ID and ActivationID or verification code on that page.

Education eligibility verificationTo qualify for the academic discount for Sibelius, you must complete a simple eligibilityverification process before you receive the serial number that will allow you to permanentlyactivate and register your software.

On the green card included in your box you will find a verification code that allows you tobegin the online eligibility checking process through Avids partner, Identit-E, as follows:

First, make sure you have one acceptable form of proof of your academic status.Acceptable forms include: a unique, valid email address associated with an educational entity (e.g., ending in

.edu or .ac.uk); school photo identification (including a date validating current status); or a letter from the institution confirming current academic status together with a

valid photo ID. The letter must be on the schools letterhead and signed by afaculty/staff member if you are a student, or signed by a colleague (includingcontact details) if you are faculty/staff.

Next, visit the eligibility verification portal at www.identit-e.com/avidBefore you install 7

Follow the steps provided in the verification portal. You will be prompted to enter yourverification code, which is printed on a label on the green card in your Sibelius box.You will then be presented with options to enter your academic email address, uploada scan of your proof, or email or fax your proof.

You will normally receive your System ID and Activation ID within two business days,during which time you can use Sibelius in its fully-functional trial mode.

Once you receive your System ID and Activation ID, you can proceed to activate and registeryour copy of Sibelius see Activating and registering Sibelius on page 12.

Competitive crossgrade eligibility verificationTo qualify for the competitive crossgrade discount for Sibelius, you must complete a simpleeligibility verification process before you can activate and register your software.

On the yellow card in your box you will find a verification code and instructions to visitwww.sibelius.com/verify. You must complete a simple online form and provide proof ofqualification in the form of a valid serial number for the qualifying product.

Verification normally takes no longer than 2-3 working days, during which time you canuse Sibelius in its fully-functional trial mode.

Once you receive your System ID and Activation ID by email, you can activate and registeryour copy of Sibelius see Activating and registering Sibelius on page 12.

Upgrade eligibility verification8 Before you install

When you purchase a single-user Sibelius upgrade, you must complete a simple eligibilityverification process before you can activate and register your software.

On the blue card in your box you will find an upgrade redemption code and instructions tovisit account.avid.com/activation. You must provide the redemption code from yourblue card and either your Sibelius serial number (beginning SC or SW) or your ActivationID, which you received when you purchased your first version of Sibelius. You will then begiven a new Activation ID for Sibelius .

If you encounter any problems with redeeming your upgrade, you can continue to useSibelius in its fully-functional trial mode in the meantime.

Once you have activated your upgrade, you can proceed to register your upgrade seeActivating and registering Sibelius on page 12.

Installing Sibelius

System requirementsBefore you install, check that your computer meets the system requirements:

Windows: Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8 32-bit or 64-bit or later; Intel Core 2 Duo (orequivalent) or faster; 1GB RAM (4GB+ recommended); 750MB hard disk space forSibelius alone (40GB for Sibelius plus Sibelius 7 Sounds), fast hard disk recommended;DVD-ROM drive; ASIO-compatible sound card recommended; printer, scanner,microphone, MIDI keyboard required for some features.

Mac: Mac OS X 10.6.8 to Mac OS X 10.9; Intel Core 2 Duo or faster; 1GB RAM (4GB+recommended); 750MB hard disk space for Sibelius alone (40GB for Sibelius plusSibelius 7 Sounds), fast hard disk recommended; printer, scanner, microphone, MIDIkeyboard required for some features.

Administrator privilegesYou must install Sibelius using a user account on your computer with administratorprivileges. In order to register Sibelius after installing it, you must either be using anadministrator user account, or be able to provide an administrator username and passwordwhen prompted.

Therefore we recommend that you install Sibelius, then after installing it, launch it andregister it as an administrator user. After having registered the software, we recommendthat you run Sibelius (like all other applications) as a non-privileged user, to increase thesecurity of your system.

Installing Sibelius10 Installing Sibelius

Sibelius is supplied on four DVD-ROM discs. To install Sibelius itself, insert the disc labeledProgram DVD and Sound Library Disc 1.

On Windows, a pretty menu will appear with various options. On Mac, a window willappear with a number of different installer icons.

To install Sibelius, click (or double-click on Mac) Install Sibelius 7.5, and follow the on-screen instructions.

If you have purchased a network multi-user license, you should install and activate theSibelius Licence Server before you install Sibelius on any of the client machines on yournetwork. Refer to the separate Sibelius Licence Server User Guide, which you will findinside the Network Licence Users Only folder on your Sibelius program DVD-ROM.

Installing Sibelius 7 SoundsThe included Sibelius 7 Sounds sample library will occupy around 40GB space on your harddisk, so be sure that you have sufficient space on the destination drive before you begininstallation. The library is split across all four DVD-ROM discs, starting on Program DVDand Sound Library Disc 1 and continuing on Sound Library Disc 2, 3 and 4. It doesntmatter in which order you install the discs, but do ensure that you install the content fromall four discs, otherwise when Sibelius later tries to load the sounds, you will see lots oferrors.

To start installation, insert Program DVD and Sound Library Disc 1, then click InstallSibelius 7 Sounds in the pretty menu on Windows, or double-click Install Sibelius 7Sounds on Mac. Once the first installer has completed, to continue installation, insertSound Library Disc 2. On Windows, after a few moments, the installer will run automati-cally. On Mac, a window will appear: double-click Install Sibelius 7 Sounds to continue.

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. The first installer you runInstalling Sibelius 11

will ask you to specify the location where the samples should be installed, but when youinsert the other discs, you will not be asked: the installer will simply continue in the samelocation as before. Once the first installer has completed, insert Sound Library Disc 3 andrepeat the process again.

Be aware that installation may take several hours, due to the very large size of the sample files.

Installing other applicationsYour Sibelius DVD-ROM includes several other useful applications, which you can installby clicking (or double-clicking on Mac) the following:

Install PhotoScore Lite: music scanning software, which can turn printed sheetmusic into editable files that you can transpose, play back, modify and print out, as ifyou had inputted it into Sibelius yourself. Install this unless you have purchasedPhotoScore Ultimate along with your copy of Sibelius, in which case you should installthat from its own separate disc.

Install AudioScore Lite: music transcription software, which can turn music playedon an acoustic instrument into a microphone, or even simple CD audio tracks, andhelp you to transcribe it into notation that you can edit in Sibelius. Install this unlessyou have purchased AudioScore Ultimate along with your copy of Sibelius, in whichcase you should install that from its own separate disc.

Install Scorch: browser plug-in, for viewing Sibelius scores directly in your browser.

12 Activating and registering Sibelius

Activating and registering Sibelius

When you first install Sibelius, it runs as a fully-functional 30-day trial. You can activateyour software at any time during or after the trial period has expired. Once the trial periodexpires, you will not be able to save any scores until you complete the activation process.

Activation is quick and easy, and can be done either directly using the Internet connectionon the computer on which Sibelius is installed, or indirectly using a web browser on anothercomputer.

How to activate SibeliusEach time you run Sibelius, you will be reminded how many days remain in your trialperiod and given the chance to activate. To proceed, you will need your System ID (which is11 digits long) and Activation ID (which consists of four groups of four letters andnumbers). Please refer to Before you install on page 5 for assistance with locating yourSystem ID and Activation ID.

To begin activation, click the Activate button in the Try Sibelius dialog that appears eachtime you run Sibelius, or go to File Help and click the Activate Sibelius 7.5 button. Ineither case, a separate application called Avid License Control (otherwise known as ALC)will run.

On the first page, you will see a list of installed Avid products, including Sibelius. Click theActivate button to the right to proceed (or click Done at the bottom right-hand corner toleave ALC without activating your software).

On the next page you are asked to choose between using the Internet connection on thecomputer on which Sibelius is running, or using the Internet connection on anothercomputer (if the computer on which Sibelius is installed is not connected to the Internet).

If possible, choose This computers Internet connection and click Next. On the nextActivating and registering Sibelius 13

page, enter your System ID and Activation ID, and click Activate. After a few moments youwill be told that activation was successful, and you can click Done to leave ALC and returnto Sibelius. You will then be prompted to register your copy of Sibelius, which you should doas soon as possible: see Benefits of registration below. If you choose not to register now,you will be reminded periodically.

If you choose Another computers Internet connection and click Next, you will beshown instructions for how to obtain a license file using another computer, which must betransferred back to the computer on which Sibelius is installed (e.g. using a USB flashdrive). You will also need to register your copy of Sibelius using your Internet connection onanother computer, by visiting www.sibelius.com/register in your web browser.

Benefits of registrationAfter activating your copy of Sibelius, you should also register the software with Avid. Whenyou register, you will receive an Avid Support Code (ASC) that provides you with access toassisted support from our experts, either through the online Avid support web site, or bytelephone.

Full details for how to contact Avid support are provided in the email sent to you uponsuccessful registration, so be sure to check that the email address you provide is correct.

In some countries, where assisted support is provided by local distributors, you will notreceive an Avid Support Code when you register: instead, you should contact yourdistributor for support.

Activating a second copy14 Activating and registering Sibelius

Single-user licenses and upgrades for Sibelius permit the use of the software on twocomputers for your own personal use. Simply install Sibelius on your second computer,then activate it following the instructions in How to activate Sibelius above.

Moving a copy of SibeliusTo move an activation from one computer to another for example, because you havebought a new notebook and want to transfer the activation from your old notebook to yournew one you should deactivate the copy of Sibelius on your old computer, informing ourservers that Sibelius is no longer in use on that computer (thus freeing up one of youractivations), and then register on your new computer (thus reusing that activation).

To do this, on your old computer choose File Help, then on the right-hand side underProduct activated, click Deactivate Sibelius 7.5. Avid License Control (ALC) will run:click the Deactivate button corresponding to Sibelius in the list of installed products, andfollow the on-screen instructions. Note that you can only deactivate your copy of Sibelius ifthe computer on which Sibelius is installed can connect to the Internet.

Now install Sibelius on your new computer, and activate that copy following theinstructions in How to activate Sibelius above.

Privilges dadministrateurVous devez installer Sibelius en utilisant un compte utilisateur avec des privilges dadmi-nistrateur. Activation et enregistrement de Sibelius

Lorsque vous installez Sibelius pour la premire fois, il fonctionne en tant que versiond'valuation de 30jours, entirement fonctionnelle. Vous pouvez activer votre logiciel tout moment, avant ou aprs l'expiration de la priode d'valuation. Aprs expiration dela priode d'valuation, vous ne pourrez plus sauvegarder vos partitions tant que vous n'aurezpas activ votre logiciel.

La procdure d'activation est simple et rapide, et peut tre effectue soit directement enutilisant la connexion Internet de l'ordinateur sur lequel Sibelius est install, soit indirec-tement en utilisant un navigateur Web sur un autre ordinateur.

Comment activer Sibelius chaque ouverture de Sibelius, le nombre de jours restant pour votre priode d'valuationest affich, et vous avez la possibilit d'activer votre logiciel. Pour cela, vous aurez besoinde votre ID systme (comprenant 11caractres) et de votre ID d'activation (form de quatregroupes de quatre lettres et chiffres). Per installare Sibelius, fate clic (o clic due volte su Mac) su Installa Sibelius 7.5 e seguitele istruzioni su schermo.

Se avete acquistato una licenza multi-utente di rete, dovreste installare e attivare il Server delle licenze di Sibelius prima di installare Sibelius su qualsiasi altro client della vostra rete. Non importa l'ordine in cui installate i dischi, ma assicuratevi di installare il conte-nuto di tutti e quattro i dischi, altrimenti quando Sibelius dopo cercher di caricare tutti isuoni si verificheranno molti errori.

Una volta terminata la prima installazione, inseriteSound Library Disc 3 e ripetete nuovamente la procedura.

Tenete presente che l'installazione durer diverse ore, date le grandi dimensioni dei campioni.

Installare altre applicazioniIl vostro DVD-ROM di Sibelius contiene altre utili applicazioni che potete installare facendoclic (o doppio clic su Mac) sulle seguenti voci:

Installatelo ameno che non abbiate acquistato AudioScore Ultimate insieme alla vostra copia di Sibelius,in qual caso dovreste installarlo dal suo disco apposito.

Installa Scorch: plug-in per browser internet, per vedere le partiture di Sibelius diret-tamente nel browser.

Attivare e registrare Sibelius

Quando installate Sibelius per la prima volta, si avvia per un periodo di prova completaper 30 giorni. Potete attivare il software in qualsiasi momento durante il periodo di provaoppure dopo che scaduto. Una volta concluso il periodo di prova, non potrete pi salvarele partiture a meno che non completiate il processo di attivazione.

L'attivazione facile e veloce, e pu essere fatta direttamente tramite Internet dal computersul quale installato Sibelius, oppure indirettamente utilizzando un browser internet diun altro computer.

Come attivare SibeliusOgni volta che avviate Sibelius, vi verr ricordato quanti giorni mancano al termine delperiodo di prova e vi verr offerta la possibilit di attivare. Per procedere saranno necessaril'ID di sistema (lungo 11 caratteri) e l'ID attivazione (composto di quattro gruppi di quattrolettere e numeri). Consultate Prima dellinstallazione a pagina 31 se necessitate diassistenza per individuare l'ID di sistema e l'ID attivazione.

Per iniziare l'attivazione, fate clic sul pulsante Attiva nel riquadro Prova Sibelius cheappare ogni volta che avviate Sibelius, oppure andate su File Aiuto e fate clic sul pulsanteAttiva Sibelius 7.5. In entrambi i casi, verr avviata un'applicazione separatachiamata Controllo Licenze Avid (Avid License Control, ALC).

Administratorrechte50 Installation von Sibelius

Sie mssen Sibelius ber ein Benutzerkonto mit Administratorrechten auf Ihrem Computer installieren. Fr die Registrierung von Sibelius nach der Installation mssen Sie entweder ein Administratorbenutzerkonto verwenden oder nach Aufforderung den Benutzernamen und das Kennwort eines Administrators angeben knnen.

Installieren Sie dieses Programm, es sei denn, Sie haben zusammen mit Ihrer Sibelius-Kopie PhotoScore Ultimate gekauft; in diesem Fall sollten Sie die Software von der separaten Disk installieren.

Install AudioScore Lite: Notentranskriptions-Software, die Ihnen bei der Transkription von auf einem akustischen Instrument in ein Mikrofon gespielten Noten oder sogar von einfachen CD-Tracks hilft, damit Sie diese in Sibelius weiterbearbeiten knnen. Wenn Sie Sibelius zum ersten Mal installieren, luft es 30 Tage lang im voll funktionsfhigen Testmodus. Sie knnen Ihre Software whrend oder nach der Testperiode jederzeit akti-vieren. Wenn die Testdauer abgelaufen ist, knnen Sie keine Partituren mehr speichern, bis Sie die Software aktiviert haben.

Die Aktivierung geht schnell und einfach und kann entweder direkt ber die Internetver-bindung des Computers, auf dem Sibelius installiert ist, oder indirekt ber einen Webbrowser auf einem anderen Computer vorgenommen werden.

Wie Sibelius aktiviert wirdJedes Mal, wenn Sie Sibelius ausfhren, werden Sie daran erinnert, wie viele Testtage Sie noch brig haben, und erhalten die Gelegenheit, die Software zu aktivieren. Dazu bentigen Sie die System-ID (11Zeichen) und die Aktivierungs-ID (4Gruppen, bestehend aus je vier Buchstaben und Ziffern). Wo Sie System-ID und Aktivierungs-ID finden, erfahren Sie unter Bevor Sie installieren (Seite 45).

Um die Aktivierung von einem Computer auf einen anderen zu bertragen wenn Sie beispielsweise ein neues Notebook gekauft haben und die Aktivierung von Ihrem alten auf das neue Notebook transferieren mchten, sollten Sie Ihre Sibelius-Kopie auf Ihrem alten Computer deaktivieren und somit unseren Servern mitteilen, dass Sibelius auf diesem Gert nicht mehr in Gebrauch ist (wodurch eine Ihrer Aktivierungen frei wird), und dann auf dem neuen Computer aktivieren (wodurch die frei gewordene Aktivierung wieder verwendet wird).

Whlen Sie dazu auf Ihrem alten Computer Datei Hilfe, klicken Sie dann auf der rechten Seite unter Produkt aktiviert auf Sibelius7.5 deaktivieren. Avid License Control (ALC) wird aufgerufen: Klicken Sie in der Liste der installierten Produkte auf die Schaltflche Deaktivieren fr Sibelius und folgen Sie den Anweisungen auf dem Bild-schirm. Beachten Sie, dass Sie Sibelius nur dann deaktivieren knnen, wenn der Compu-ter, auf dem es installiert ist, mit dem Internet verbunden ist.

Installieren Sie Sibelius jetzt auf Ihrem neuen Gert und aktivieren Sie es gem den oben unter Wie Sibelius aktiviert wird genannten Anweisungen.
