SHUTTER SPEED The art of motion
You now should be very familiar with the relationship between APERTURE ISO LIGHT and SHUTTER SPEEDS. Changing your shutter speed can have a dramatic effect on the image by
freezing or blurring the action.
Your job on this assignment is to experiment with both FAST and SLOW shutter speeds. If your camera does not have shutter priority, you may have to use one of the “scene” modes (sports,
night portrait).
Here are a few tips:
To INCREASE shutter speed use a HIGH Aperture (low F stop) or INCREASE ISO. Use the PANNING technique.
Predict the action and prefocus on an area where you know the action will happen Use “burst” modes to capture multiple images quickly
Experiment between Continuous Focus and Spot Focus
To DECREASE shutter speed: Use a LOW ISO, SMALL Aperture (large F stop)
USE A TRIPOD or something to steady the camera.
Remember, the rule of thumb is to choose a shutter speed equal to or faster than the focal length of the lens.

Take 2030 images you WILL have to practice and you WILL have “failures” but PIXELS are free!
SUBMIT:
2 slow shutter (long exposure) images 2 fast action shots with a fast shutter speed that freeze the action
2 shots that use the “panning” effect

YOU MUST share with us the shutter speed, APERTURE and ISO you used. YOU ALSO MUST explain what effect you were looking for and how you PLANNED and set up the shot.
