SHSP INTERSECTION EMPHASIS AREA

Emphasis Area Definition The term intersection crash is defined as

a crash which occurs just before, just after or inside the limits where two or more highways join or cross.

Emphasis Area Goals

To reduce the number of annual roadway intersection fatalities by 10 per year by December 31, 2014

To reduce the number of annual roadway intersection crashes involving incapacitating injuries by 100 per year by December 31, 2014

Intersection Emphasis Area Objectives

To implement cost-effective countermeasures at acceptable deployment levels to achieve the planned reduction in intersection fatalities and incapacitating injury crashes

To advance new strategies and concepts that support reductions in intersection fatalities and incapacitating injuries
