Offertory Giving
Giving on a regular basis to our
Sunday collection or electronically

enables the Shrine to better manage
current expenses and more
importantly, be able to prepare a
realistic budget for the next year.
Fill the Pantry! At Thanksgiving Monica's Kitchen will provide groceries to
400+ families so that they can prepare a Thanksgiving meal at
their home. We will also provide a hot Thanksgiving meal to
those desiring a place to gather and celebrate the day.
However, we always struggle to provide food for those who
are without a kitchen or home (living on the street or in a
shelter) and who are not comfortable sitting among others
inside our lower hall. These friends and neighbors often just
drop by our pantry or knock on our door looking for a small
bag of food and drink that they can take with them.
The Shrine community will be collecting canned goods and
$20 Stop & Shop gift cards.
Canned goods can be dropped off into a marked bin which
will be found in the vestibule of the Shrine.
Gift cards can be dropped off at the Shrine into one of the
secure collection bins found inside the Shrine or mailed to:

Mass Intentions
The practice of requesting a Mass to be offered for loved ones, living or deceased, is a beautiful and wonderful part of our Catholic tradition, dating back to the early Church. Please call or email the Shrine to book a Mass Intention.
Mass Intentions may also be requested online.
Sunday, November 10 11:30……………………………………...…….. Joseph Pash
As Catholics, the month of November brings us an
opportunity to pray for and cherish our loved ones who
have gone before us and are resting in the love of Jesus
Christ. At the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Voyage we
continue the tradition of praying for the repose of the
faithful departed. During the month of November, we
invite you to submit the names of your departed loved
ones either by filling out our the Mass Request Form
online and selecting the option for the Book of
Remembrance, filling out an envelope found in the
pews, or e-mailing their names to the Shrine at
[email protected], please use the subject
line of the email as Book of Remembrance. Their names
will be inscribed in the Shrine Book of Remembrance,
which will be placed in the Shrine throughout the month
of November. It is our joy to remember these souls at
Mass, during the Rosary prayed at the Shrine each
week, and at daily Eucharistic Adoration.
Young Adult Group Meeting
Monday, November 18 | 6:30PM
We are a group of young adults passionate about our
faith who wish to continue to deepen our faith through

will be a social at Hopsters following the meeting.
November Schedule Update

Shrine closing after the 12:10pm Mass:
Friday, November 29
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Fr. Bryan reminded us in his beautiful reflection in last
week’s bulletin that November is the month in which we
remember and pray for our loved ones who have gone
before us. During this month the Church also invites us
to reflect on our own finitude and reminds us that we
have the Christian duty of preparing for our passing from
this world. Benjamin Franklin once said in one of his
most famous quotes: “In this world nothing can be said
to be certain, except death and taxes.” Death is universal
and every culture has its own ways of dealing with it.
We’re naturally afraid of death and we instinctively try
to stay as far away as possible from anything that could
even remind us of it. When I was in Taiwan I remember
going to a hospital or staying at a hotel and finding out
that the 4th floor was lacking: this is because in
Mandarin Chinese “four” and “death” are pronounced in
a very similar way.
Even if we tend to avoid death in our thoughts and
actions, our faith in Jesus Christ reminds us that because
of Christ, actually Christian death has a positive mean-
ing: “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” (Phil
1:21) We can look at death as something positive
because by faith we know that the permanent cessation
of all biological functions is not the end of everything.
“To die is gain” because in death God calls all people to
himself to be reborn to a new life in Jesus’ resurrection.
In his most famous poem “The Canticle of Creatures”,
St. Francis of Assisi calls death “his sister”: “Be praised,
my Lord, through our sister Bodily Death, / from whose
embrace no living person can escape. / Woe to those who
die in mortal sin! / Happy those she finds doing Your
most holy will. / The second death can do no harm to
them”.
St. Francis reminds us that bodily death shouldn’t scare
us but we must rather prepare to die in the grace of God
and doing His will so that we won’t experience the
“second death”, which is being deprived of the
communion and love of God after the end of our earthly
journey.
