On 10.06.2016 , An Oath against employment of Child Labour was taken under the
Gandhi Tree of our college campus. The Vice Principal, NSS Programme Officers, Faculty and
the students of the College took part in the oath taking programme at 12.30 p.m.
The National Service Scheme, Department of Physical Education & Yoga jointly
organized a Demonstration and Lecture Programme, On the eve of 2nd
International Yoga
Day to the NSS, Sports and MBA students on 21.06.2016 at Vidya Seva Ratnam K. Santhanam
Auditorium. 150 students participated in the programme. The aim of the programme was to
attain the way to success in life, peace of bliss and of the secret of life itself. It will find the Way
to Peace, Truth and to the house of Immortality, eternal sunshine, infinite Joy, Knowledge and
the highest goal of life. There are mainly 21 Aasanas in yoga related to pranayam. It also
includes meditation and spiritual practice. Yoga is a science of unfolding the infinite potential of
human body and the human soul.
The NSS Volunteers and Yourth Red Cross Students are
participated in the Rally for “International Day against Drug
Abuse and Illicit trafficking” organized by Tamilnadu Police &
Red Cross Society, Trichy on 27.6.2016. The Rally flagged off
by the Trichy City Police Commissioner Mr. Sanjay Mathur, IPS.
The Rally started at St.John Vestry Higher Secondary School
went through Major Saravanan Circle and ended at Railway
Station, Trichy.
On 22.07.2016, Trichy Obstetric and Gynaecological Society and
FOGSI Endometriosis Committee organized an Awareness
Programme on “3K RUN”. The run started at GVN Hospital,
Mambalasalai and ended at IMA Hall, Trichy. 100 Volunteers
participated in the programme.
On the occasion of the Breast Feeding Week, the NSS
Units conducted a Drawing and Slogan Writing Competitions to create awareness among the
NSS Volunteers, on 06.08.2016. 50 Volunteers participated in the programme.

Competitions were conducted for the NSS Volunteers so as to select the best Volunteers

The Department of Hospital Administration, Youth Red Cross, Rotaract Club and
National Service Scheme jointly organized an Awareness Programme on “Organ Donation”
(On the eve of Organ Donation Day 12.8.2016) on 11.8.2016. The Chief Guest was Dr.Senthil
Kumar Nallusamy, Chief Cardiologist, RANA Hospital and Apollo Hospital, Trichy. In his
powerpoint presentation he gave an elaborate account of what is organ donation, who are the
ones who can donate what are the organs that can be donated the different types of organ
donation and the importance of it in the present day.
DINAMALAR – 12.8.2016
“Swachhta Pakwara” was observed by theNSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College,
Trichy from 16th -31
st August 2016. On 17.08.2016 and 18.08.2016 the NSS Units organized a
Campus Cleaning programme. The volunteers took the initiative and involved themselves
enthusiastically in cleaning Campus, Library, Laboratory and Garden etc.
200 volunteers participated in the campus cleaning and took the “Swachhta Pledge” under the
Gandhi Tree in the college campus along with the Vice Principal Ms.M.Rema and the NSS
Programme Officers.

Srirangam, Trichy on 17.8.2016.
On 19.08.2016 NSS Volunteers participated in the “World Humanitarian Day” celebrations
jointly organized by TOSS and NSS unit of Bharathidasan University held at Jamal Mohamed
College, Trichy. The followers were the Prize winners of the competition, The Unit also won the
OVERALL RUNNERUP SHIELD.

On 22.08.2016 the NSS units and Municipality jointly
organized the Dengue Fever Awareness Programme in our
college campus (MCA Seminar Hall) Mr.Nallusamy sanitary
Inspector (Srirangam Zone) were the resource person of the
day. The medical officers spoke to the volunteers and told
them how to carry out this awareness programme dicing their
visit to different areas. 150 volunteers and 5 NSS programme
officers took part in the programme.
In accordance with the celebration of Freedom
Fortnight all over the country from 9th
August 2016 to 23rd
August 2016, NSS Units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College,
Trichy organized a mass singing of the National Anthem at
11.00a.m on 23.8.2016 in the College Campus. 500 NSS
Volunteers and the faculty incharge participated in the
singing programme.
50 NSS Volunteers went to the Trichy Rock fort Temple to help the temple officials to
count the Hundial money on 30.08.2016.
On 03.09.2016 General Orientation programme was organized by the NSS Units for
I year Volunteers. The NSS programme officers spoke about two kinds of NSS activities,
Emblem and Motto of the NSS. The forth coming Regular activities and the Special Camp
activities were discussed and the students were thus given motivation to carry out these
activities. The Unit leaders were chosen and duties were allotted for each unit by the programme
officers.
On 24.09.2016 the NSS day celebration The NSS
programme officers & NSS Volunteers took the bledge on
menstrual hygiene. The NSS programme officers discussed
with the volunteers the importance of Sanitary Napkins, the
proper way of disposing it, Personal Hygiene and the spread
of diseases by the usage of dirty cloth material repeatedly.
On the occasion of World Sight Day St. Joseph Eye Hospital, Trichy organized an
Awareness Rally on 07.10.2016. The rally was flagged off by Mr.Senthilkumar, Superindent of
Police,Trichy. The rally started at St. Joseph Eye hospital and ended at the same place.100 NSS
Volunteers and programme officers took part in the rally.
On 07.10.2016 a special lecture programme on Personality
Development was organized by the NSS units. Mr.R.Karthikeyan,
Asst. Prof. of English, Maruthu Pandiar College, Tanjore was the
Chief Guest who interacted with the volunteers in a very good
manner.
The ENABLE (Registered under the Tamil Nadu Societies‟
Registration Act 27 of 1975) And National Service Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College
jointly organized a campaign on “GLOBAL HAND WASHING DAY” on 15.10.2016 in the
College Campus. 60 NSS Volunteers distributed pamphlets and demonstrated the need for
Hand washing to other students. They also motivated the students to spread the message among
their neighbours at home and wherever they go. Similar campaigns were also conducted for the
students of Sri Jayendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sri Sankara Matriculation High
School and Santhanam Vidhyalaya (CBSE), Tiruchirappalli on 15.10.2016 from 2.00p.m.
onwards by our NSS Officers and Volunteers.
On 26.11.2016, conducted a Oath taking
programme as a part of „Indian Constitution Day‟
celebrations. An Oath of „Structure Indian Constitution
and Duties of Citizen‟ was taken under the Gandhi Tree
of our college campus. The Vice Principal, NSS
Programme Officers and 200 NSS Volunteers took part
in the oath taking programme.

Service Scheme and PG & Research Department of
Social Work, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College,
Tiruchirappalli Jointly organized an Awareness
Programme on “HIV/AIDS Prevention among
Rural Women” (on the eve of World Aids Day) on
01.12.2016 (Wednesday) at Thiruppanjeeli,
Mannachanallur Union. Ms.R.Jesariyo Mary, RRC -
District Manager, District AIDS Prevention & Control
Unit, Collectorate, Trichy was the Chief Guest. In her
speech, she highlighted the severity of the HIV/AIDS
disease, causes like Sexual Transmission, Blood
Transfusion, Drug Abuse and Passing of Parent to Child
Infection. She explained how to practice safety
measures to prevent ourselves from HIV infection. At
the end of the session the beneficiaries clarified their
doubts. More than 70 rural Women benefited in this
Programme.
On 12.12.2016 Our NSS Units and City Corporation of Trichirappalli jointly organized
an Awareness Programme about download of Swachchta Mobile Application. More than 350
Teaching and Non – Teaching staff participated in the programme and downloaded the
Swachchta Mobile App.
On 17.12.2016 NSS Units and City Corporation of Trichirappalli jointly organized an
awareness programme on Swachchta Survexon. 1500 were Students instructed to vote for Clean
& Green City through the Swachchta Mobile App.
50 NSS Volunteers went to the Trichy Rock Fort Temple to help the temple officials to
count the Hundial Money on 29.12.2016.
The National Service Scheme and Department of Bank
Management jointly organized a Special Lecture
Programme on “Cashless Transaction” on 07.01.2017.
Mrs. K. Uma, Assistant Professor, Department of
Commerce was the Chief Guest. This Programme was
conducted to create awareness among the volunteers
about how to use plastic money and its merits and
demerits. 450 Volunteers participated in the programme,
which is very useful for the volunteers to gain more knowledge about economy and uses of
modern techniques in the Bank.
The National Service Scheme conducted a Special
Lecture Programme on “Swachh Bharath Mission
Activities” on 07.01.2017. Mr. K. Chandrasekar,
Ambassador of Swachh Bharat Mission, Tiruchirappalli
City Corporation, was the Chief Guest. Who interacted
with volunteers here to maintain the clean city and he
explained about Swatch Bharat Mission Activities. 450
Volunteers participated in the Programme.
The Fine Arts Association and National Service
Scheme of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College Jointly
organized Pongal Celebration on 10.01.2017 in the
R.V.Auditarium. The Students Celebrated with full
enthusiasm by preparing Pongal with the harvested rice.
They were traditional costumes and danced with
karagam which exhibited the culture of Tamil Nadu.
Finally Pongal was distributed to everyone.
On 25.01.2017, conducted a Oath taking programme as a part of
National Voters‟ Day Celebrations. An Oath regarding Voters‟ awareness
was taken under the Gandhi Tree of our college campus. The Vice
Principal, NSS Programme Officers and 200 NSS Volunteers took part in
the oath taking programme.

On 18.02.2017, National Service Scheme and Department of Computer Science jointly
organized a One Day Computer Training Programme on “Digital Awareness” at M.C.A.Lab.
350 NSS Volunteers participated in the programme and were trained to create their e.mail id.
On 21.02.2017, The NSS wing of Bharathidasan University, Trichy organized a one day
Work shop on “Solid Waste Management” held in the A.C. auditorium. 10 NSS Volunteers
participated in the Work Shop.
The NSS Units (5) of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College, Tiruchirappalli organized a 7 Day
Special Camp Programme from 26.02.2017 to 04.02.2017 at our adopted villages Allur, Janatha
Nagar, Indira Nagar,Thiruchendurai Mandabam and Kadiyakuruchi (Anthanallur Union).

The NSS units of SIGC and the Trichy Municipality corporation jointly organized a
dengue awareness programme on 05.04.2017 at Natharsha Pallivasal Street,Trichy. The NSS
Volunteers were grouped in five and a person from the Trichy Municipality lead them with other
person from corporation to Cary out the awareness. The volunteers went door to door advocating
some presentation measures to safe guard themselves from the attack of the dengue spreading
mosquitoes‟ things and destroyed with the help at the municipal officials in the awareness
programme.
The National Service Scheme organized 7 Day Special Camp from 26.02.2017 to
04.03.2017 at „SEVAI‟ Centre, Allur. The inaugural function was held on 26.02.2017.
Dr.S.Vidhyalakshmi, Principal delivered the Inaugural address. After the Inaugural the
Volunteers under went a training programme to prepare themselves for service as a team, so that
they learn to involve themselves in service. They were also given a short training session about
the do‟s and don‟ts in their presence at the special camp.
In the Afternoon session conducted a Special Lecture
Programme on “Aids Aswareness”. Mr.P.Subramanian, District
Awareness Advisor, Tiruchirappalli gave a talk on AIDS
Awareness and how to prevent oneself from that. There was an
interactive session to clear the doubts regarding AIDS.
The Second Day (27.02.2017) of the special camp began with the
village survey. The Volunteers went from door to door taking a
vivid survey. During the same queries relating to the survey of
new Voter ID, Aadhar Card importance were asked and recorded.
In the Afternoon session, a special lecture programme was
organized, in which Mr.S.Radhakrishnan, Professor, St.John
Ambulance, Tiruchirappalli was the speaker of the session. He
gave a special lecture about First Aid and how to prevent and
escape from accidents. He also created an awareness among the
Volunteers and told them of its importance today. There was an
interactive session to clear the doubts regarding first-Aid.
On the third day of the special camp (28.02.2017) NSS
Volunteers created an awareness about the importance of Sanitation in the forenoon session
among the village people.
In the afternoon session Ms.T.Vasuki, Head, Dept. of Hospital Administration, Shrimati
Indira Gandhi College, Trichy, gave a lecture about Menstrual Hygiene and told the Volunteers
about the use of napkins and the healthy way to discard them and Ms.N.Sherin Sophia, Head,
Dept. of Social Work, Shrimati Indira Gandhi College,Trichy,gave a lecture about Personal
Hygiene and spoke about the importance of Hygiene to create awareness among the students .
There was an interactive session in which volunteers took an active participation by putting
many questions to clear their doubts. On the same day a free Vetrnary Camp was conducted in
East Pacheri at 9.30 a.m. for the villages of Allur, Indira Nagar & Janatha Nagar.
On the fourth day of the special camp (01.03.2017) a free General
Medical Camp was conducted for the benefit of the villagers. This
was jointly organized by NSS units of Shrimati Indira Gandhi College and the Government
Health Care Centre, Anthanallur. About 150 villagers were benefited out of which 80 people
were found diabetic and 70 of them were found to be both diabetic and hypertension patients.
The duration of the camp was from 9.30 a.m to 3.30p.m.
The Afternoon session started with a programme on “Nirai Manam”. Arulnithi
Ms.S.Srividhya, Asst.Professor, World Social Seva Committee, was the speaker. She
explained the importance of Yoga in our daily life and how to keep our mind and health from
the daily life tension .
Temple cleaning and Street Cleaning was the programme in the forenoon session of the
fifth day of the special camp (02.03.2017)
At 12.30 p.m. a rally on the Awareness Health, Public Sanitation and Personal Hygiene
and Drinking water was conducted by the NSS volunteers in the adopted villages.
In the Afternoon session Ms.Janet Rajeswari Franklin was the resource person. She gave a
speech on the topic “Importance of Organic food”. She spoke about the importance of
consuming organic food and to make use of the simple natural food we get . She also cited many
examples of food adulterants in the food products we get today.
On the Sixth day of the special camp (03.03.2017) the
Volunteers created an awareness about house Gardening and
planting of saplings for the village people and again they explained
about Menstural Hygiene & Abolition of Karuvelam Trees.
In the Afternoon session Mr .K. Subramanian, District
Youth Organiser Nehru Yuvakendra, Tirchirappalli was the
resource person .He spoke on the topic “National Integration”.
He cited many examples from epics, Thirukkural, Bible etc to
make his point clear and vivid to the volunteers. He also told
that one‟s attitude to do and carryout things is more important
because the involvement to do it correctly follows next.
On the seventh day 04.03.17 of the camp, various games were conducted for the village children
in the adopted villages and prizes were distributed for the winners.
In the Valediction of the special camp started at 3.30 p.m. Ms K.Padmavathy, NSS
Programme Officer gave the welcome address followed by the Annual Report by
Ms.K.Kavitha, NSS Programme Officer. Ms.Mythili Sekar, NSS Co.ordinator, Shrimati Indira
Gandhi College, Trichy addressed the Students. She also distributed the prizes to the winners of
various competitions held during the special camp. Ms.S.Kannammal, NSS Programme Officer
gave the vote of thanks. The function came to an end with the National Anthem.
