The Great Bus Trip to Nethercutt Museum

It all started in the early morning hours at two park and ride freeway parking lots. Our transportation for the day was a large 47 passenger bus. Rath and James were the heros of the hour bringing coffee, snacks, sandwiches and desert for everyone. The bus trip was pleasant and everyone was wondering what to expect on this full day dedicated to cars. We pulled into a small restaurant just miles from the museum for a buffet lunch. Upon reaching the museum we realized that this was no small disp~ay of cars.· The new museum building houses one hundred ca rs. At 1: 30 we walked across the street and waited for a private guided tour of the grand sa-

Ion which houses thirty of the most luxurious and prized auto collections in the country. While waiting for the tour we got to see a Packard Marine engine restored to its days when it powered a PT boat in the Pacific. Besides autos, the museum houses figurines, hood ornaments, musical watches, clocks, and other valuable memorabilia. The tour concluded with one of the most unusual and unique collections of mechanical musical orchestras from Europe. The final attraction was several performances of mu.sic frC?m a five thousand pipe organ - -built into the outer walls of the museum top floor. For those that went on this trip it was an experience we shall not

soon forget. Than ks

Cooley Museum Donates 4 Packards James for a great tour.

Mr. Jim Cooley, auto historian and longtime collector of vintage autos and memorabilia has donated four Packard cars to the P.1. San Diego Region club. The cars have been exposed to the elements and surely need a long period of restoration. The cars have been stored in EI Centro, Ca. fo!" the fast several years and are being picked up in the next few weeks. The club executive committee will explore options on how best the club can benefit by this surprising donation.

Our many thanks go out to the kindness and contribution that Mr. Cooley has made to our club.

President's Message As we enter the fifth month

of 2002, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your support during my term. We have worked hard and I really appreciate those members who have stepped forward and given their time and talents to help run this organization. This club could not function without you.

I believe the basic function of this club is to preserve the car hobby and allow people who enjoy the Packard automobile to get together, share ideas and have fun. We have tried

to do this with our meetings and tours so far this year. Our recent trip to the Nethercutt Museum for example, was successful in that those of us who did attend had a fantastic time. We will continue to plan activities that will enable us to pursue our interests.

During the summer we will hold our monthly meetings in conjunction with one of the several "cruise nights" around the county. Hopefully this will allow more members to take advantage

Club Correspondance

of our meetings. Also in an effort to help communicate events at a lower ost to the dub, we would like to notify members through e-mail. If you have a computer please give us your e-mail address. We will

not use this information for any other purpose. So, don't worry, we are not trying to raise money by selling e-mail addresses. Please forward your address to me at [email protected] 12.ca.us, or

Steve Griger at [email protected].

Steve,

Thanx for the messages. A

good way to communicate with dub members. Not only

did we renew our membership in S.D. Region, but we

bought another Packard, as well. As you knew, we were "between" Packards for about three years. I bought another (our 3rd.) '472106, and I am very delighted with it.

I bought this one from Bob Brelsford, who bought it from the estate of Bill Davies in Feb. '98. Bill Davies owned it from' 68 to '98. It

is a car that I know very well. It is Vermont green tu-tone with Vanderbilt grey . Terry Knapp has one just like it. I drove it home to Prescott last Thur. from Palm Springs.

I will bring it back in May and plan to attend some events with it, including the Fallbrook show Memorial

Day week-end. Hope there wil be Packards present, & we'll all park together.

Email Update

If you have not received an email from the club this month then Please send me your current Email address.
