WELCOME TO SMARTMETRO & CBTC WORLD CONGRESS 2015

Global Transport Forum welcomes you to Copenhagen for the 6th annual SmartMetro and CBTC World Congress. With over 300 delegates joining us from Asia, South America, North America, the Middle East and across Europe, I am thoroughly looking forward to three days of lively interaction, best practice sharing and debate that this specialist platform allows for.

With increasing populations and growing passenger demands in an increasingly urbanised world, metros and urban rail systems are under more pressure than ever to offer a reliable, comfortable and high capacity service to the passenger. With rapidly evolving technology, operators have more opportunity than ever to exploit the digital revolution to create the reliable, connected and competitive networks integral to modern, growing cities. Throughout the globe, CBTC remains at the heart of integrated, smarter and cost-effective network development.

The SmartMetro showcase has evolved in 2015 to meet these changing needs. With global CEO keynotes, streamed content, interactive roundtables and workshops we look forward to delivering an informative and valuable conference for you and your industry peers.

We would like to extend a massive thank you to all our supporters, particularly Metroselskabet and Banedanmark who have helped set up two great site visits. I would also like to extend a big thanks to our sponsors and our leading advisory board, who have all helped us to create a specialist and unique meeting place for industry professionals to help you overcome the specific challenges you are facing in your deployments, operations and future metro planning.

All necessary information can be found in this booklet but if you require any additional help, Global Transport Forum staff will be on hand throughout the event to offer any assistance you may require.

We also welcome any feedback before, during or after the event.

Sincerely,

Emma Bird SmartMetro Producer

SMART TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATIONMany new technologies are now available for metros and urban railways but operators must determine what technology they need and how to best utilise it. Effective technology integration can reduce cost, improve efficiency and create a better customer service. How can technology be integrated without impacting mission critical services. What technology is required? Can operators have a single vital and non vital network? This session looks at: • Defining what technology is necessary on your network• Integration to reduce costs and improve efficiency• One integrated vital and non vital network?

Moderator: Nabil Ghaly, President, Rail Transport Engineering (RTE)

SMART SIGNALLING AND TECHNOLOGYThe primary concern of any passenger rail network remains the safety and security of passengers. Key to this is having a signalling system (CBTC) that is reliable, safe, but also, being utilised to minimise headway and increase reliability and efficiency on the network. What can be done to ensure the safety and reliability of the system? Is a fallback necessary or will the system operate better without one? Finally, with networks becoming digitised cyber security is also an important concern with the system. This session looks at: • Mission critical networks & systems• Maximising the reliability & security of CBTC• Delivering a high capacity, reliable service to meet growing needs

SMART ASSET MANAGEMENTThe railway industry has a broad and complex asset base that have typically been managed in ineffective and costly silos. IT can be better utilised to integrate this asset management and create a single source of transparent information to reduce cost and drive efficiency and extend the lifecycle of systems. This session looks at: • Extending lifecyle through more effective asset management • Predictive and preventative remote diagnostics• Reducing costs with an effective asset management strategy

Moderator: Nabil Ghaly, President, Rail Transport Engineering (RTE)

CBTC FOR RAIL AND LIGHT RAIL With increasing populations and passenger numbers, light rail and passenger rail are also increasingly seeking high capacity on the network. Utilising CBTC can help achieve this within the existing infrastructure, saving significant costs compared to building additional railway lines. When choosing an appropriate system, these needs must be considered. This session looks at: • CBTC potential for rail and light rail projects• The business case for CBTC • Delivering a high capacity, reliable service to meet growing needs Moderator: Klavs Hestbek Lund, Market and Project Director - Railways and Metro, COWI

Smart operations management: Reliability, sustainability and cost effectiveModern metros are tasked with transporting more passengers, more sustainably and at a lower cost than ever before. The fast pace of technology can provide a solution if utilised with a whole system approach. Enhanced data management, automation technology such as driverless operations and automatic coupling and energy efficiency can make this a reality. Implementing these solutions can optimise operations and ensure long term cost and energy management to reduce ongoing cost and guarantee sustainability. What can be done to ensure long term operational reliability? This session looks at:• The role of data and IT on operational performance and cost• Increasing automation with automatic coupling and driverless operations• Maximising energy efficiency

OPTIMISING PASSENGER MANAGEMENTWith the potential of CBTC to maximise capacity and reduce headway, it is a key tool in the challenge of safely transporting a soaring number of passengers from A to B. To optimise this however, CBTC must be looked at as the central part of the overall strategy not the solution in isolation. What impact can CBTC have on passenger operations in conjunction with more effective passenger management? Using evolving IT, driver management and station management in conjunction can reduce dwell times, improve reliability and maximise the system. This session looks at:• Utilising technology to manage passengers • Reducing dwell time and entry/exit• Impact of CBTC on passenger experience

Moderator: Nabil Ghaly, President, Rail Transport Engineering (RTE)

GLOBAL PROJECT CASE STUDIESEach CBTC project brings a different set of requirements and expectations. Brownfield and greenfield projects have varying complexity and operators must assess technology choices and ROI carefully for each upgrade. Business case and requirements will vary but each system must enhance capacity, improve reliability and operate successfully long term. This session looks at: • Managing CBTC projects to achieve long term success• Long term results of new technology implementation on the metro

network• Making technology decisions and maximising ROI

CLOSING AUDIENCE DEBATE: FALLBACK SYSTEMS AND RISK MANAGEMENT; ARE FALLBACK SYSTEMS NECESSARY?

The notion of a fallback safety system and its imperativeness when upgrading and installing CBTC is still widely debated and as the

technology evolves, is becoming more and more contentious. Keeping the legacy system in place may help to alleviate concerns regarding

safety and reliability but adds significantly to long term OPEX and with performance and reliability improving, is it necessary at all?

This sessions begins with a presentation on the use of fallback systems and will be followed up with an open debate including all

audience members on their necessity and need.
