Should We Consider Mendicancy, the Mendicants and the Warm-hearted Alms

Givers?

Mendicancy was never out of our league. It has taen !art as our

res!onsi"ility - - #he mendicants. Are we to eradicate their !o!ulation as

mendicants or should we ee! on "eing some"ody good of heart to give them alms?

If I were to "e a mendicant, where would I "e "egging for my life right now?

I see myself as a mendicant, !oor, hungry, lonely and unsu!!orted. I am in

the streets, a !lace where crimes, terrorisms and certainly nuisance are "red. Why

am I a mendicant? $ecause I "eg for my life? $ecause I%m too tired to "ring myself

u! and wor my mind and my whole "ody in coordination?

Can%t I "e sim!ly a non-la"elled !erson, a !roduct of !overty, greed and

senselessness?

Should I consider a mendicant and his acts of mendicancy? Should I give

them alms? what "etter can I do?

())(-*)+ which is !erha!s nown as the anti-mendicancy ordinance, coherently

su!!orted "y the &/0 as its foundation - - the anti-mendicancy law.

 1ed Ma"ilog himself wanted to get rid of these mendicants as coordinance to

what ha!!ened during the A&2C summit.

As stated in the Iloilo C'())(-*)+, mendicants are those !ersons "egging

with no nown su!!ort at all "ut are ca!a"le of woring. #hus they are su"3ected to

certain 3udgments for the reason - - why "eg when you can earn?
