WHO’S INVOLVED
In this article many people and groups are involved. They are:
•CBC
•DRDC(Defense Research and Development Canada)
•DND(Department of National Defense)
•RMC(Royal Military College of Canada)
•Campaign to Stop Killer Robots
•Heritage Foundation
•Amnesty International
WHAT IS THE MAIN ISSUE ?
The main issue is whether there should be a ban on
the use or creation of lethal autonomous weapons
systems (LAWS).LAWS, also known as “killer robots”
will be able to select, target, and engage in deadly
attacks without human intervention. This issue will be
discussed in depth at the UN conference in Geneva
on Monday April 13,2015
WHAT PERSPECTIVES ARE SHOWN ?
There are two main perspectives shown in the article.
One perspective wants to ban the killer robots
because allowing robots to kill humans means
crossing the line of morality. The robots could
malfunction and kill innocent civilians. Another
perspective thinks that the use of killer robots is great
because they don’t get mad or act in rage.
OPINION
I don't believe that there should be a ban on the creation
of these killer robots but instead, there should be a ban on
the usage of these robots. Creating fully automated robots
that can kill humans is not a bad idea. unless, you save
them for a situation massive warfare where using people
would mean in great losses. We should not use these
robots for warfare but rather, we should use them to save
people.
CONNECTION
This article relates to Canada in the Global Context. It relates because Canada will play a part in the UN conference that will decide whether killer robots will be banned or not. Right now, we don’t know what stand Canada will take on this issue but, for sure we know that Canada plays a very important role in international politics. This relates to what we will be learning in Canada in the Global Content.
QUESTIONS
• Do you think that there should be a ban on these killer
