Whats Shot Detection
It is fundamental to any kind of video analysis and video application since it enables segmentation of a video into its basic components: the shots.
ClassificationFades: a scene gradually appears (fade-in) or is a scene gradually disappear (fade-out).Dissolves: A dissolve is a gradual transition from one scene to another, in which the first scene fades out and the second scene fades in.Wipe: another common scene break is a wipe, in which a line moves across the screen, with the new scene appearing behind the line.

FadesDuring a fade, images have their intensities multiplied by some value . During a fade-in, increases from 0 to 1, while during a fade-out decreases from 1 to 0.

DissolvesCombination of fade-in and fade-out.
Zhang et al. developed a twin-comparison technique that can detect normal camera breaks and gradual transitions. The twin-comparison technique requires the use of two difference thresholds: the threshold Tb used to detect normal camera breaks, and a second lower threshold Ts to detect the potential frames where a gradual transition may occur.
The success rate of correctly detecting gradual transition is below 16%.
Yu and Wolf proposed a shot detection technique based on wavelet transformation. their technique is based on the assumption that during fade-in, fade-out, and dissolve, the high frequency component of the image is reduced.
