Shot Accuracy
By: Vijay Policherla
What is Correct
• The ball should be about four feet above the rim
• One foot above the backboard
• Practicing shooting for hours can make a person worse not even better
• Practicing a wrong form can make you use to it and unable to change the wrong form
What to do
• Make sure you only use one hand in your shot.
• Don’t convert back to your old shot if the new shot feels uncomfortable
• If you want to practice your shot make sure you are practicing it the right way
Why the amount of arc is Correct
• If the ball is thrown higher up in the air it has a bigger diameter of the rim and has a bigger chance of falling in.
• With a flat arc the rim is about 9 inch. In diameter and if there is arc it is 13 inch. In diameter
• When it is a flat arc it has about 30 degree angle to the basket and the correct arc is 45-55 degree angle.
How to get the proper Arc
• From the set point when releasing the ball the shooting elbow should elevate.
• The elbow should at least be above your eye to let you know how high to raise your elbow.
• In order to get that perfect 45-55 degree angle you should use your legs in the shot to get more power and be able to raise the ball high.
Interview with Connor Fannon• 3-point marksman, Connor Fannon interview: • Q: Do you prefer arc in your jump shot? Why?
A: “Yes, not to much though because I think it is more efficient and looks better going in.
• Q: Has your jump shot always had arc?A: “No, when I was little my jump shot was terrible. But I added some arc and now I drain threes”
• Q: So you believe a arced shot is way more accurate than a flat? Why?A: “ Maybe not as accurate, but it is more effective because in a flat arced shot there is way more of a chance that it will rim out. And if you have arc it has a better chance of going straight in.”
Interview with Rohan Policherla
• Experienced Jump shooter, Rohan Policherla interview: • Q: Do you prefer arc in your jump shot? Why?
A: “Yes, because I think that arc is something that you need to make your jump shot consistent.
• Q: Has your jump shot always had arc?A: “No, when I was younger and didn’t realize that it was needed my jump shot didn’t have much arc.
• Q: So you believe a arced shot is way more accurate than a flat? Why?A: “Yes, I do because like I already said I changed my shot from a flat arc to a higher arc. After I made the change my shot became more accurate and consistent.
