SHOSCOMBE CHURCH SCHOOL Church Valley Schools Federation 15 th November 2016 Dear Mums, Dads and Carers, Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Over the last few weeks we have had a few changes on site. Thank you to Mrs Berry for stepping in to teach Y1 and 2 in Mr Steven’s absence. Camerton Church School have appreciated Mr Steven’s flexibility and approachability. Thank you to you as parents and carers for showing Mrs Berry the Shoscombe welcome. Our Christian value for this term is “Awe and Wonder”. We will be reflecting on the amazing world in which we live. Autumn is a splendid season to marvel at the glory of creation with its changing colours. It was lovely to welcome a good number of visitors to school last week during our open day. Thank you to all the staff for showcasing the school so well and the children for giving such a super guided tour. There have been several comments from parents and local community members about how much they enjoyed the experience in school. I am sure it will reflect well when we receive applications in the Spring. This is a very busy term with all the preparations for Christmas nativity and celebrations. We will keep you informed of everything that is planned as the weeks progress. Remembrance.

    Sophie Hampton

    Year 1 and Year 2

Year 1 and 2 have thoroughly enjoyed having Mrs

    Berry so far this term.

  • As part of our Celebrations topic, they had a lot of fun making sweets to celebrate Diwali (as did the

staff clearing up!). It was a real ‘hands on’ experience.

    Nia Singleton

    Year 3 and 4

We have had a very busy start to term two in Kingfisher Class. We have been preparing for our play rehearsals by acting out different voices and

    creating characters.

    .

We are about to begin writing a play script.

During open day, we made some delicious pizzas. We had a wonderful morning singing our baker song and then adding the toppings to our pizza.

We learnt how important it is to use the correct amount of yeast to ensure the dough rises, as when too little yeast was added, the dough didn’t rise and

therefore, we could not use it!

We had great fun exploring our new Science topic of Electricity. We looked inside plugs, had a go on a buzz wire, programmed Beebots and created electric circuits to make a light bulb light up.

Continuing with our topic of Stone Age to Iron Age, we have been learning how to make our own

Bronze Age tools following the traditions people would have used in Bronze Age, but instead using

    chocolate!

15th November 2016 Dear Mums, Dads and Carers,

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement.

Bronze Age tools following the traditions people would have used in Bronze Age, but instead using

    chocolate!
