Experience York’s St Nicholas Fair, the city’s annual festive market. This year’s event has an
extended run, new locations and even more magical market stalls to enjoy.
There’s late night shopping until 8pm every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from the Festive First Night on
17 November
Celebrate an independent Christmas at the Small Business Christmas Market, where you’ll find six chalets full of locally-
handcrafted gifts and enjoy a warming bite to eat.
1. The Judge’s Lodging
Kids will love visiting King’s Square this Christmas. The square will be full of fun family festivities and little ones
can twist and turn down the helter-skelter.

You’ll find artistic gift inspiration at the Made in Yorkshire Festive Fayre between 24 Nov and 18 Dec. This month long
event offers designer and exclusive gifts.

There’s 70 stalls offering varied and unique gifts and you’ll also find Santa in his snug wooden grotto from the
3 Dec. Don’t miss the new Food Court offering truly festive eats, open till 8 Thursday to Saturday.

Find tasty treats and quirky crafts in the range of traditional stalls at St Sampson’s Square. Shop amidst the aromas of
quality local sausages and mulled cider.

Browse the Scandinavian-style stalls, including Visit York Information Centre’s gift chalet, for crafts, homemade jewellery, locally made gin and so much
more. There’s hot chestnuts and handmade fudge to fuel your shopping and once you’ve bought your gifts you can head to Thor’s Tipi to warm up with a
mulled wine by the fire.

Get perfect present ideas at Coppergate, where you’ll find everything from fashion to vintage teddy bears. Plus, the
brand new Primark opening in December.

Experience York’s ‘living advent calendar’ as 25 locations in the city light up their windows
with dazzling decorative displays. Each day leading up to Christmas will see a different
window decorated in a unique way. Start your countdown at Visit York’s Information Centre - the first window to light up on 1 December, and
pop in for locally produced crafts and gifts.
Don’t miss The Ice Trail during the weekend of 10 and 11 December. See if you can find all 35 frosty
figures lining the streets of York. Look for the Elf, see a sparkling Marilyn Monroe and find a Frozen Olaf.
Be sure to visit the new Shambles Market food court where you can taste a variety of festive flavours and
relax on comfortable covered seating. Minster FM are hosting the Shambles Market Christmas Party on the 17 and 18 December. The market will be filled with live music, balloons, a fun trail and fantastic freebie
give-aways. Enjoy festive fanfare on Brass Band Weekend between 19 and 20 November and sing
hosanna during Choirs Weekend between 26 and 27 November. Make your little ones’ Christmas magical
at the Family Weekend on the 3 and 4 December when Santa arrives at his grotto in Shambles Market.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and the York Christmas Festival is back bigger than ever to transform the city into a winter wonderland
from 17 November right up to 23 December. St Nicholas Fair lines the streets with snug
wooden chalets and twinkling lights so you can tick off your gift list with unique gifts as the
scent of roasted chestnuts fills the air.
You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to Christmas shopping in York, with
markets, boutiques and quirky shops all selling unique gifts. Explore a little
further to find specialist streets for that perfect present. Discover vintage clothing
boutiques and delicatessens down Fossgate - a favourite street for locals, and step inside The Hairy Fig to find
chutneys and cheese. Wander around the characterful shops of Goodramgate
and browse crafty gifts and festive themed foods on Gillygate, where you
can personalise a foodie hamper at Love Cheese. You’ll find art galleries galore
along Micklegate and inspiring interiors in the quirky homeware shops Bootham.
Pop in to the Visit York Information Centre and the chalet in
Parliament Street for your festive fix of locally sourced gifts and produce.
Don’t forget to pick up a souvenir mug which you can fill with warming mulled
wine at the St Nicholas Fair.
